Never used a self-checkout. All it is is about dumping the people working the registers so management can get a bigger bonus. Thanks but no thanks. I like that those people have a job. No reason to take it away from them and all it could cost is a few minutes of my time a week.

I tried the ones where you walk around with a scanner just to see what the fuzz was about and what it does is let you stay in the store longer. Time you spend in the store is extremely important as it is directly related to turnover and thus profit.

Supermarkets have a huge range of doing sales. The ONLY way to avoid all the tricks a supermarket trows at you is very high tech. It is called a "shopping list". Make it before you go and best not if you are hungry. Stick to it no matter what. NO MATTER WHAT. You see a huge saving? Look at your list and if it isn't on there, do NOT buy it.

I would hate it that the screen changes just because I sit differently. Do NOT change the layout. There is a reason why the layout is as I have it. And my reasons are mine alone. I am sure you can NOT program them in a general calculation, even though they are very simple:
3 screens with 6 workspaces each. No Xinerama. Each screen as fixed programs on launching XFCE.

I am not sure if this will be equally or even more annoying as Copiz and other 3D stuff.
Nice to see once for about 10 seconds and after that I would like to shoot the screen and buy Windows.

I am for sure not going to use it and it is a pity that people waste time at things like this while there are much more important things requesting developers.

Just use white lists on all PCs and place some 'general access' in the food area.

All the proxy server needs to do is provide the user a page where his username is confirmed and a field as to why he would need access. Access is then automagically granted for that site and the site placed in a grey list.
Once in a while somebody will check the grey list and add the sites in either black or white list.

If a site is on the black list, a more 'official' request could place it on the white list.

This all would have the advantage that users are very aware of the fact that they will be logged if they go to a strange site. That means that if there is a question, people will have most likely a trace as of why they thought it was a good idea to go to goatse. So there already is a sort of social control.
