Its true BUT Dont Panic. The thing is its used only in the new personal entertainment systems you see on new long distance flights which show movies on demand and have interactive games. Its has nothing to do with the navigational/operational software of the plane. In fact all planes have two totally different designed systems of ALL crital systems and if the systems disagree, the computer just trasfers control over to the pilot (it hasn't happened on any commercial flight as far as I know).
The point is no one is dumb enough to use Windows (or any other general purpose OS) on critcal systems (or at least I hope so)
While Windows 2000 is adequate for my home computer to surf the web and read email (after proper precautions are taken) it is absolutely NOT adequate for flying an airplane. I am not worried about worms and viruses infected an airplane running Windows 2000 (and I'm not sure why it was mentioned in the article as it really isn't related) but I am worried about the stability of the OS and the implications it may have.
What the article forgot to mention was where in the plane Win 2000 was used. The thing is its used only in the new personal entertainment systems you see on new long distance flights which show movies on demand and have interactive games. Civilization is my favorite strategy game and I still like to play Civ 3 fo rlong periods of time. My wishlist for Civ 4:
1)Good multiplayer
2)More diplomacy and humor
Ican't just think of any other way they could improve an already fantastic game. (apart from of course putting in super fancy graphice so that I will have to skip food for a month and get a new graphics card)
You really want another midless, extra violent, bloody game created just to show of a really good graphics engine so that they earn money licensing the engine ??
BTW if its getting released lemme know where I can preoder it
Well its been going on for a long long time on the Sun and also a number of times on dear old earth. Maybe you live in some sort of a blackhole and due to the time-space-computers warp and hence cant see the fusio.
My palm lasts for ever and so does my laptop though the laptop is more fun, but neither requires batteries, the mail order did not have a battery operated auto model... ooops you meant computers
Of course releasing Duke Nukem is just too difficult to be listed.
And so is using M$ Windows for an entire week without burning, smashing or inflicting permanent damge on your computer (without using Cygwin of course). Obviously the last challenge is even more ridiculous, I mean yeah its not going to crash for an entire week (I believe in Santa too)
try out onesuite which the article mentions. I use it all the time and it does not have an expiration (or maybe it expires after a really long time.. a year or so)
Have you been inside of a Walmart? The majority of their products ARE made in 3rd world countries. The largest is Indonesia and China. Its getting harder and harder to find anything Made in the USA.
Well that applies to most shops now. I did some shopping from Gap and every single item was made outside the USA
Hi
I am Prince Okabaoakauu of of the microbial strain found on Asteroid Mn4. We control the motion of our asteroid and can divert it safely if the earthlings wish so. However we are not sure if the earthlings(a.k.a. you) want a collision or not. Hence to help us decide , please forward this mail to 12 people within 1 hour of receiving the mail if you do not want a collision. You will also get a free mobile phone and 2 Ipods. If you do NOT immediately forward this email we will assume that you want the collision.
Thanks
I JUST RECVD THIS MAIL, PLS FWD IT TO ALL UR FRIENDS
If u are used to vi and need to use a windoze machine, u have to try out the vim port for windows ( www.vim.org)... too lazy to make it a clicky link. Its free , open source and clean ( and its not emacs )
Well not to start a flame war but if u did not know it KDE too has a systemwide setting of 'what to do if a link is clicked on' and it works perfectly on my Suse machine with TB and FF . And how can one 'barely' have a setting, is it like it uses the set application only 10% of the time .
Why is this flamebait/troll ?? Ok its offtopic but seems to be funny to me esp In order to enjoy a smooth running reliable and lightning fast operating system which will run on anything from the original 80186 CPU to the newly released Pentium II processor, we recommend that you use Microsoft Windows Millenium Edition (TM). To obtain this software please visit www.microsoft.com
Thats really funny. Next time I start my own company (not that I have done it many times before) I am going to beg u (I might have payed u but since its a startup I wont have too much money , besides if u pay people for stuff like this they come up with stuff like "Where do you want to go today") for a punch line like that.
Apple survives on getting people to pay very high prices for cool looking products. Once Apple gets people buying iPods, it would only make sense that those same sheeps would also start buying overpriced but pretty Macs. Sure it's flamebait, sure it's troll
And it's also mis-spelt u either meant sheep or ships , I guess. And u could appply the overpriced argument to iPods too, and iPod is more expensive than other similar capacity players. So its not like Apple is giving out iPods free to tempt PC users to switch (though that would be cool). I myself have started liking macs after I bought my iPod (though I havn't bought one yet), I think u start appreciating the effort Apple puts in their UI design once u use any of their products.
Without question Pixar can do fine on their own without Disney's help distributing. The real question is, can Disney survive without Pixar? As my magic-8 ball says, "Outlook not so good."
I agree use Thunderbird (...well I fell for ur bait) . But dont be too sure abt Disney's Doom, look at M$ for example, money is a huge factor and Disney does have loads of it.
I have a 'e' icon and internet explorer on my Debian desktop. \ducks and runs for cover\ Well I couldnt help it, I had to install Office XP so I bought crossover office ( rebooting every time I need to use powerpoint is irritating.. and before u start abt Openoffffice.. I dont like Powerpoint, i have to use it for some presentations and I need some equations so I use TexPoint which lets me use Latex in powerpoint). Anyway so Office Xp auto installs IE and an IE icon on my KDE desktop looked so funny that I decided to keep the icon.
Lucky for me I have the IE icon, now that it has been proved (by the MS spokesperson) that IE is more secure

Phew, at least we got those out of the way already. Now, let's get some new clichés!
:)
'new clichés!' eh ??

I guess u are joking but anyway, for the un initiated its 20% off the half price , not bad eh ??
How long do we have to wait for this

Yeah. Thunderbird takes a bit to boot up on my computer, :)
Maybe you could try using an OS to boot your computer (or ofcourse Emacs

Quantum computers can solve NP-Complete problems in linear time using linear resources
Wow never heard of that before. It would be intersting to read , do u have any links or other stuff abt that ?

I recently got $20 to setup my friends WiFi card in her notebook.
:)
You have a female friend and u read slash dot and u have $ 20 with you !!! Come on tell me something I can believe

I proceeded to dowload firefox while i was slashdotting at work.
/.
Did u mean slashdotting(Wikipedia ) or surfing
Try out the google toolbar extension for firefox. It is pretty good.
