it's a review for none tech people, not something i would expect to read on slashdot...
there is no clear indication of if they use software or hardware encoding. and no indication of whether they work under mythtv or MS media cneter 2005 edition.
"The laptop will automatically shut down if the battery goes below 10%, sometimes without a warning (which is actually a good thing, because users should never leave batteries drain below ~20%, as this damages all batteries in general)."
ahr, wrong...it's true that if the voltage does fall below a certain level copper would start deposit on the electrode, and the li-ion can never be recharged again, but all laptop uses Lithium-ion battery now a day, the "smart" battery tech built-in automatically takes that into consideration. So 0% doesn't not necessary mean the battery is completely empty, just mean it's near the recharging voltage limit. If i remember correctly apple actually recommends ipod users to drain the battery till the device "die" once every few months.
As for many other types of rechargeable batteries, it's actually better to discharge them completely before recharging, because of the so called "memory" effect.
trusted chips will eventually be used by software manufacturers to make sure the computer's owner does not do anything with the software which the manufacturer does not want to permit.
at least it will prevent you from running unsigned spywares.
this year is bad simply because it is a election year...that is right, I said it: presidential election is a major contributor to global warming...perhaps if we change the presidential election to once every 40 years, we could save billions in disaster prevention along!
i actually first saw this news on CNN, they had a brief interview with one of the producers this afternoon. oh and the second part of the series will be aired tomorrow on PBS at the same time...ahr they really got nothing better on PBS? Didn't have that purple dragon for a while?
With the optional Wireless LAN adapter plugged into the camera's IEEE1394/Firewire connection, photographers can work untethered as huge full-frame RAW files transfer automatically to the studio LAN in seconds.
1) ieee1394 wifi adapter is going to extremely expensive, since they are produced specifically for this device
2) it's extremely annoying to have a wifi dongle hanging on the cameras
3) wifi is extremely cheap to integrate into consumer devices.($20 for OEM) with a camera this big and expensive, why not just throw the chipsets into the camera? Well i guess this way you can always upgrade the external adapter when a new standard come out...but the camera will be outdate by then as well...
haven't look into Grantsdale processor yet, assuming it will be used in a laptop, won't it be more battery friendly to let cpu handle the wireless function instead of having another power hungry minipci wifi card? It's a sure winner if this can at least add 30 minutes to the battery life.
"Ensures better quality in the musi/tv/movie available" appears all over his agrument, but does the author realize that it's not diffcult to get dvdrip or even dvd iso for movie and tv series, lossless format music?
how could a story like this one get onto/. front page, it's nothing more a 2 axis lego printer with a an exaggerated name (there is one on the back of lego mindstorm invention retail box, and you can build one from the step by step instruction that comes with ULTIMATE BUILDERS SET (3800)) yeah, it can squeeze chocolate, but it's not like we have girlfriends anyway.
toshiba has a similar oem solution in its p15-s479 laptop with windows media center 2004. The external tuner that comes with the laptop does hardware encoding and has coax and composite input output signal via usb2. Toshiba Model No. 51109551001
all i saw in the gallery is nothing more than some wma/mp3 palyback screenshots. Where are the tv play back, wasn't that suppose to be the key feature of this device? or perhaps at least some divx/xvid riped movie? Pocketpc with intergated svga resolution and powerful 624 intel processor(powerful enough to play dvd riped move at full speed with no frame lost, confirmed on axim x30 high) will be out before holiday, as far as i am concerned, that will be my mobile media center, after all there are a lot more you can do with a pocketpc-GPS navigaion, for instance.
I also heard that console games allow doctors to practice their hands (if not brain?) So they can be more sucessful with those open heart surgeies.
What is next, doom 3 give you 20/20 vision?

you should learn to stand by...boots up in a second, and you can config it in such way that only hiber/reboot required password.

isn't that suppose to be the best/most unique feature on ipod?
i thought it's just playlists collection of music/video on the web. Does that qualify as mpoint to point?
now if they just get it to sync with xp mce 2005. oh, man, it sure would be nice to have tv shows on my ipod.
didn't he say he is gonna reform the tort laws?
you never had a gps? Try one out, it might change your life.

according to a new poll, only 50% of slashdotters mastubate.
mod me up for not posting this anonymously!
but shouldn't this article fall under windows.slashdot.org instead of linux.slashdot.org?

We can bring this thing into a commercial flight or a school as a matter of fact, I think laser pointer aren't allowed in those places
