"Kodak praised the verdict and said it was part of an aggressive push to convert innovations -- both homegrown and purchased -- into real money. The company over the past several years has been issuing licenses, filing lawsuits, forming spinoff companies and finding other uses for its technologies."
It seems that today, companies don't produce products, they produce lawsuits, and that's how they get their money. How long can this continue?
Furthermore, since 1.06B is about 1/3 of Sun's cash on hand (here), what will that mean for Sun? It's 7% of their total value, so this can't be good for them.
...given that it has so much caffeine as well.
I haven't had any soda in three and a half years, and I can tell you that it's still difficult not to drink it. Just smelling it really makes me want to drink some, so it definitely had an effect on me, regardless of whether that could be officially classified as addiction.
When Scott Adams put this project out to the DNRC, he said that it had to be a house that could *eventually* hold a wife and kids, and remarked that it was, after all, Dilbert.
He also suggested that we (I'm a member of the DNRC of course;) ) might make the house so wonderful that Dilbert could use it to attract a potential wife.
Since it's a no maintenance house and has separate areas for the pets and kids, it may stand a chance of achieving that goal!;)
Use MultiSync (http://multisync.sourceforge.net/)... I got it to work with my Verizon Treo 600 and Evolution 1.4, and if it can do that, it should have no problem syncing your Pocket PC.
And that is analagous to the delete key. Only you don't pay a windshield fee to the car manufacturer in addition to that, so my argument is entirely true.
The difference is that with email, you *PAY* to receive it.
When you get postal spam, or windshield spam, or billboard spam, there's no ISP fee.
You PAY your ISP for your email. When other people flood your InBox with crap, they are stealing from you and your ISP (by taking up your bandwidth and/or computer processing, and the ISP's server resources).
SPAM is theft of service, and that's why people get pissed about it.
Ok, so you missed the "tempting" part in there - I never said I did it. Boy, some people - you try and be funny, and they jump all over you. Lighten up.
...and the reason that I'd, uh, consider downloading a movie - ADS. I *HATE* going to the theatre, paying $10 to see a movie, and having to sit through three or four commercials before I can watch a movie. I just paid $10 to see the movie (which will be full of enough "product placement" as it is) - I don't want to see ADS too! It becomes so much more tempting to download since the movie industry is making it obvious that they're trying to squeeze out every last dime.
...not added on afterward. As soon as Microsoft realises this, they can placate people with XP SE 2, and work on incorporating security into LongHorn.
This isn't a troll, just a plan of action that would make the most sense for them, maximise their inward cashflow, and still keep them on track (somewhat) for a release of LongHorn in 2006.
"Because the next version of Windows, called Longhorn, may not ship until 2007, analysts say, the Office overhaul is needed in the meantime to deliver more Web services technology to the desktop. The new capabilities in the Office system are also needed to lure software developers to create more applications that run on Microsoft products."
If they can't reinvent Office, and their next version of Windows won't be out until 2007, their income streams will dry up and they'll need to tap into their cash reserves, which I'm sure is the last thing they want to do.
...as they're likely to have the same kind of site hosted in multiple places to avoid this problem.:( At best, it will drive up the costs of maintaining said sites, but those costs aren't that high to begin with.
Furthermore, this does nothing to the spammers whose hosters are in collusion with them, and who are profiting themselves.
According to this story at TreoCentral, it will not work with the Treo 600.
But since you (and I;) ) get Internet anywhere there's a cell signal, it shouldn't be too much of a loss. All I can say is I'm glad I have the unlimited data plan.;)
...since they sell their hardware at a loss. (Granted, they get money from the service subscription.)
Microsoft loses billions of dollars on the XBox, to sell games.
This is common, and will be getting moreso. It won't be long before hardware is essentially free, and the software/services you buy are where the money is generated.
Your parents: SNES or a PONY. You have to learn to make the hard choices.
My parents: Take the job or play with your friends. You have to learn to make the hard choices.
Your parents: Here's the SNES. Oh, and we felt bad, and got you the PONY too.
My parents: No, you can't have an advance. Save your earnings and buy the console if you want it.
I had to save my allowance for months to buy my Genesis (I had gotten the NES for XMas), and that was just so that my parents could teach me the value of things... and yours made you choose between an SNES and a PONY?
All computer repair facilities in the State of California have to register with, and follow the strict rules of, the Bureau of Electronics and Applicane Repair (B.E.A.R.). A repair store can't operate without that - they have to be licensed in order to even stay open.

Ok, please tell me how I can change the SOA on 150 domain files all at once with pointing and clicking.
In bash, it's:
sed -i s/oldSOA/newSOA/g *
Until there's a way to do search and replace on any number of files that's easier than that, the command line will still be useful.

...take for instance yesterday. The developers, who are fully aware of how email works, came to me and said that one server couldn't send email from another server. So I asked them if they had tried logging into the server to telnet to the mail port on the other server. Of course, they hadn't. I did it, with root and the regular user, and it worked fine in both instances.
In the space of ten minutes, they had wasted my time. They had distracted me from what I was doing. And why? They assumed that the script they were writing couldn't possibly be at fault. They didn't take basic steps (that they knew how to do!) and assumed that the problem must be with the servers.
The next time they come to me, I will be less likely to be as willing to help, as I will know that they have both wasted my time before and have not likely taken basic steps to troubleshoot. So I will be more annoying next time.
...and realise that US $100 is about CA $132. (As of this morning.)
So if you have some money saved, a 40% "reduction" in pay (is that 40% factoring the exchange rate?) isn't really all that terrible, especially since the cost of living is lower.
But then you have to deal with the cold, which might or might not be a problem depending on whether you like that or not.
as the next stable release of Gentoo is due out this quarter. (And the next one, next quarter... etc.)
Gentoo has all the power and stability that Debian has, is just as free (speech and beer), and stable releases every quarter. No waiting until 2005.
...my mother already does this when I drive her anywhere... do I really need the car to do it as well?

Didn't this happen with Solaris?
Version 2.7 was marketed as 7...
Version 2.8 was marketed as 8...
And now we have Solaris 9, and Solaris 10 is coming soon.
