...The IT worker glut will be increased even more by improved automation of information system maintenance, standardization of software, and non-IT specialists who are increasingly sophisticated with information technology.
Industry changes all the time like this. Technological improvements and competition cause displacement. This is why there are hardly any steel workers in the USA. This is why there are no welders on the auto assembly line as they have all been replaced by robotic automation. White collar computer related positions are not going to be immune from this. You must adapt to this reality.
There can be nothing to stop this devastating trend, due to the following:
1) Corrupt USA politicians
2) USA IT workers are not willing to organize
3) Influential corporations have effectively distorted the issues
I agree that these things can affect how fast the industry changes, but organizing IT workers (i.e. unionize) will cause an even faster exodus of jobs.
Given that if this thing blows it could do some serious damage to the country, maybe we should start drilling some holes to release some of the pressure. The cheap geothermal energy would be a bonus.
Environmentalists group A won't let you drill.
Environmentalists group B won't let you string power lines from the geothermal plant.
They'll keep it tied up in court until North America is buried 10m deep in ash.
"Look, this is a gift. If I must purchase a service plan before walking out with this product, then I will leave it. Now, can I have this product without a service plan or not?"
When I worked retail (Montgomery Wards) way back when, customers tried this line and we would always respond that the plan is transferable.
Now when I visit these stores my response to the sales person is "No thanks, I used to work retail and had to sell those plans". That tends to end the sales push.
They bought it to print their own currency. By the time it's up an running, the US dollar will be worthless due to inflation. Prudent business decision I must say:-)
Then in the 80's as the KGB was attempting to steal technology, the CIA slipped them some "modified" hardware and software. Much hilarity ensued. Once the Soviets got wise, they couldn't trust the reliability of their own weapons.
To be more specific, I find it illogical to assume that the NSA would require you to provide them with the keys and at the same time let you talk about it.
Perhaps the product is not classified but falls under some sort of export control. Forking over the key is a requirement prior to selling the product outside the USA.
One bit of good news out of this massive breach is that, according to Heartland's CFO, "The nature of the [breach] is such that card-not-present transactions are actually quite difficult for the bad guys to do because one piece of information we know they did not get was an address." Heartland just put up a press release on the breach.
You could have donated to the Obama campaign using a credit card without a correct address. Google "obama AVS".
Wait till the Dems have full control of Executive and Legislative Branches to bring back the good old Fairness Doctrine. It'll be applied to the the web as well as TV/Radio.
Looking at this article: http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/CA6573406.html, Obama is on the record against the Fairness Doctrine. If he's elected and changes his mind, he'll have a Democratic House and Senate more than happy to bring it back.
Agree with everything you said. More to the point of the original post, I've used VxWorks to boot up a relatively slow PPC system in about 200 milliseconds. That includes memory, uart, pingable network, and various other device initializations.
would give the much-derided ISS a stab at doing some decent science for a change.
"For a change"?!?! Where the hell are you getting your informations about the science done on the ISS? On Fox News? Where the hell are you getting your information about science reporting on Fox News? The Daily Kos?
Fox reports science news just as well as other MSM outlets.

The more "responsibility" the government takes, the less the parents will take...
And that's what the current regime is counting on.
Anyone???
Someone else has been "Schooled". Ouch.
In my (professional) estimation Seth McFarlane is the single most important writer in the English language since the time Shakespeare...
Is that you Seth?
...I mean Alcatel.
These grads will need C and Assembly approximately never.
Those of us who work on embedded systems beg to differ.

, you know, knives?
Just cut to the quick. Tax atoms.
If you dig deeper maybe you'd find that the manufacturers lobbied for this law.

... Essentially, he regrets that we misunderstood the intent of his motion, and that he should have worded the motion more carefully ...
Sounds like something John Kerry would say.

If they attach it to my car without my permission, doesn't it become MINE to do whatever I want with?
Good question! And if it becomes yours then wouldn't they need a warrant to collect it?
Lets not forget Exxon paid out $32 billion in TAXES last quarter to countries all over the world on those 'unfair' earnings.

...it'll be far less than 10k years before we're digging the stuff up to run in breeder reactors.
Either that or it will be inexpensive enough to just hurl the waste into the sun.
You must have kittens...
No, he's an acquaintance of Jesse Jackson.
Fox reports science news just as well as other MSM outlets.
Your both wrong. The term was first used circa A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
Yes you are the only one.
