I agree with you, its a huge task. And I think more successful companies cope with it better because they can focus on one product. They dont have to worry about i.e. making the next best gaming console, or even creating their own freakin programming language.
Of course organization too is a HUGE part of the success part it sure does help if you have one project to focus on and not 100.
Naaaa, what would be the fun in that;)
The diff between cs guys and other professonsions. CS guys google knowing they cant get the girl, other professions have the savy to get the girl, use her at his free will, and all is said and done.
As an interesting tidbit, I live on Long Island, just an hour and half train ride to the city. This past summer I was at the statue. Now they wouldnt let you inside the statue but you could get on the island.
Even then, the security was insane and I felt if not as good, a little better than airport security. They checked/done everything except for stripping you naked. And when you get off the boat, there was an armed guard greeting you along with helicopters flying over head.
With all that security, I couldn't figure out why they couldn't let you inside the statue. It was a very enjoyable trip for me never the less...
The tech market was/is bad, but a couple of years back EVERYTHING was bad. I've done a cs/politcal science degree (the polly sci was a fall back). I graduated in 2001. I couldn't find anything at all that was cs/computer related so I went to my fall back with poly sci. You know what, I still found sh*t. I even had one company tell me i was qualified but not qualified.
Eventually, through an old neighbor, I got lucky and stumbled on a sys admin job. I won't lie im partially motivated by money. I want to one day earn enough so I can live comfortable and not worry of just barely getting by. But then again, who doesnt?
I have a cs degree. After a year of job searching it finally landed me a system administration job.
Yes we have programmers where I am but this is an engineering firm and all the programmers they hire have at least a bachelors in engineering. Basically, I'm the only one in the company with a cs degree. My other fellow since admin also has an egineering degree.
The field I'm in now, in general I like alot better than programming. I have a fascination with networks, maintaining them, and learning the newest technologies. Granted my skills are at an intermidiate level but still....
A degree is still important. Although I feel college is just a money making scam(nothing replaces on-job experience) companies will come to a point in time, like now, when they'll say you have this, this and this, but no degree.....
Your right about that. I once tried to put up an post not involving these wars. Did it ever get posted...NO!:)
Granted its not the reason it got posted but still would of liked to see the responses.
One thing I learned from my Dad, which I kinda agree with, is not to buy any stocks when they first appear on the market. Majority of the times there just overinflated. Those who day buy may be in for a rude awakening when google drops down to 20 a share...
maybe mpaa and riaa will sue so much, before they know it they be piss poor broke because all there money went to legal fees!!! that's just wishful thinking though:(
-in cases like these the only real winners are the lawyers
Well, all I have to say I think the mass murder at columbine is caused more by parents putting other needs above their kids. I mean if your kids our plotting a murder in your own house with weapons and all and you have no idea....COME ON
Security is a funny thing. You can have the most secure "unbreakable" machine on the planet but leak at the root password to the wrong hands, well your unbreakable machine just turned into a pile of shit....
Oh joy, instead of focusing on the new os and trying to get it out before the year 2020, microsoft ventures out into other areas where it probably shouldn't be.....
Forgive me for not reading the article but where is the government getting its linux from? Is it a free version or from a known company such as Red hat or Suse. I would imagine those companies would have there own people having the software checked out and tested, kind of like a commercial company. Oh wait, Red Hat is a commercial company....
Thank you. I wanted to post up something along those lines but why repeat what was said:).
Also, when it comes to defense/military the gonvernment isn't as stupid as some people perceive them to be. The hands in this country isnt run by the bumpling idiot in the white house. It's run by these covert military guys who know what there doing, who are also smart enough to keep their mouths shut to like the common folk like us thing that guy in the white house is in control of this country...
he, that should be the next celbrity boxing feud, in this corner, hailing from texas, with a 100+ killing underneath his belt, george w "freedom" bush....
and his opponent, from parts unknown, the filmmaker/writer who exposes his opponents weakness and bounces them for what its worth....michael "what freedom?" moore.
now lets get ready to RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU UUUUUUUUUMBLE
nope no surprise whatsoever. and to add to that, those who are drooling for this game to come out i somehow think have a little more than 256 ram in their system......
You can talk all you want about laws, theories governing a.i. and what not but all I know if a futuristic robot is attacking me, im finding the nearest fire hydrant and soaking them until the cows come home.
I won't buy nike shoes. I don't drink coffee(just case I hate it). Eh "safe" foods for me is taking it too far.
You're right there are alot,,ALOT of other evils in the world. Its just that most of the other evils arent monopolies and you can pick the lessor of the two evils so to speak.
I think gamecube can if they just rething their business model. They need to allow their new system to be more than just a "kiddie console". And they need to have better timing of their games(i.e not wait 2 years to come out with mario kart).
Our goal at microsoft is to make the best gaming console system possible! We will do this in spite of our buggy os and web browser. And we will prolong longhorn until 2020 if necesarry so long we provide the best damn gaming console in the world...
Yea man... At least mozilla focuses on web browser and e-mail client. Not like microsoft that always seems to have a million and one projects going(xbox,.net, msn to name a few). That way mozilla can stay more focuses on the problem...
Doesn't help either i.e. is inegrated with the o.s. Or doesn't have security features such as pop up blockers...guess we won't know for sure until the whole world switches over to mozilla but that is a risk I'm willing to take...
I'm going keep on saying it now but microsoft really has to start focusing only on their os i feel. There branching out into too many areas(programming languages such as c#, xbox, dominating the world but competing with every internet aspect possible with hotmail, msn).
At this point is just nonsense and spreading valuable resource too thin. Resources that can be better used building a securer, safer, better os....
I don't trust any new hardware once it first comes out hence i waited for over a year to by my ps2. No complaints...
Problem with gamecube for me its the lack of gaming options available. That and how long it took to com e out with there "bread and butter" games. I mean sorry but mario kart and zelda should of been the first two games the system came out with. That and a classic Mario/Luigi Super Mario Brothers game.
