  1. more likely on Cringely Posits Adobe's Purchase by Apple · · Score: 1

More likely I could see Apple, buying a large portion of Adobe Stock. enough to be a controlling interest and have someone on the board perhaps, but not a total take over/merger.

Although if Apple did buy the whole package it would be interesting.

  2. Neither a "shoker" nor a "big deal" on No EFI Support for Vista · · Score: 1

This is neither a "shocker" nor a "big deal" to me.

All I really want is a decent Virtual PC any-ways
With Virtual PC running even 70% of native speed I'd be very excited, plus everyone wins.

    1) I get the speeds I want for the stuff I need to run in windows.
(sorry games aren't a high priority, and most games I like would run fine at 70% of the
current mac lineup with some extra ram)

    2) Microsoft still gets a Windows sale from me, as well as a sale of Virtual PC.
I think this is the kicker, Microsoft knows that mac users who want windows will be paying for 2 products instead of one, and they want to milk that for what it's worth.

    3) I don't have to worry about windows or windows apps monkeying around with my hard drive since it will be kept in it's only virtual hard drive file as VPC has been doing in the past. I don't want a Windows virus, malware, etc. or even non-destructive apps to have access to the stuff "I really care about".

    5) I don't want to reboot just to do the tasks I need in windows anyway.

    4) I buy a mac for the "mac package" not because it will or won't boot/run windows, so I'm fine with Windows being a "second rate citizen" by just running in emulation.

that and I agree with the poster that said it depends some on when PS3 gets released.

  4. What's a new-comer to consoles to do ? on PlayStation 3 May Play Too Much · · Score: 1

This may seem off topic but I feel it's very relevant.
(keep in mind the only console I own is an original grey box Nintendo "NES")

I've heard debates as to if it is worth it for Sony to include a Blue-Ray disk drive or not.
namely questioning the cost effectiveness and such.

One question I had when I heard that the xbox 360 was only including a regular DVD drive and not a HD-DVD or Blue-Ray drive is this:
"Next Gen Games" are higher quality (at least capable of being higher quality graphically speaking) because of CPU/GPU/memory/etc... upgrades. But if the storage medium is the same size how do they pack higher quality textures, more data onto the disk without sacrificing actual game content. (maybe a game that should have been 8 levels is now only 4, those 4 look great but still less playable content)
Sony seems to be resolving this issue by having blue-ray drives in their PS3's

I'm not trying to start a PS is better or xbox is better debate, but as someone who might think of upgrading to a "next gen" console. what's everyone's advice?
it seems I can't find an xbox360 any-ways, so should I just save my $$ for a PS3, or is the storage size of the disks going to be relatively inconsequential and xbo360 will be "good enough" supposing I can find one before the PS3 is released.

Either way I'd be buying new games since I don't own a PSx or a xbox.
what would be the best for a family situation as well, for a system that has fun games for all of us (kids and Adults).

Can someone enlighten me why this has to be a "format war"?
here's how I see it (keep in mind I haven't done extensive searching for info on the subject)

OK so we have 2 standards, why can't we as consumers only buy machines that will play both formats (as well as "legacy" formats) then manufacturers will primarily make players that will handle both.

I don't know all of the Pro's & Con's of each format, but this would allow content creators (be it movies, games, data backup etc.) to simply look at the "features" of each format and pick which will do the bast job for the given task/goals. then when a new project comes around, decide again. on a project by project bases.
that way creators win, and the consumer wins. and joe smoe doesn't really have to care what the disc is.

I grew up in "happy valley" (moved out ASAP BTW) and I would attribute what other posters have said about Mormons having a 'limited view' to the unfortunate personal choices of those people, not that of the teachings or doctrine of their faith.

I love to travel, and meet new people, learn about new and ancient cultures. Unfortunately finances are my prohibiting factor at the moment (paying for schooling, living etc.).

But when I'm finished with school, hopefully I can find myself a nice metal-mesh carrying case (or a microwave as some have suggested) for our new RFID passports, and travel again.

  8. Re:Doesn't help Americans on US Passports To Recieve RFID Chips · · Score: 1

This isn't a flame, but rather a correction as seen from my stand point as both an American and a Mormon (although a relatively liberal one)

Yes We (at least I) learn about wars on foreign soil from family and friends that have served. as well as school (Elementary, Junior High / Middle School, High School and now College.)

Both of my grandpa's & grandma's served in WWI/WWII, Father in Vietnam and Korea
I have Friends in Afghanistan, Iraq
and other family posted throughout the world

I have also personally had the opportunity to "study abroad" to various countries in Europe and Australia.

As for the "Mormons" comment, the New Testament isn't based out of the America's
(Mormons use the King James Version of the Bible, for both Old & New Testament BTW)
The Book of Mormon (also called "The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ)
is however MOSTLY based in the Americas.

Also, since proselyting, charity and community service
is encouraged in Mormon faith (not forced, but encouraged)
MANY of Mormon youth and elderly people are sent throughout the world .
(about 30,000+ a year I believe, most of which are outside of the USA)

For a while I even when to a Church sponsored school, there we had several opportunities to meet with students from both Israel and Palestine, who were doing tours to various universities.
Also, Brigham Young University has a Israel campus for qualifying students to goto and learn from there. (I think I heard it was temporarily out of service for renovation or something though??)

Mormons are not somehow sheltered from the news of the world, nor would most of them want to be. I consistently read news publications from US publishers and international publishers
(well the RSS feeds in Safari anyway). At the school I attended, I also took such classes at Eastern European history. World Music and Culture courses, etc. etc.

I hope that clarifies some stuff, I can't speak for All Americans, or All Mormons, but there's at least some of my experience.

In other words you are privileged enough to work for us the consumers we pay for your services (content, music etc..) you give the content to us. 2) It's our right to see that you go broke by not paying for your useless "services" that you have been privileged to serv us with in the past. I'm not suggesting stealing your services, but rather lets face the facts: A) I already got loads of music that's not DRM'd and purchased legally. and what I don't have, our local public library will let me check out for free. B) Music is not a necessity, so I don't NEED to buy your music. (I'll keep paying my water bill) C) Even if I do buy the music, someone will always find a way to copy the music whether through breaking the DRM, or just running an audio cable to a line in port and recording it. so give it up. 3) Has anyone even produced a full CD worth buying in the last few years... Lets look at other options, aside from that of buying your DRM'd music: I call them the ABC's of legal free/near free music (all of which are my privilege AND right to do) A) Listen to the radio, we have enough stations to find decent music here and there B) Check music out from the local library C) Listen to the music I already own D) borrow friends/family member's CD (music) collection E) listen to my works "hold music" F) listen to the music in the elevator G) streamed music (internet) H) My imagination I) Garageband (make our own darn music) J) legal downloaded music (independent artists etc...) V) PBS broadcasts. on TV W) Social events, Dances, clubs, church activities, free amphitheater civic activities, etc... X) open my apartment window it's guaranteed someone is blaring there music loud enough for everyone to hear Y) Disney channel, you can't go 10 minutes without a music video being played. and the kids like it. I will gladly pay up for the upgrades in OSX, not to be a zealot,
but because I like to keep current technology on my desktop. Since I prefer Apple's computers & OS then I'll keep current with them; if I preferred windows then I suppose I would fork out the couple hundred bucks to upgrade when they release new OS version. It's a simple matter of preference, not a feud war for crying out loud. no one is being FORCED to upgrade in either camp. Mac users who are happy with 10.3 can stay with it, Windowz users happy with Win 2000 could stay with it. The way I see it it's that simple.
