    gee let me take less than a second to think about it here....IT'S FREE! not to mention also the most widely use and popular one.

    am i hypocritical on this issue? i dont think so. i dont like aol(the paid service) but i do like aim for chatting to my family friends and so i use it.

    small news flash for ya too. our whole world/lifes are controlled by companies that prolly most of us hate. if you dont like it go live in a tribe because its the only way to avoid that mess......

    If he does have a bias maybe because the headline is misleading but arent they all....

    Anyhow I'm not taking sides because I don't care one way or the other. I just want to see how this scenario plays out because it may set an interesting precedent for other similiar cases...

    Artists is such a relative term.

    I mean people like Britney spears who have others write her songs for her and tell her how to dance and what promos to do and what not, now can they really be considered artists?

    In my mind artists are people who care about making their craft/art first then selling it secondary.

    So in light of this article these people have to ask themselves, do they care more about having people share in their wonderful creation or just care about the dough?

    Just food for thought...

    I do believe in God. I'm just writing to say with or without religion, ALL mankind has some biased beliefs. Just human nature. In other words, you shouldn't rule out religous biases when a scientist can hold another, more dangerous bias..... As far as mankind trying to play God, I'm not concerned because I know God will confuse mankind when He feels were close to that point. Just wait and see.....

    I don't have to worry about man playing God because I know God will intervine before we get to that critical mass point. Think I'm wrong? Cure one disease, watch another one pop up in the wings baffling mankind yet again........

    Should we really feel sympathy for these peoples? Chances are the people who have their machines hacked or stolen are zombie machines anyways and they deserve what they get :)

    Also, I would be a little more worried over other IMPORTANT stuff (i.e. passwords, cc numbers) than over a mere 50 dollar game if my machine was ever broken into.

    Yea I agree with you there. Out of the 7 machines that I know SP2 were installed on, only one machine caused me a problem. It caused me a problem because it was heavily loaded with spyware(was fixing up the machine for company purposes) and though I removed all detectable spyware, the consequences of the spyware still remained.

    One of the spyware programs changed the registry permissions so sp2 couldn't change the registry value and it complained over this. Nothing serious happenned. SP2 just undid itself and that was that.

    Since this was for a work related purpose for a computer that wasn't being used in the company, I didn't care much but for my own machine I would of definately do a clean reformat first after being infected like that.......

    your right and it is a very valid point but what about layoffs? i see it happen before. guy stays in his job though he's not happy with it because he needs to support his family and then out of no where gets laid off. while ea may not do that, it's another grey area to consider in what seems like a lose/lose situation........

    Believe it or not after hearing this its turned me off from playing ANY video games. I'm sure there are other companies out there just like them not coming to the surface yet and until i know who are reasonable to the unreasonable companies, i wont play or buy any games for awhile.

    Fine by me anyways, I need to learn to be more constructive in my time :).

    Exactly! Mangement are never the ones who deal with the consequences directly so they can care less. It's like that all over.

    I say for their punishment the judge should make them work 80+ hours 7 days a week for 3 months and let them see how they like it...

    Sometimes the best way for change is to put yourself in the other guys shoes.

    Your right but your example doesn't also apply to linux. Every new Windows upgrade and each new product MS feels the need to come out with, theycompanies need to test that too. And all those nifty little patches, big companies test them out because they need to. I'm sure we all read and saw results of what happens if you don't.

    So remember, you have to take account BOTH sides of the coin and go with the best scenario. It'll be different for every company since each has their own needs...

    Very good point. I say have these clowns somewhat caged and make them work their arses off!

    Is it harsh? Probaby. Do I mind it though? Naaaaa. I didn't read the full article but from reading the blurb, it did look like the guy was robbing people so keep that in mind too. Also, maybe it'll get the spamming community thinking twice before proceeding with their actions....

    And irregardless of what I just said, we all know he'll be out in 2 years anyways on "good behavior".

    I heard a rumor that ms can't stand the fact that cable and satelitte have a strong hold on the market so there gonna create their own entertainment service to compete with the likes of cablevision and direct tv. There also gonna create their own amusement park..MS LAND!!!!!! And then they'll be MS farms and MS whole grain cereal and MS "efficient" light bulbs, and MS thong for the mrs. Seriously when it end for M$???????

    You make an excellent point. I like to know the background, and as many other posts pointed, the type of it positions these people had. I would think a LAN administrator with a college education and experience would have more marketablility than say a "web designer" who only knows frontpage and no schooling.

    My field right now is system administration. While the jobs for it may be scarce(not sure if it is or not, haven't tested out the market), its one that'll not go away unless computer die out. I mean if your a company with alot of computing power, it just makes sense to have a few people on site to fix and administer your machines.

    Yea i liken this situaion to exactly what the cigs companies was doing. Everyone knows smoking is bad for you, it's addictive and all the health factors involved but the tabocco industry wouldnt admit it until 7 years ago.

    i buy new ones but i don't spend more than 12 bucks. granted i like alot of obscure rock so for 8 bucks at best buy, i can get a heavy metal band with a sampler cd and a bonus dvd where as say for something like britney spears i would have to spent 20+. of course supply and demand is in effect here but when your used to paying 10 bucks for brand new cd's, you don't go back to anything expensive.
