  1. Orbiting the sun at precisely ... on Hayabusa Probe Lands on Asteroid After All · · Score: 1

Up there somewhere. I think this team should be put in charge of future planet killer asteroid deflection missions. After all what could possibly go wrong?

  2. Hmmmm on Would You Use Ad-Supported Windows? · · Score: 1

Which free os shall I use? I could take the ad supported one which will bombard me with junk offers to ignore and be as secure as a rickety wooden shack surrounded by zombies. Or shall I use the one which is just plain free and secure? Nope, I just can't decide.

  3. Shanghai on Game Worlds and The Law Collide · · Score: 1

We often see that incident in Shanghai cited as being to do with video game violence. As I recall what actually happened was that his mate sold the item for real money and did not share it. That is why the murder happened. Rest assured if you sell anything of mine and refuse to hand over the money, I would kill you too, and I have never played an MMORPG.

  4. Most important of all on ePaper To Be Used For Newspapers and Magazines · · Score: 1

What happened to the xxx domain? The moral minority were outraged. There could be rude things, tits, gay people. So the president intervened and put it on hold. That is why we can no longer tolerate US control of the internerd. We want our filth and we want it now. Rise up and overthrow the imperialist prurient opressors.

  6. Re:Does it threaten their lawsuits? on The Chumbawamba Factor · · Score: 1

Not at all. The whole point of the lawsuits is to be so intimidating nobody will dare contest them. Being a bunch of completely immoral hypocrites just makes them more scary.

  7. Re:Good God man! on Video Game Industry to Sue Michigan's Governor · · Score: 1

"As I said before, the community is not responsible for your child. You are." Ok, cool, I'm going to choose to raise my kid to follow in the family business of drug running, prostitution and murder. I think maybe society will decide it has a right to intervene after all, either while I am raising him this way or sometime after. It's an extreme example, but there is a limit to the the truth of your point. Where that fuzzy line is drawn is a matter of opinion, for discussion, not absolute right or wrong.

  8. Re:Maybe, but it doesn't work with databases... on An Early Look at JUnit 4 · · Score: 1

I have done quite a bit of testing on one of our database dependant apps using mock objects. Very powerful once I got my head around it. Once you start wanting to test against a real database, it is no longer unit testing, it is system testing, because the code is no longer isolated.

  9. Re:Starforce 3 support? on Performance of 64-bit vs. 32-bit Windows Dual Core · · Score: 1

If you want a 64 bit system, don't let the DRM stand in your way. That is not what it is supposed to be for. I think in this case you are well within your rights to look for a crack which will allow you to use the goods you have paid for. Write and complain vociferously to them. How dare they obstruct you in this way.

  10. Big log on New Round of P2P Lawsuits from Hollywood · · Score: 2, Interesting

This reminds me of an old girlfriend of mine. Sometime after we parted she got into dealing amphetamines for extra cash. Not being the sharpest tool in the box, she was caught at it after a while. She was so popular with everybody when the police found her diary with dates details and names of all her friends.

I remember my A-Level chemistry teacher telling us that the table was not really flat but should be rolled into a cylinder. That is easy enough to imagine, removing the artificial separation of the edges and still easier to read than this pretty picture.

  18. Radiation? on NASA Proposes Warming Mars · · Score: 1

We are told that the Earth's magnetic field shields us from cosmic radiation. Even if we could give Mars a thicker atmosphere and warm it up, we'd still have to wear factor 3000 sun cream to go for a walk.

I read through the whole thing, and I don't know if anybody else noticed how often the phrase "child pornography" was used, like every other line. I do resent such a crass attempt to manipulate the emotions of the reader into agreeing with the rest of the letter. Still, obviously it worked on the Attorney Generals who signed it the instant the RIAA showed it to them.
