Now some neat tessilation might be displacement based on a normal map. That would be real neat!

I don't know of many bosses that could pull off this sort of atmosphere without frustrating employees and making them quit.

I can name one: DISNEY. that is Walt Disney.

Like EA, the animators and artists working for him didn't always get the highest saleries, and by all accounts worked tirelessly on the films. But they loved it! His sessions for critique of an animation coined the term Sweatbox. I don't think anyone can argue that his micromanagement delivered in spades. The passion for the work is what set his films apart.

Of course I don't think anyone would say he didn't have fun doing it. Which is where I think a very distinct line is drawn with the current situation with EA. I do doubt how much fun the management in EA is having.

Just FYI There were TONS and TONS of models used for the sets. Giant models. Castles, rocks, villages, forests etc. Yes they were modified afterwards, but the artists had the model photography to help them out. Both sides were brilliantly done, but you can't see the waterfalls with brilliant fall folliage without seeing the giant model elf village in the mountain.

So will we have famous paintings by amazing virtual artists, robots that understands how much it hurts to lose your brother in an accident, and Wonderful virtual actors that understand all of life's problems and understand exactly what the director wants.

RIGHT. We need something far more interesting before truly "virtual actors" AI. If animating a photo realistic person is hard [and it is! almost impossibly so] then animating that person's brain would be at least an magnitude of difficulty harder. It would take every bit of that physical animation and who knows how much more.

So yes we will have our world class animators, combined with REAL actors for a while to come. Sotware improvements will come, helping modeling/texturing/animation out. And it will still be very very difficult.

YES! I was thinking of the power of the CLI while trying to explain the merits of linux to a freind. What would be IDEAL would be a user dicoverable CLI. That is one that would start with the most used commands [baised on beginning users] in a help screen as well as English explinations of them. Once a command was started to be typed [prefix] or clicked it would change to show simple meanings of [prefix]... commands. After it was entered [or space] the help screen would show the arguments and common options. All imeadiately, similar to how many search functions work. Nice big easy typesets, and other handy things would make it a tool to at least learn some of the CLI [and maybe disgarded afterwards] or use it infrequently.

I don't see why it would not be possible to 'keep' a movie for good, on demand. A larger fee simply not to have to be paid again.

Think that it would not happen, well the GP gives a wonderful argument why it would: the majority of veiwers who buy the movie for a larger fee would probably use it only slightly more than one time content. Equating to good profit. I suppose some trust is there, but no more than paying for cable for a year and assuming that they will not pull the plug.

I see the goods and services argument becoming fuzzy with downladable games etc. I think it would be incorrect to lable a cd game and the same game downloaded differently. I don't doubt with larger bandwidth streaming game content is far off. [maybe with ptp networking picking up the bandwidth]

What exactly is the promise of a Linux certified laptop ? Honest. With off and on support of WiFi, and neglible power saving I don't see any advantage. The hardware itself doesn't sound like anything special. With the use of linux on embeded systems rising, it would be great to see a more fine tuned approach to specialized 'Laptop' distros. heh!

I don't see this appealing to Joe User outa the box either, considering the hoops one would have to go through to get it completely 'functional'. Might as well install a fresh distro and make sure the hardware you buy is well supported. I know of at least a few freinds with better laptop setups, who did exactly that.

I'll admit the Gimp 2 is a bit slicker than 1.x but I would argue that the tools are still not well unified. I would argue the same could be said with Photoshop at times. I mean the graphic tools come in 4 flavors : Color/Levels Modification, Canvas/Layer Geometry[scale, crop] Modification, Filters, and Drawing/Editing Tools [Clone etc. tools]. Finally they each have a set of controls.

With a good unification/abstraction it would be real nice to have a good separation of these. Like a few other graphic Apps, a constant morphing set of controls would go with whatever modification/geometry/filter/tool. is being used.

Gimp could definitely take some hints from the 3d set of programs, where new UI's are popping up all over the place. (I have an affinity for hotkeys via wings3d, and always open controls via Cinema 4d 8)

I'd agree that Gimp should not try and be Photoshop, but something better, lighter, and more intuitive for new users!

It's very nice to have one reflect upon the other, since it highlights the differences quite well.

The 'rythm' of a typical videogame is based on a balance of difficulty and reward, kinda like a movie, but is stretched to more than just the story etc., all aspects of a good game have the rythm. And sorta like a symphony, it's a good coordination of these that make a good game. take away gameplay and it's far less than the sum of it's parts!

Pixar does story first for a reason! That's the heart of their buisness. The story of how Mario[64] unlocks doors in the castle is more of UI decison. So totally different you wonder what they were thinking!
