  1. Re:Another big difference: competition. on Doing the Math On the New MacBook · · Score: 1

I usually don't log in to post, but I haven't seen anyone point this out yet: Lenovos have high list prices, but there are ALWAYS coupons with >10% off of list price - frequently the coupons go up to 15 or even 20%. If you manage to get them at the outlet, you can often get them for even more off - 30-40%, and if you go for refurbs, the savings are even higher. While I know it's possible to get mac refurbs for under the list price, the savings on thinkpads are undeniably more plentiful.

That's one point - the other is general design. A lot of people in this thread are discussing features that only macs have. However, there are plenty of features that are matched (or exceeded) by thinkpads. For example, thinkpads also stop the hard drive automatically if acceleration is detected, and also have a spill-proof keyboard (which macs lack) as well as a significantly stronger chassis (aluminum frame INSIDE a magnesium-composite clad exterior).

Hey, things aren't always so bad. When I was in 6th grade (not terribly long ago, actually) I built an electrolysis apparatus that used two big pieces of copper pipe, a car battery, and some pool water. Not only did the teacher let me explode the hydrogen IN CLASS, but shortly after that incident they moved me up to the 7th grade science class.

I doubt, however, that such shenanigans would be allowed any more.

Keep in mind, too, that a breakthrough of this magnitude wouldn't be treated the same way by the world, either; I mean, countries like Brazil were already threatening to take away the patents for some aids medications as is, in order that lower cost care could be provided.

I'm sure that the drug companies wouldn't try to sit on a possible AIDS vaccine, not only because they can make a large profit by getting it out the door, not only because there would be a huge publicity backlash against any company trying to do so, but also because a great many governments (If not the US, then certainly others) probably wouldn't respect any claimed "right" to withhold a vaccine.

It's probably due to the fact that (at least as it seems to me) very few WoW users seed their torrents; they view it as a traditional patcher, and they download the material and then don't leave the thing running. Any torrent without any seeds is sure to move slower than a "healthy" torrent with a high seed:leecher ratio.

The lessons taught don't need to be specific to technology or anything; I was always taught, for example, the whole "Don't go with adults you don't know" line of reasoning, and it just seemed natural to obscure my information from the outside world at first. Now, obviously, my information is a lot more accessible, but I have less to be afraid of.

My point, though, is that if the children learn a basic framework for what is and isn't a good idea, the parents don't have to teach them individual applications within the framework.

On the other hand, he'd have to get started RIGHT NOW in order to be an effective candidate at all. I can't exactly see him getting the democratic or republican nod at this point, and he won't win as an independent.
