Very few actors earn 6 figures. And those that do, well, their appearance in the movie will draw more of an audience, thus boosting revenue. So, in a way, their time is worth money.
Now, an argument could certainly be made that our society is too celebrity-oriented, but that's a different argument than the one you're making.
It's from a previous article (obviously, as this is a slashback). Summary: Britain is passing a law protecting religious beliefs against slander or sth. like that; this MP is saying (right or wrong) that if that's the case, he's gonna call himself a Jedi, and anyone who mocks him for it could be in trouble under this law. At least, that's how I understand it.
I will no longer vote for any incumbent candidate, whether it be dog catcher or president or anyone in between. Ever again. I've been burned and I've learned my lesson.
I can't believe I just read this -how stupid are you? Assuming you have a choice between candidates (in practice, for most posts, you have two choices, though you may disagree on that) it would be stupid to vote against the better choice simply because s/he is an incumbent!
Lots of room there for tinkering if you want. Adjust/add/remove/replace pulleys, change how tight the outhaul and other ropes are, sand or otherwise modify your centerboard or daggerboard... all sortsa fun stuff!
So far, they haven't. But they will eventually, as Page & Brin aren't around to enforce corporate culture, it'll probably drift. If not before. But then, I don't do anything over Gmail that is even remotely private - and I try to avoid putting such things on any email account, anywhere.
Amen. I'm the summer guy in a Dreamweaver shop, and I'm the only one who codes by hand. The code they've been creating generally validates, but thank $DIETY I don't have to touch it - they're doing a site redesign right now, but they're not re-coding from scratch. Instead, they're copying old pages, then modifying 'em - which results in horrible code (not just bad variables, which is obnoxious if you hand code, but classes that are identical, etc.). You don't really need a dual setup or $500 to code by hand (I don't have it, although I wish I did sometimes), but Dreamweaver is nasty stuff.
Your guess was right. However, I don't really like horizontal scrolling, and (especially b/c of the PB's wide aspect ratio) I rarely come across a site where it's necessary.
I disagree - I've used horizontal scrolling on my PowerBook, and it's horrible. Always screwing things up when you try to scroll, even going back and forwards in the browser history... might be different on a smaller pad, but I'm not sold on it.
I'm not involved with the Fink project, but I am running Gnome on Tiger right now. Just one minor hurdle, b/c someone forgot to install/etc/fontconfig files.
They mentioned three non-cancer diseases: Tay-Sachs, Gaucher, and one that I'm too lazy to remember. As they pointed out, Gaucher is the only one of the three that doesn't cause childhood mortality - but it would definitely have caused increased mortality during the period when he claims this all happened (I've met a few Gaucher patients, and have followed the clinical trials rather closely). Thus, being "crippled" (we prefer the term disabled, at least in the US) would not have been an advantage - just as having sickle-cell anemia isn't an advantage. Somewhat like double-dose issues in the children of achondroplastic parents.
You are quite obviously not familiar with pharmaceuticals development. Disregarding the cost of producing drugs, research and certification can be incredibly expensive - especially if you're talking about a rare disorder. Recently, a drug for a disorder called MPS VI was approved. MPS VI is a horrible disease, and developing a drug was very difficult, in part because there are (at most) 1500 people in the world with the disorder. That's not diagnosed patients, either - that's an estimate of the *total* number of people with the disease.
Indexing based on a mutual ranking system isn't innovative? Caching pretty much the entire web isn't innovative? Sure, it's not nearly as amazing as what Bell Labs used to do, but it is innovative. And BL (now Lucent) is no longer in its heyday.
Temporarily - then it gets put back (I didn't RTFA either, but that's what it says). And the *smart* way to do it would be to have a regular library card so you could explain why you were seen there at that time. Then, you'd check out everything non-suspi... damn it, I'm wasting too much time with this crap.
Dies how? I did this just yesterday in XHTML; it didn't die, it just didn't show anything (even View Source said it was empty). Then again, in Firefox, nothing shows up after that script tag until you have a close script tag. Which is really dumb, as that is *exactly* what self-closing tags are for!

IANAL, or an MP, or a UKer.

That's the fastest dupe I've ever seen.
Hello, China? I've got something you might want.
[pause]
Yes, *all* the tea.
Unfortunately, not all OSs support screen flashing (in its many incarnations) as a substitute for the terminal bell.
That would make me watch C-Span a lot more than I do now (yes, I watch C-Span regularly - sosumi).

And just as I find out that SciFi won't be on Comcast basic cable starting in August ...
Please post it when you get home. If only for backup purposes, it'd be good to have around.

That happens to me a lot, and I'm not even using a wireless mouse! ...
Oh. SHIT.

I'm probably being trolled, but I'll bite (the high user id helps ...). IANAL == I Am Not A Lawyer (but perhaps I play one on slashdot)
It could potentially cause the ISP to lose their common carrier status. (IANAL, but that's what it looks like to me).

Northwestern U for me, and I've taken all of two classes there - and never even set foot on campus!
Yes. Perhaps this thread should be an impromptu petition for a re-release?
