I was surprised when Seagate bought them. Maxtor was always a 'eh..' kind of disk manufacturer and Seagate has always been one of my favourite in terms of quality. Sorry Seagate but I'm not buying Maxtor disks ever.
Someone needs to inform these people that [their idea of] security is not the end all. They seem to act as if anything that is in the way of security has to be removed. Difficult to gather intelligence? Sorry. Tough shit. That's unfortunate but you'll have to work with it because we aren't giving up our liberties. I wish I could change everything that makes my job tough to suit my job first but that's not why I'm there.
I must add, that I think they're lying anyway. They will use that excuse to get greater control and a lot of feeble minds right now are bowing to the security threat bs. Grow a backbone already and tell these clowns to get stuffed.
Then maybe I wouldn't have to go out and buy insurance just for the bleeding MRI only to find out my ACL is only partially torn and doesn't need surgery.
Seriously, if you are paying out of pocket the cost of the MRI alone is prohibitive. I find it hard to believe it really costs the operator $1-2K to fire it up for 45 minutes, but IANAC.
Isn't it nice. After all the years of creating safety standards for toys and consumer goods, just to throw it all away now that we don't manufacture a flipping thing and 'assume' that our source partners in developing countries will naturally have gone through that too. Oh, that makes sense especially when they charge pennies to the dollar of what we used to pay our own workers. Corporations don't care about safety, they just want someone else to be liable.
Need a business idea? How about building your own high quality product right here in your hometown. We need them.
Outside of the usual signs, it is becoming more obvious since they are now using a template. There was almost nothing unique about this event compared to the more recent ones. They trigger one of their victims when they need to have pressure for a government to push through a new piece of legislation. Or else one of the students was a high value target (less likely). This newer template of the assassin always killing himself in the end is much easier than the old days where they would have to have a 3rd party kill the assassin (Oswald, although he was not the killer but that's that), or work very hard to make sure that no one ever spoke with the assassin to discover that he has no memory of the event (Sirhan Sirhan, McViegh).
After all the US wrote the book & if they can teach the Chinese, the Russians should be a snap.
Do you google? Do you think you know what's going on? They bought youtube so they can help you see even better. Get ready for 2008. The new programming gets deployed and will really change what you see/think.
Hmm.. Better go watch "They Live" a couple more times.
If for example a wmv file really contains and mpeg with some junk, is it enough to rename that whole file.mpeg or can you actually remove the junk. Something that does like a
$ cat wrapped.wmv | grep -v "http://spawnsomecrap.com/crap.html" > clean.mpeg..except in a windows utility (or command?!.)?..
I can't believe this was tagged with haha. Why is it funny when non-techsavvy people lose all their valuable data? It's not funny. It's terrible. As techies, we should be educating & empowering people, not isolating them.
He talks extensively about returning the US to sound money and has been criticizing the Fed for years. You can see some of his speeches from congress to the fed on c-span or youtube.
I did read the manual. It's called the US Constitution. Libertarians are the only one's who follow and actually VALUE the Constitution. Dems and Reps claim to value it but really see it as an obstruction to their other agenda. The Constitution is a truly brilliant document and most Americans don't really understand the the values it is based on. Those ideas even today are fairly unique and it's hard to find a society that truly believes in liberty.
So if your an coder or analyst and understand the value of sticking to a spec.. You might understand why following the Constitution is so important. Pushing it aside for a current popular view is called bad design. I wish more people in Washington would read Mythical Man Month.
It would be nice if they posting a listing or link to the study. I mean they did the research and then issue a general statement without all that useful specific data.. Oh, why do I have a feeling LaserJet 1320nw is at the top of the list?
SEGWAY: This printer is perfect in the tradition of LaserJet 13xx printers, plus it has wireless JetDirect integrated. However.. This model ships with a huge known flaw. The front loader/envelope feed does not work at all. HP knows about this and never issued a recall (still sells them). I asked if there would be a firmware update or some kind of fix and they said, "that's possible" in 2005 when I bought it. I was so upset because aside from calculators I feel like the LaserJet 13xx & JetDirect were the gold standard for those categories. But with the growth of HP they have clearly lost their ability to do basic testing on their most important products. Ah, the sun has set on the days of real quality 'american' products. END_OF_SEGWAY
I refuse to put in my user password every damn time I want to do anything.
That's crap. If you want to run as root you just do it. Ubuntu just doesn't require creating root password/environment during install. Their approach is smart for most. If you must, just do a 'passwd root', then su and you've got your precious root.
Widespread desktop and soho adoption does not mean educating new users on this new thing called 'root access'. That will only aggravate/intimidate the new user or give them a dangerous new curiosity. Why give a kid out of drivers-ed a 2007 Enzo Ferrari when he should really have a 1995 Honda Civic?
Do we have to keep a copy of all the encrypted messages that pass through our servers too? I guess everyone will have to turn a copy of their key over to the security administrator. Kinda kills the whole thing doesn't it?..
Everyone expects bugs in a new OS release, but.. I realize that most people treat IPv6 like global warming. We all know we HAVE TO adopt it but are (as harmoniously as possible) ALL putting it off until we have no choice. When we finally do 'flip the switch' over to IPv6 there will be LOTS of vista installs all over the net that didn't get the update for their corrupt network stack. If it breaks printers, you know there are other problems yet to be discovered.
MS: If you are going to monopolize the desktop market, have some sense of responsibility! As much as we hate it, the world depends on your products. Why don't you just build a windows-esque front end for a bsd based system on your next OS already? No one will give a shit and consumers will finally get the product they deserve and paid for.
Google just does too darn much. One option might be to use it in 'basic HTML' view. Another is to compose your messages in a text editor then cut and paste (but quickly!) when you are ready to send..:/

Mandatory toothpicks in the eyes for that meeting. Actually all meetings.
Once I flinched so hard I kicked the table and spilt the speaker's coffee.
Okay. Which reason? Why?

I thought Captain America was created by accidentally being exposed to 'Gamma Rays'.
Seriously, does MIT do anything anymore besides develop military applications?
I never touch my minute limit anyway. WTF would I pay extra to switch to a wifi network? They should be paying me.

doesn't the government already have copies of all our e-mail anyway? Echelon. Believe it.

Completely stupid.
