    Yep, I remember the first ones installed near where I live were removed because they allegedly caused accidents due to drivers being distracted by them, because unlike regular cats' eyes, they're visible in the rear view mirror.

    One of the best arguments for gun control is embodied in the Oscar Pistorius murder trial going on in South Africa right now. Thank to guns, he was able to kill his girlfriend through a closed door. His defence is basically that he mistook his girlfriend for a potentially armed intruder. Irregardless of the outcome of the trial, we may never know for sure whether his claims are truthful or not.

    Now take away the gun. Although it would still have been possible for Pistorius to have killed his girlfriend, you can be certain that this was his intent.

    No. Oxidation means a gain in oxidation state or the loss of electron(s) by an ion/molecule/atom during any redox reaction - It is not specific to reactions involving Oxygen.

    The skydiver had his 'chute open (so probably moving at around 30kph) and the rock was said to be moving at ~300kph... So the rock was passing him at ~75m/s

    If the video was shot at 25fps progressive (This is in PAL-land, remember), the rock would move around 3m between frames. Which pretty much matches up to that composite image from TFA.

    They didn't say "if you get a scrape you will die." They said "if you get a scrape you could potentially die," which is a factual statement if we have no effective antibiotics.

    Yes, but they've deliberately and carefully worded it in such a way that people will think the extreme "if you get a scrape you will die" upon reading it. They could have said: "Wounds of all types will carry a greater risk of untreatable infection." But they worded the sentence to include the least severe cause and the worst case effect.

    That, IMHO is scaremongering.
