But is the problem that they aren't properly stating who the source code belongs to? I mean, I thought code-copy was okay in the GPL so long as you noted the GPL warning and who the code came from.....For example, I can repackage an OS and sell it with my own support, etc (a la CentOS -> RedHat), so long as I make such statments, right?
I really don't know - so it'd help if someone would explain it instead of modding me (-1, stupid)
IANAL, but I thought this might violate the Internet Tax Freedom Act of 1998 (which was renewed in 2003)......
However, this comes straight from the federal law -
SEC. 1101. MORATORIUM.
(b) Preservation of State and Local Taxing Authority.-- Except as provided in this section, nothing in this title shall be construed to modify, impair, or supersede, or authorize the modification, impairment, or superseding of, any State or local law pertaining to taxation that is otherwise permissible by or under the Constitution of the United States or other Federal law and in effect on the date of enactment of this Act.
The funny thing is, the whole law is VOLUNTARY! Although I don't think it'll matter if they really want to get the money....If it comes to pass, they'll probably make a provision to make it mandatory
What does this mean for any of us American citizens that...ahem...may have used Allofmp3s services?
Will there be a price to pay for us? The legality is quite confusing (and yes, ignorance of the law, no matter how stupid, is no defence) and who knows what will happen to us.....
Me? I got rid of my account and waiting to see whats next......
TFA states that no Blackberry or Blackberry-like devices were counted.....Could this have pulled the numbers up?
I think the line between pda/cell phone is starting to blur....Might as well have counted the Blackberry....Hell, you can do most of what you need to on a PDA on a cell phone these days. And they come free/relatively cheap with new service
Than just sending up a rescue ship? I mean, lets say at worse theres some catastrophic disaster that causes Ship A to be a total loss. How does Ship B ferry the rest home? Are the shuttles built and designed to hold and land with two crews? You create the potential for either overweight shuttles on re-entry, or you could cause loss of human life if they get bumped around enough on landing/re-entry. An okay idea, but I think wed be better off with solutions that either involve-
A- An escape module B- A way to repair the shuttle while in space
The scientists behind climateprediction.net believe their project, because it is distributed to individual PCs, can help inform people about climate change - and that, in turn could bring political change.
I hate to say it but people wont care. Youd have to ask for drastic changes in the way things are done, ranging from moving to lesser polluting cars to stronger pollution controls......People are resistant to this kind of change, and the controls enforced in the First World often are ignored in the Third World (ie-China, India, etc) A life-changing event (akin to that of the movie The Day After Tommorrow (minus the horrible science)) would be the only surefire way change people......
One would assume it would be pretty hard for your Joe Sixpack to go out and just print these things willy-nilly. How hard is it to make these things? TFA doesnt say anything, but were they using pre-existing UPCs and copying them, or is it relatively easy to forge/copy UPC codes to ones liking...
Furthermore, Im suprised they werent caught earlier. Itd be pretty damn hard to get those past some sort of return. Hell, I took a DVD back to WalMart after Christmas and they wanted my drivers license number (I left the tin foil hat at home:) ), so one would assume they would have gotten caught sooner.....
There were plenty of other people to ask (SpamHaus, maybe the people behind SpamAssassin), but they ask an in-company division for their information on spam. Yes, spam is going down on AOL (as noted in a recent/. story), but couldnt they have asked others along with the numbers from AOL?
Rant aside, Im suprised it was Vioxx prescriptions - most of the ones I get are for improving my sex life....Vioxx was just named deadly by somebody, wasnt it?
Im glad theyre getting somewhere.....But lower the prices on these damn things
TFA talks about getting these to replace bulky tube tvs but they arent going to do it they way they charge for them. Most of the unwashed masses will not spend that much for a tv. Hell, who can afford some of them?
First company to make these with great picture, decent size and priced at or comprable to the tube-based televisions will be worth millions.....billions even.....
to jump on the RIAA/MPAA/AAA/*AA bandwagon and claim that the internet is ruining traditional sales? How are they calculating these numbers? Are they saying that these are lost sales from would-be listers? Hmph....
Ive seen plenty of papers with their own online classifieds...I cant see how theyd lose so much anyway. Its pretty easy to grab a newspaper/SuperShopper/free local classified-crap paper and hunt for what youre looking for. Ive had mixed success with Craigslist....YMMV
Forcing ISPs to turn off/temporarily disable the accounts of zombied, 0wned, computers? Isnt that where most of the spam comes from? How much spam could be stopped that way?
Doesnt have to be permanent, just cut it off and request the user run ad-aware/spybot/a decent virus scan and away they go......
...to use USB tv tuners. Arent there problems with moving all that video across the USB interface? I remember talk about making an Xbox run Myth off a usb tuner, and it was quickly denounced as impossible....I heard the same thing about a laptop and a WinTV USB hauppauge tuner....
I saw this mac case mod awhile back in Maximum PC, I think. Guy took a G4 tower and crammed non-mac hardware inside....They called it the Rotten Apple. Nice paint job as well. Take a look, it at HardOCP -
There's a large virus risk! Especially when you've got anti-virus software to sell.....

looking things, if you ask me. Apple has some very nice design when it comes to mp3 players, IMHO.
But (good for Sony), the players all have native mp3 support....I always hated the fact that they used their propretary ATARC3 for minidisc players

First Amendment still apply in this country anymore?

Do you have unlimited service? Or do you pay the $17.95 for 3 movies at a time?
And what was with the link? It seemed to me like it was more of a fan-blog and less of a Netflix is a dishonest company site......
Can you explain more? Or are you just mad cause you didnt get the movies you wanted?

I gave it a run.....Definitely better than mapquest....Map moves smoothly, instead of having to click and wait for a reload. Nicer interface....
But how does it work?

What's the point if you can't do anything useful? It's like XP Starter Edition.....
Old or not, once people realize it's useless, they won't like it.

Whatever happened to them? Theyre supposed to save us from having to having to charge like that.....Top off the.....methanol?....and go....
I personally cant wait til theyre readily available....Does anybody have any info?
Back on topic - I dont think many businesses have a problem with people doing so...Power consumption cant be too too bad, and it brings in traffic...
