Is it really the fault of pirates for the lack of success of PS:T? Or maybe since it was such a non-comprising game, it attracted few people outside of the hardcore RPG crowd that you mention? I don't know either way, but I would like to see some data on this.
In the past when European courts and regulators have required Microsoft to document their protocols they have done so only with a licence agreement designed to exclude free software such as Samba. After you pay your ten thousand euros, are you then free to implement the specification in free software? This is the crucial point and one that the article didn't mention.
Excuse me for not trusting a mad religious crack-pot dictator with an apocalyptic world view not to use a nuclear program to leverage his position in the world, and intimidate or harm "the great Satan"
...if you replace "dictator" with "president" and "the great Satan" with "the rest of the world", you have a fair representation of how pretty much the entire world feels about the U.S.
The goal of the Arpanet was to provide resilient packet forwarding in the presence of multiple node failures. However, the Arpanet model does assume that at any given moment there is end-to-end connectivity between the two communicating endpoints. DTNs do not assume that there is necessarily *ever* a direct, end-to-end connection between communicating endpoints. DTNs are store-and-forward networks, much like email or UUCP, they don't look anything like Arpanet or the Internet.
I agree completely! Even after repeated playthroughs, the depth of the game still impresses me. Check out all the conversations that JC had with various NPCs to see the impressive breadth of the game.
Case in point: KDE and Gnome both put a lot of work into eye candy, and justifiably so, but neither can give me a list of all the wireless networks around my computer in just 2 clicks in a default setup - but Windows can. I'd imagine OS X
probably could too.
I'm running NetworkManager on Ubuntu that gives precisely this functionality. Also it can automatically switch between wired and wireless networks.

Does wikipedia work with HTTPS Everywhere now? I had to disable it because of all the 404 error messages I was getting.
Same here. Been waiting for ages. I'm starting to think that they'll never arrive apart from bundled with 3G contracts from mobile operators. Shame...
NVIDIA's Tegra 2 chipset provides hardware acceleration for video playback, allowing such devices to playback up to 1080p content. Clip here:

Excellent summary of the facts, thank you.
Agree 100%. It's a phenomenal book.

I couldn't agree more without hurting myself!
Great post, thanks.
Brilliant post, very succinct and well-argued. Thanks!
Very interesting article, thanks for posting.
I can't agree more without actually hurting myself!
I second that, Martial Arts are the absolute business. Just be sure to look out for the people trying to rip you off:

Mod parent up! If these points were seriously addressed in Ubuntu, we'd be a long way towards world domination.
Harry Harrison was one of my favourite authors when I was kid. The Stainless Steel Rat books were excellent!

You're citing the leading Free Market cheerleader because you disklike the bias of the "ronpaulesque anti-corporate attitude" in the comments?

FYI:
In addition, it will also allow the data to go to open source software developers.
dammit, I almost sprayed my morning coffee all over my machine after reading that one! :-)
Even under Stalin, scientific free thought was encouraged, it was economic and political free thought that was curtailed.
What about this guy?.

I agree, I still haven't seen anything with such a great combination of action and depth since.

Also, Fallout 1 & 2 gave me similar vibes.
Love the quote in your sig. Deus Ex is a truely amazing game! :-)
