Feeding a troll here, but this irks me. I haven't researched this DEEPLY, so I may be wrong, but this is my understanding of the issue. Most languages (including those that I have studied: German, Spanish, and Arabic) have gendered nouns. For instance, in German the word for "the" is der, die, or das for masculine, feminine, and neuter respectively. Somewhere along the line, English lost this feature, and nouns no longer have gender. However, originally, the word "man", in the context of referring to "mankind" was of NEUTRAL gender. Thus, not only is today's use of the word "man" to mean "people" NOT sexist, but is actually gender correct.
Interesting...Robert Charles Wilson wrote "Blind Lake" which was essentially about a software telescope powered by quantum computers. It was a fairly interesting read. Once again, reality imitates fiction.;)
I can't disagree that we get a somewhat rosier picture of what the Allies did than what is probably reality. Although, some movies tend to be a bit more honest. Saving Private Ryan had some pretty telling moments ("Don't shoot them...let them burn!" comes to mind). One of the principles of total war is that EVERYONE is a target...civilians can work in bomb factories. That makes them the enemy, too.
True also what you said about the Soviets. They were incredibly brutal. I tend to remove them from being our allies immediately after the end of the war...it was pretty clear by then that we were going to have to fight them sooner or later. Not to mention the fact that they too came as conquerers...once they moved over a territory they never left it.
At any rate, I think the bottom line is that war is a horrible, ugly thing that should be avoided at all costs. But when it is staring you in the face, my belief is that you should do whatever is in your power to end it as quickly as possible. This isn't meant as a justification of vicious acts of pure malevolence, however...as we are seeing today, that only serves to fuel future wars that you will have to fight with even more destructive weapons.
While I'll agree that both sides did questionable things during WWII, I take issue that the Allies were nearly morally equivalent to the Axis. This is simply not true.
The fundamental difference between the Axis and the Allies was that the Axis was the INITIATOR of violence. Germany invaded and subjugated most of continental Europe. They tried to take Britain and the Soviet Union as well. Japan invaded and enslaved China. Italy...well, Italy conquered Ethiopia. The role of the Allies was a RESPONSE to this aggression. As another basis of comparison, ask the locals of any of these invaded countries who treated them better: their Axis overlords or their Allied liberators?
If your position is that violence is NEVER justified, even in self-defense or in response to agression, that is another debate. My personal rule of thumb is that I will meet agression with any level of response necessary to protect me and mine.
Some of the Cray supercomputers have onboard FPGA's with custom libraries you can load to solve specific problems. Couple this with your own code and you can get a pretty danged decent speedup.
The US public school system itself is counterproductive to education and has been for over 100 years. Read John Gatto's account of the downward spiral of the American educational system. It's quite eye-opening, especially if you, like myself, are a product of the US public school system:

Offtopic, but I beg to differ. Yes, what the Misfits did was fantastic and their influence on metal/hard rock is difficult to overstate, but some of Danzig's later stuff is phenomenal. Sure, his lyrics tend to be self-congratulatory and often cheesy, but the quality of the vocals truly stands out against the swamp that modern metal has become. Glenn has an ear for melody and harmony that is truly refreshing.
Of course, take this all with a grain of salt since I also think Type O Negative is one of the most underappreciated bands on the scene today.
Er, close but not quite right. If the downforce vector of the spoiler passes *exactly* through the rear axle of the car (imaginary or otherwise) then you are almost correct, it won't lift the front of the car. It also won't put *any* downforce on the front wheels. I would be very surprised if this is the case, however. Also, since the car is presumably moving *forward*, if you factor in the additional drag induced by the spoiler, which most definitely won't have a force vector colinear with the downforce vector (it will in fact point towards the rear of the car and not into the axle) you will indeed have a lessening of the force on the front wheels. Of course, simply accelerating has the same effect, which is why I have never understood FWD on a "performance" car. I invite you to draw the free-body diagram to verify this for yourself. Use the center of the rear wheels and sum all the torques around it.
But apparently, not mightier than the Flaming Bacon Lance of Death. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9dskxN10N0/
No doubt! I mean, how can Clinton NOT be considered the apex of the American Presidency when you have clods like Thomas Jefferson to compare against?
Edwin A. Abbott's classic tale of interdimensional hot, crimefighting chicks.
Agreed. Kingdom Come was an outstanding comic. And if you liked K.C., you'll love "Marvels" which was also drawn by Alex Ross. Phenomenal.

Not to mention the fact that it doesn't sound STUPID like "200-person".
Some Cray supercomputers have this ability today...and I think they are running Linux, too. :)
Let us not forget his other title: King of the Impossible. Greatest...soundtrack....evar.
Not only that, but Frank Herbert was on hand for the making of the movie and fully approved of it.
Man, I wish I had modpoints. This is the funniest thing I've read on Slashdot in ages.
An old boss of mine added a corollary to this statement:
"Except in the world of IT...where it's called experience."

Then here's my question: I want to know, what you're thinking...there are some things you can't can't hide. Pure Energy!

I'm ashamed to say I don't know much about Life of Agony. Time to look them up and check it out...
