I went from openSUSE with XFCE to Debian with XFCE and I still hae the habit of trying to things the openSUSE way. Not because it is worse or better, but because that is what I am used to.
That said, the only thing that stops people from using Linux on their desktop is pre-install. And I mean have it pushed down their throath just like Windows is now.
People will start using WIndws 10 when they buy a new machine and curse because the Icon looks different. The majority of people, even professional users; do not install their own OS. They use what is on their pc when they buy it or what the IT department put on it or what their boss tells them to use.
The few that don't are such a minority that nobody really cares.
That works IF the CxO also follows those rules. Sometimes they will just try to overstep the rules, because they know what is going on and they need it NOW!!!
That happens more than you care to think about.

The demand for Uber is price. If there are two things for sale and one is cheaper than the other, they tend to get a higher demand.
The thing with Uber is that they try to not follow the law, so they can be cheaper.

Now suddenly I start selling food for half the price. I don't call it food, but I call it 'eatable enjoyment' and I say that because it isn't food, I do not have to follow the same rules. So I undercut everybody.
And why would they people drive for Uber? Because they can start driving right away and they are lied to that it is legal.
There were and are illegal taxi drivers all over the world, they now just have a semi-legal excuse of being legal.
That all said, technically I think Uber is a great idea. However with many taxi-companies in a city, the owners do not want to work together with the competition, regardless of the positive result that it would bring.
Not sure if they even are allowed to give any information to the banks. There are serious restrictions on what can and what can not be done due to privacy laws in Europe.
I know that where I am, we would NOT be allowed to inform the banks of our customers doing, besides; well, nothing. We could send a general message to them, but that is where it stops and I assume that has been done.
And the bank can not take action because of a third part who says something. Also due to privacy reasons.
Otherwise any disgrunteld person could call and say whatever about my account. So even though it sounds stupid that people must solve this themseves, it is not.
What might even happen is that they send the info of the breach to the bank and then the bank can contact the customer, if they want to. However the official stand would ALWAYS be "have an issue with you bank? Contact your bank." In no way can one company take action in name of another.
And what about the saved Credit Card information? This is most likely due to the fact that people want to have their monthly payments done by Credit Card.
If only there was a way to have an objective party decide who is right and who is wrong. You could even extend it to other situations where there is a dispute between people . And even (I am just fanasizing now) when people who did something that the majority didn't lieke.
e.g. if you take something that does not belong to you, instead of having the townspeople go after you, have an independent person listen to you and listen to the other party and then decide what needs to be done IF you are guilty. (A bit opposite of what Tumblr does.)
So, and this would be an enourmous strech of your imagination, have people be innocent untill they are proven guilty. (OK, perhaps only the common people. It would be ridiculous to not believe the Gentlemen on their word of honor.)

That vacation thing is something rioght from '7 habits for highly effective people'. If it mean 'the top 10 can go' it is stupid. What he suggests should happen is that EVERYBODY who exceeds their target should be able to go.
That way the high scoring memebers are not threatend by the rest and will be willing to help the others receive their goals, resulting in an overall higher performance as a whole.
Because if I can' t win even when I get 120% of my target, why would I bother with the 20% extra? I can just stop at 100%.
And when I see we are both almost able to go, but only one can, I will make sure that you can't go and you will not help me so I can't go.
Make it possible for the both of us to goi, and I wall help you and you will help me.

In general I see no difference between people with or without children. The main difference I see is: a) they are allowed to pick the holidays first. Not a real issue as people without kids don't want them during the high season anyway. b) They take some of those holdays when their children are sick. Also not a real issue
If you work in a depertment where you might be on call, all will be treated equaly and they work around the kids somehow.
So do not blame others for you doing after hour work. If it becomes a problem, to me that means that it happens so often that it is either because of poor planning in staffing or because they staff too low to save money or both.
When you get double payment when you do overtime, then it is poor planning. If you don't get payed anything; then it is money. Why give the monkey two peanuts if he does the same tricks for one.
So again: I am single. I have no kids. I am not available after hours. (Unless unforseen situations that happen perhaps once every two years, if that.And even then I have seen parents step up as well.)

The cleanliness I experience with car sharing is way better than what I did with my own car. It is also cheaper (depending on the miles you do). I doubt it will reduce traffic, as most cars are standing still somewhere. People who are on the road will not reduce.
I believe it could be a great solution between public transport and private owned cars. The disadvantage of public transport is the tme from door to door.
An example: I live 25KM from work. Due to trafix it would take 1.5 hours. When I look at the train; it would take 25 minutes. However I need to get to the train and from the train to where I am. I also need to start working at a specific time. So those 25 minutes turn into 1 hour. And I am mucky, as I have a train every 15 minutes.
The reason is that there need to be many people on a train to make it work. Autonomous cars could take 4 people from the same place to the same place. This could reduce travel time by 25% or 15 minutes to the hour.
OTOH when I now want to go shopping, I need to add 20 minutes to get to the car and back. Autonomous cars would solve that as well.
So it could be a great in between. Over a whole I am extremely happy with the amout of money I save with http://cambio.be/ The cars are newer, cleaner and better maintained then my car was since I drove it out of the dealership.
It is a great addition to what you have, it does not need to be a replacement (perhaps for your second car it can be)
Most of the cars are parked somewhere. Congestion happens with those cars that are not parked. So even if we ASLL shared our cars, people would still have to go somewhere.
I do car sharing not for enviromental reasons, but for financial reasons. I take public transport and only used my car to go shopping once a week. Many people instead of having a second car could benefit from car sharing.
I do not believe there is an OR/OR solution. I think there might be an AND/AND solution.
And about the filth: the cars are cleaner then my cars ever where after day two. This is not a public bathroom and as you know who was in the car when, it is pretty easy to find out who made the mess and let them pay for cleanup.
Aas a meat lover, I HATE when animals are abused. It spoils the meat. I would LOVE that they masasage each animal so the quality of the meat becomes better in taste and texture. Unfortunately we, as a whole, vote with our wallets and cheaper meat is what we want, so cheaper meat is what is provided.

Even if there was no malware, I do not like advertisements. I understand why they are there but that does not mean I like them.
