People are lazy. It's just that simple. It may sound offensif but this is the truth. I hear a lot of "dammit why is my system so slow" (or other negative comments) made on windows but nobody bothers to look for alternatives. It's there and they will stick with it. Of course, a good bunch of us got sick of it and therefor we look for better alternatives.
I'm not saying it wasn't an interesting experiment but I see _no_ benefits for us, the people, the end-user. Somebody, guide me to the light but not the one saying "Enlarge this Enlarge that" >_>
So much people aren't up to date. First of all, Valve removed the CD-Check from all retail copies.
Second of all, seeing how Valve banned more than 50 00 accounts for trying to use a pirated copy, that's all the proof I need to see that Steam works when it's suppose to.
Yes I'm also pissed when shit like this happends but this is the price to pay for a company that decides to implement a system such as this one. At the beginning, Steam was _REALLY_ a pile of crap but they improved it a lot and that's what counts.
Although I agree with you, I'm pretty sure there isn't any other system and/or technique that works as well against pirated copies as Steam. Games ripped off from the net is one of the biggest cause of income loss for gaming companies and Valve simply got fedup.
If a company decides to take the decision of requiring every single customer to connect to a network before using the product in question, then I hope for them that they are confident enough (not overconfident) and be prepared for the worst, such as the situation you described.
In event that the above would happend, it would be even harder to trust another system (similar to Steam) that may be created by some other company.
Homer and Mindy are at the hotel and they called room service. Mr. Burns: Room service again? We'll see about that.. *removes curtain off cages. See monkeys with fake bat wings attatched* Mr Burns: Fly my minions! Fly! *Monkeys go thru window and all fall*
You make it sound as if it was something wonderful. As somebody who's had Videotron in the past, I'l fill up the necessary information.
- In my neighborhood, cable would get slow at Rush Hour. This was back then with a 4mbps connection - They constantly change the deals. Sometimes, they make things better and sometimes really bad. For example, We (family) left because back then, the download limit per month was 6GB and for that speed, completely ridiculious. we payed $270 cause we downloaded around 20GB. Not long after we left, they made a sudden change by raising the cap's limit although we were never informed if such possible change to occur in the not-so-distant future. - Their slower plans have silly caps that are in place to make more ppl go with the fastest/unlimited plan. The caps are easily beat within days. At least 500GB makes more sense than 20.
That being said, we use AEI because it's $30/monthly for 3Mbps/800Kbps. Of course, the technical support blows beyond your imagination but it's fast most of the time. Of course, Bell's Sympatico (competing xDSL-providing company) isn't that great either "Can you verify if you have a microwave close to your modem?" shrug...
All those Pentium 4's "Prescott" running sure are a threat for the future.
Sadly, many aren't aware that alternative cooling for the prescotts is strongly reccomended. Then again, many have no clue what's even in their computer casing.
So QWERTY is standardized as a layout among the hundreads of schools/institutions and thousands of companies, a bunch use DVORAK although I honestly ignore its popularity/usage.
As time goes on, more and more computers are found in the lives of Mr. and Mrs. John Smith. Most probably they will use QWERTY simply because it's there and established. Anybody using the least logic possible will understand that introducing an alphabetical keyboard will screw people up. Getting used to different layouts is more of a hassle than being user-friendly.
One trick is to tell them stories that don't go anywhere, like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time... - Abe Simpson
Remember the episode when Homer meets again the same "nerds" that "helped" him pass (actually forgot the episode..)
Geek: I invented a program that downloads porn off the internet one million times faster.
Marge: Does anyone need that much porno?
Homer::drools: One million times...
I'm not sure what world you come from but the original Walkmans were made to take severe beatings and still function. You should at least specify which generation such as today's budget-aimed minidiscs.
It's not even the same articles. The link from Sony admitting mp3 error doesn't even work and the one provided in this news post is linked to Forbes.
Considering the fact that the site (from the older article) is down, maybe that's why they provided another marked "UPDATED" article related to the mp3 error? "Duping" related articles isn't always a bad thing now is it
The one where Sony admitted the mp3 error was regarding their digital music players such as the minidiscs or hard-drive based. This is why their latest hdd players (and future) supports mp3 playback and maybe other formats that are more "universal" than lets say ATRAC.
This article mentions the UMD format to be opened "We have already proposed UMD disc media as an open standard for everyone," he says. "The game profile will be unique for PlayStation Portable but movie and music should be a common application for everyone."
You cannot succeed unless you attend class. Don't think that when you get to college or the real world you can succeed by not showing up just because you don't have to. It doesn't work like that.
That's true in a lot of cases, but not for Computer Science students. What teachers show us in some theory classes can be self taught at home, at the library or at a computer lab using the dozens of available textbooks.
What I do is ask the teacher what he'll be covering up in the following classes so I'll know if I have to attend or not. Then again, that's in the case that you have a cool teacher who got to know you and how you work best and luckily for me, I've had teachers like that in programming classes.

and the layout is fine on either browser.

Well I hope they improved the prescott cores or did something about the heat cause the temps of the previous Northwoods were perfect.
do not shave your private parts with the iPod Shuffle..... or any iPods :x
Take this advice wisely from somebody who's "in spandex" for a reason.
If the result of mixing an animal and human is something that does not think, if you ask me, that's more animal than man.
Anyone remember those?

Mr. Burns: Room service again? We'll see about that..
*removes curtain off cages. See monkeys with fake bat wings attatched*

He will soon be able to achieve that!

Only in slashdot could a person read the following statement:
Anal sex works of both genders but you don't like anal sex at all.
