If it weren't for XP these netbooks might have SSDs and 2GB RAM. If you could REALLY get a linux netbook it would have these things and perform even better. Plus Ubuntu netbook 10.10 sucks, I wish they would have used 10.04, which is to me much better. Perhaps Jolicloud would be a better comparison as well.
For those who havn't used Autodesk's software, they are the microsoft of the CAD world. Their software is only popular because it of its wide spread use and the difficulty of converting software. AutoCAD makes IE look cutting edge and great to work with, and is probably one of the most bloated format's I've seen. Inventor, now on release 10, is still an incomplete product compared to other 3D software and Mechanic Desktop makes me want to draw on an etch-a-sketch.
I've got tons of these around the house, probably more then the average. Chargers are one big problem, electronics are another. The two that annoy me most are the stereo(does a stupid light show unless you push the stop button, then just has a smaller light show) and the cable box(is supposedly off, but still gets "messages" from the cable company).
These facts have been out for years. Ethanol is a political tool pushed by money makers like ADM. It's government subsidized, and most people don't realize it.
Another few fun ethanol facts:
Fuel economy drops with ethanol due to lower energy content. It may look cheaper, but you burn more of it. Ethanol varnishes fuel systems and is hard on small engines. In MN (the only state to require 10% ethanol.) there are tons of small engine shops that will tell you they get tons of business from cleaning out carbs and fuel systems.
A study that I read a few years back stated that there was not enough fertile land in the US to supply our gasoline needs with ethanol. Granted this report is now several years old, but our needs have gone up since then.
Perhaps this is a problem with data supplier to all the map sites, but the last few addresses I've looked up showed up on the wrong side of the highway. They've all been along highway 169 in Minnesota, and they've all showed a completely wrong location.
I tried one of them(my work) on google and the results are the same.
"If Henry Ford didn't invent the assembly-line production model, someone else would have invented it in the following decade."
Henry Ford didn't invent the assembly line, it was around long before his time. He was the first to apply the concept to the entire production of the automobile.
I disagree. I don't blame Microsoft for not helping people that are running pirate software. Allow me to reword.
People who now use a pirate copy will chose to continue to run an OS with security holes or buy a legal copy if they want to keep windows. It seems the worse the security problems, the more likely said people would buy the legal copy. In a normal market it seems people would be much more likely to move to a different OS.
They also raised the price for many customers this month. I got the service as part of a package including digital cable (TV) and phone service. This was advertised at $99 and I was specifically told it was not a promotion but a regular price. I even saw advertisements highlighting the fact that it was not a sale or promotion. Then 6 months later I get a notice telling me that the "promotion" is over and my rates would increase approximately $30, effectively eliminating any advantage for running all three services.
Sorry the small increase in speed was not worth it.
Or they could have Adblock installed, and didn't see the add.
I don't think that it's too devastating for the ad companies, but I think it will encourage them to change their ads to an acceptable format. Popup ads are not an acceptable form of advertisement. Google ads aren't blocked on my Firefox, but almost everything else is.
Well their current browser is basically the Mozilla suite with a bunch of adware like the weather channel stuff. I tried downloading it and was very turned off.
I was thinking, since Mozilla is trying to get more recognized and look more professional, having the website go down when a new release comes out is kind of bad. Perhaps when they come out with a new release they should put it up for download before announcing it. That way Mozilla enthusiasts can get their copy first and Slashdot the site, before the general public comes to the site. This way it takes the hit off of the site when the unknowing people visit.
Think about the average Joe. He's see this news story about a great new browser, but when he goes to the site, it doesn't work. That really takes a lot out of the hype. When he hears about a new IE or AOL "release" the site is always up.
The only time I've ever seen this happen is when I "upgraded" my father's computer from Windows ME to 98. Before I had the correct drivers installed and it was displaying in 16 colors, Firefox wouldn't load, but Mozilla would. Probably something to do with the display hardware or software.
I use to use Terraformer, but their images were so outdated.(most from 1991) The link doesn't seem to work though. If it is similar to this it would be great.
I thought of this last time I visited Northern Minnesota. Years ago Northern Minnesota had a prosperous economy based on Iron Ore and taconite mining. Slowly the mining stopped, and most people were left without jobs. The "Iron Range" still has quite a few people living on government assistance because of this. These people would gladly work for a fraction of the salary of city workers, and it's got to be cheaper than the phone costs for overseas tech support. Other companies, such as Blue Cross Blue Shield of MN have moved jobs such as claims examiners up there, why not tech support?
I have to believe for most the "Fargo" accent is easier to understand than an Indian one.
I agree. Trying to compete with Microsoft by making products that only run on Microsoft is not a good idea. By offering products compatible with most or all platforms means you can always come out on top, no matter which platform becomes the most popular. Tying your products to one company ties your success to that company.

Otherwise I agree with your point.

Talk about using your worst problem to your advantage. Now security holes sell windows. It's amazing what a monopoly can do isn't it?

Let's see:
"Minimum system requirements for Windows AntiSpyware (Beta):
-Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server(TM) 2003"
Nope not for me.

Spellbound has always worked for me. It worked in 1.0 PR and in 1.0 final. Some of the other extensions and themes aren't updated yet though.

Well at least one person didn't mod it as funny, they modded it "overrated".
Seems to me a program that is only 5MB downloaded is going to be easier to patch then one that's "update" is 25MB+.
Bottom line is that IE's security problems aren't 100% a result of it's popularity.
Actually I meant Terraserver. I always get them screwed up.
I use to use Terraformer, but their images were so outdated.(most from 1991) The link doesn't seem to work though. If it is similar to this it would be great.
The poster implies that he wants no frills like toilets, I believe he meant no frills when it comes to the toilets.
You can set your file extensions to use Firefox or Mozilla instead, and all html, jpegs, ect will be opened by Firefox/Mozilla.
Waht eevr hpnaeend to the tehory taht we olny rcgnezoie the frist and lsat lteter or ecah wrod?

Why don't they send them in the mail for free like the CDs. Seems like a marketing strategy change to me.
