sucks.
It sounds like the guy hated the book. All his points show aspects he doesn't like, and then relieves it with fun aspects of another Stephenson book. I get the impression that he is a fan of Stephenson because he likes some of his other books, and Stephenson has become trendy.
But...thanks for the review anyway, I'm happy to hear about this book.
Its been a while since I was in school,
but back in my day...
They had the BIOS set to load from cd, and the BIOS was password protected even!
...fifteen miles barefoot... uphill both ways...
I've got a great business idea...
Make wireless access points in cars. Sell them as internet radio, and sell access to the grid. In big cities, the grid could be huge!
From your home, you could have access to "the Auto Grid." Of course, this would probably have to be some sort of broadcast system, so bandwidth limitations might be an issue. But you could slap some smartness into it, and have a useable system I'm sure.
I think there was an article on slashdot before about motorcycles using this concept in a 3rd world country, but I couldn't find it.
Mod this guy up!!
This is exactly the right kind of thing the original poster and I should do. Now mod me down for being too damn lazy to actually do it.
This information was given to me when I was in school, and what did I do? I took the first job that I could lazily get...a $24k programming job.
The job is awesome, but I'm sure if I had the ambition, I can do a lot better.
(Why do today, what you can easily get done tommorow.)
Do people actually think these are EASIER to use than the traditional 2D/command line interfaces? Or is it just coolness?
If I am one of the ppl you speak of, then yes. It is just coolness that attracts me. The only way it would be easier is to also have a 3D input device, and a 3D output device.

If you could somehow sandbox an instance of this app, sectioning off power from the CPU and making the app think thats all the CPU its going to get out of one CPU hour, you could have maybe 5-10 instances all cranking out these CPU hours.
Do you think I might get a reasonable dollar for selling my soul to the devil? I have two computers already, maybe getting a third.

A lot of people are mentioning DYNDNS and other free dns servers(no-ip.com is my favorite).
Most if not all of these use the berkeley dns servers, which is free and updates instantly.
but because these Servers are so available and widley used, perhaps a few other reasons, they are prone to DDoS attacks.
I've used these for years, and I've only noticed a few times when the service wasn't working. But on a corporate scale, it's probably better to get the garuantee from a host that costs money.
no, you have to show him your mams!
The Downloads window still has my downloads in it from the previous version.
...weird!
Now I have to redo ALL my work!!
Have you ever risked a hand injury doing the dirty by yourself?
Scary.
wouldn't a slash back be /..(slashdotdot)?
I'm not a zealot
Any starcraft players think of these zealots running around with swords for hands, threatening you to use their OS?
those guys are really scary, unless your a mutalisk!

I think if this comment came once a day, it still wouldn't have as many headlines as SCO!
"you there, obey the fist!"
"I was the turkey. the whole time! it was meeee!!"
