This is pretty good news, but I don't see why it's on Slashdot. Unless they tracked down his iPhone or used a cluster of ps3's to guide missiles to his villa.
When I was young I thought there might be something to stories like these, then I grew up and realized that many people are doped up, drunk, compulsive liars or completely bat-shit insane. And some are all of those, all the time.
Even sane people misremember (a lot), and eyewitness stories, especially over time, can change. What people forget or can't remember but have some importance in remembering, they often confabulate - but still believe they are actually memories. People with Alzheimers do this a lot, and can create the appearance to outsiders that they don't have Alzheimers at all.
Well the same can be said about the $.99 song downloads, that's a fair price for a song and a 20 track cd would run you less than $20.
I personally think $0.99 is a lot of money for a single song, and $20 for a whole album is way too much. Also note that only $0.03 of that $0.99 goes to the artist, the rest goes to the record company and Apple.
This coming from the company who grew up on "embrace and extend" practices. Today the only reason why I have dual boot is because some websites that I must access will not work on any Linux browser.
If 3D were perfect, then I think no one would deny that 3D had >= the immersiveness of traditional 2D.
Not to disagree for the sake of disagreeing (although this is/., of course) but I disagree:-p. I find good books more immersive than any 2D films I've seen, and because of that I don't believe (well implemented) 3D will automatically be more immersive than 2D.
"Marketing is used to spy on the customer, reel the customer in using false but sometimes technically legal promises, and keep the customer tied and locked in for as long as possilble with a one sided and very debilitating contract or EULA."
Couldn't we solve this by genetically manipulating ourselves to be the size of capuchin monkeys?
We would only need a fraction of the food we need today. We could live in homes ten times small than we live today, and our energy needs would decrease as well.
Our iphones and androids would become super sized tablets, and our 22" monitors would become big screen tvs. It's a win/win situation!
The Microsoft-created features protected by the patents infringed by the Nook and Nook Color tablet are core to the user experience. For example, the patents we asserted today protect innovations that:
- Give people easy ways to navigate through information provided by their device apps via a separate control window with tabs;
- Enable display of a webpageâ€(TM)s content before the background image is received, allowing users to interact with the page faster;
- Allow apps to superimpose download status on top of the downloading content;
- Permit users to easily select text in a document and adjust that selection; and
- Provide users the ability to annotate text without changing the underlying document.

I'm a European ignorant of Groupon. Looking at the site, it seems to be a site that catalogs or shows discount coupons for stores and items. Is that what it is? I understand it can make money, but how could it become so successful?
Now, if they were really serious about busting the perp, they'd administer a hair test! Of course the cape would go dark for lack of employees shortly thereafter
I'm thinking the Captain Picard look would pick up quickly among NASA employees.
You're right, people will pirate even if items cost $0.01. But those are a select few, very few. The habit of pirating will decrease as well.
I used to pirate everything until I grew a bit older and obtained a cumbersome conscience. I haven't pirated a game in years because the prices in online sales (http://deals4downloads.com) are very low (up to 80% off) and just as convenient to download as pirating a game. The only problem remaining is DRM, although a minimum level of DRM always has to remain as a first detergent.
There is no convenient way for me to buy and download films or music for a reasonable price, so I pirate them. I don't say that as a justification for my actions, but as the plain motivation I have. If films were $3 and music was $.25 per song, I'd buy tons.
In short, you'll never eradicate piracy, and I don't think that goal should be sought after (what the big corps are doing now). Instead, bring it down to as low as possible. If you were to combine low pricing with watermarking protection, I think you're close to the ideal situation for both consumers and corporations.
I don't use FF or Chrome so I honestly ask which one of those are FUD? I've always treated comparison matricies with suspicion of the cherry picked features shown.
I can only agree with one of the points: Compatibilty. More websites are compatible with IE than any other browser; this is true. All other points are, in my opinion, false, fabricated or complete lies.
Even the points where Chrome and FF got a nice green tick get FUD in the explanation! Not one point other than the one I mentioned is at all true, or even has any supporting foundation - and the writers know this (which is what pisses me off most).

The RAM usage in FireFox isn't a bug, and there are things you can do to make it use less RAM:
I'm afraid I have some old documentation I need to update to prevent people from going places they shouldn't be going..
Maybe they got lost in time, and have been trying to get together 1.21 billion Chinese people to wear these shoes so they can get back.
Just a thought..

So, is this technically a DOS attack?

I think $0.25 is a reasonable price for a song.
Linux already is a significant threat to Microsoft, otherwise they wouldn't care. Not on the desktop mind you, but server side.
Have you had a look at The Android Scripting environment?
Not even with wine + IE ?
Isn't this exactly the same what they said about the internet in the nineties?
People are so paranoid these days! It takes only five minutes to translate if you think outside the box:

Fixed. You're welcome.
I'm not sure that will do it. Just to be safe, we should use silver bullets and drive a stake through its chest.

Any volunteers for testing?

What about:

This could work only if those in charge as well as all the corporations would also be completely transparent.
