It must've been at least 6 or 7 years ago when I read about this technique, and how it was accidentally discovered, in an article. Why has it taken so long to reach the market?
I tried a Mini-ITX Motherboard with an integrated 1Ghz VIA CPU, and I was astounded at how slow the thing was, it runs about the same speed as an old 266mhz laptop I have! Seriously, these low power cpus leave a lot to be desired. I'll never make that mistake again *points to his Core 2 Quad*;)
I think a far more relevant issue, in terms of nuclear power, is WHERE the uranium comes from. Shadey uranium mines in poverty striken countries, where the treatment of the workers is barely moral.
Out of curiosity, what percentage of the internet is still on Dialup?
I find that autoupdates are impossible over a dialup connection so I switch them off. I'm willing to bet that this is the most common reason for people using an old version of Firefox.
Annoying the user seems like a running pattern with anything Microsoft try and make secure.
Windows Live messenger: "This file was a security risk and has been removed", User: "BUT IT WAS AN MP3?!?!"
Windows Vista: *download program* IE7: "Are you sure you want to download?" *click yes... wait...* "File downloaded" *click Run* IE7: "Are you sure you want to run this file?" *click yes* Vista Access Control: "This file is a program and may cause bad things to happen! Are you sure?" User: "ARGH FOR THE THIRD TIME YES I'M SURE"
What I don't understand, is why did they decide to do this now? When they created the internet they must have decided on com/net/org for a reason, rather than letting people just do what they want? What's the reasoning? Money?
Like what others have said, Rockstar, the developers of GTA 4, are a British Company. Before that they were known as DMA design and they also made the legendary Lemmings series. A really talented bunch of people right there.
After the terrible events of WWII, major european countries came together and created the closest thing we have to a constitution, the European Convention of Human Rights. This was ratified in law in 1998 with the Human Rights Act.
But yes, our civil liberties in the UK are eroding, but we do have the same protection as our "USian" cousins. Just their constitution is being just as shredded as our human rights.
I learned BBC Basic on old Acorn Archimedies computers, I always found it very intuitive and consistant in it's structure. A great language.
BBC Basic for Windows is still going too, pretty good product though not really good for anything "serious" in my opinion. But then again, thats Basic for you.
he can average 50MPG if he's careful with it, in a 10 y.o. saturn.
Wow.... clearly SEGA should have moved into the automobile industry.

They do, just councils are desperate to find any means they can to fine people to get extra money.
Come on, he's called Mark Shuttleworth and you didn't make a joke? :(
Unless it turns out that some of the people the BBC hired to make the codec used to work for fraunhofer and thompson...
Judging from this game, it seems that this slogan is as true today as it was 15 years ago.
Portal is a hugely popular game with original puzzle solving gameplay and a humourous narritive.
Puzzle solving isn't dying, it's just changing form what you're used to.

How can the UK be even considering funding this?

Actually made a decent game instead of peddling crap to the masses?
Whats the point of reviews if they can't seperate the good from the bad.

Reminds me of what someone said on a forum once.
"£130 is pretty expensive for Dr Who."
Why don't you just tap all their phone calls they make as well? After all as you're their parent they have no reason to expect any privacy.
If you really want to make sure your kids are happy, build some trust, not a totalitarian environment.

Is still slow. Our radiowaves have barely traveled any distance in intersteller terms.
Microsoft have already released a cutdown version of XP called "Windows Fundamentals". Works great on my old 266mhz laptop.
Sigh, I guess this meme really is dead. Apologies.
Now mod this up or I'm revoking your Slashdot license.
Yeah, until their life starts going down the drain because of their obession with WoW.
The way governments use the "threat" of terrorism is becoming quite a joke.
