They were releasing a lot of subscriber-only content so one who subscribes gets a crapton of new features. No idea if it's worth it, I didn't subscribe (and didn't play online as offline play had no lag).
If WAR (that's the official acronym) relies only on the Warhammer fanbase it has no chance to dethrone WoW. WoW is successful because it appealed to a broad variety of gamers and even non-gamers. WAR could very well be a better game in the eyes of the fans but still fail to even dent WoW's numbers because being good for the fans does not automatically mean it's good for everyone else. There are even people who think the grind should be painful and death punishing just so they can feel elite for reaching the maximum level but most people don't want that.
I think if this was WH40k there'd be much more people who care, fantasy Warhammer doesn't sound particularly unique in the fantasy genre (especially since Warcraft already stole most of their ideas). The branding won't be enough to differentiate it from WoW and WoW has annihilated all other MMOs in the market by means of superior implementation, all you'd get here is another implementation of the same basic idea except it's likely not as good as the market leader.
And seriously, who gives a damn about yet another tolkienesque fantasy setting? MMOs need more dakka!
I think there could be but MMO designers are thinking too much inside the box so all MMOs are alike and almost noone has the ability to beat Blizzard on even footing.
They'll announce A,B and C for the first expansion, release it with A and B, say C gets patched in, announce the second expansion with C, D and E, release it with C and D, etc.
Maybe. But as my Philosophy Prof used to say, "Show me who your friends are and I'll tell you what kind of man you are."
That doesn't mean you are like your friends. It means your personality searches for certain kinds of friends. E.g. a submissive person would seek a commandeering person et vice versa.
How many people really have the chance to create such backup plans? Where would a burger flipper work as a contractor? The low skill sectors have huge numbers of willing workers and not nearly enough work to fill all positions. Not everyone works in a field where they can choose their job so easily (and often those fields don't provide enough income to allow any serious saving either).
The * Games titles (Summer Games, California Games and a third one, Winter Games?) are in the top 20 list of the Virtual Console. The top spots are obviously taken by the likes of Mario and Zelda. The other C64 games I remember as being on the system (not top 20 though) are Paradroid, Castelian, Last Ninja and Cybernoid. It's not a huge list, C64 support was only added fairly recently.
With the reasonable comes the unreasonable, while you'd want to restrict your employees from advocating killing you the next guy wants to prevent his employees from supporting the party he doesn't vote for.
I shouldn't have to buy a Wii just to play an old C64 game.
Some things are only available on some hardware. Should I have to buy a NES to play NES games? Should I have to buy a Mac to run Mac OS? Should I have to get a PS2 to run PS2 games?
Hell, games are available in stores. You can get packs of 100s of C64 games easily. Not sure about the legality but they are sold in stores and no lawsuits have been filed.

That's where Scotty accounting comes in: "We'll finish in February"
Depends on whether content means locations, monsters, etc or gameplay mechanics.
I think it's more that they have a PUBLISHER who's willing to wait.
How about "A loud bunch of wanna-be game designers with little relevance to the market"?
He's behind the times. These days he should submit "video evidence" that is just a tape with a Rick Astley music video on it.
In that case Heckler & Koch is in the best position for product placement...
The soap box is NOT Slashdot! It's going out on the street and talking to people directly.
I could fork it today and call it VegetableFS.
How about SchiavoFS?

Dude, you can't buy an NES.
Ever heard of fleamarkets or eBay?

Maybe they could play mock battles with guns then, I bet the military would love to sponsor that.
I only played the Quake 3 Arena version of Archon, how did the battles play out in the original?

Yeah, we call that "marketing" these days.
So what would the US have gained from winning Vietnam instead of losing?

Why did they agree to a deal like that?
