It sucks, but this is all predictable. And I wouldn't mind a good arguement on it, but I'll be short and say that we non Americans deserve what we get since US of A is primarily an immigrant nation, its power is/was given to it by other countries -- from power to knowledge. The people the citizens of the USA seem not to mind too much, so you might as well stay home and do your best to protect your homeland.
I suspect Linus specifically likes to take no (public) stand on these things, and I don't blame him. People use his name for so many different things as it is, even though, interview after interview he states that he is just an engineer and doesn't really care. I myself care, but that's besides the point.
Well I have a Hotmail account, I just don't check it, and there seems to be no way to delete it. And you don't need a Hotmail account to have a Passport account.
I am no statistician, but I kinda assumed that the 'Total Duration" group in the Javascript Engine Speed test was a sum of the previous bars. Assuming that is true, why is the bar in that group for IE 7 so short?

While I understand your point. Democracy does not inherently mean that the best result will be the outcome. What percentage of parliament is ever near objective, and full aware of the what is as stake on both sides?
45 nuclear power stations? In the us? really? Forgetting that people are way too paranoid to let this happen, that's a lot of development for a 4 year term.
Who says they were being spent disproportionately on the bright and talented. They usually can work with the baseline education, esp. considering that they are bright and talented.

You're being a bit unfair. Of course the police *can* hold a suspect for 42 days. The fact of the matter is they can hold a suspect for as long as they want, in fact keeping them "forever" may be easier. All this bill aims to do is extend the legal date.

Not really surprised though.
Regardless if I am buying for myself or a client, or for Windows or GNU/Linux, explicit Linux support (by way of drivers) is always a +1 for me.

Well iterative solutions are almost always faster across languages.
VBScript sucks balls and Javascript is capable of getting the job done.

I am somewhat curious about the type of person that uses Firefox 3 but has a Hotmail (note not Passport) account that they actually check.
What about 9/11/2001 is legally relevant? Ie, what makes wiretapping (or whatever it is being called) okay after that date?
Money (not all the times, but most)

Should they have waited when there were no bugs?
Sorry, that's the first thing that came to mind on the question of what more could a hacker want.
What's the significant difference?
1. If you think you can get an issue speedily resolved because you paying for the software, then you obviously aren't employed in that sector.
2. Using open source does not mean that you can't buy support, its completely up to you
Mono?
In my opinion, no.
They have valid reasons to do this. I wish them luck.
Not sure why there is even a patent on this, but making a deal which protects everyone is pretty nice.
Guess no one submitted a story on it.
Thought Safari was the other best browser? BROWSER WARS!!
