i currently live in china, computer repairs can be done for a fraction of the cost and piracy is so rampant that virus software exsists for us$0.50 same with the latest windows version.

not only that, on the servers on the chinese backbone, they are tested once a week by chinatelecom for openrelays and if found they are portblocked untill the owner does something, this can be a pain if you run a smtp node in a cluster who accepts mail for the domain and then sends out an failed email if the address doesn't exsist. i'm not sure if this is good or bad, all we need now is for them to take out the site harvesters.

i learnt html using dreamweaver, it was a pain and i didn't understand why things were showing differently, then css was developed and still i used dreamweaver wysiwyg features and still didn't understand why things were showing differently, i then fell in love with css2 and started really using it, i switched from the wysiwyg to code view over night and really got dirty with it, i still use dreamweaver in code view and never have on the wysiwyg mode simply because my code looks nicer, but the main point is, if i can't remember a css name i'll jump into the css editor in dreamweaver and click the option i was trying to remember.

i really like the eclipse project with its auto compleation and its indenting and colouring but i have no problem falling into notepad to edit or ee :) (yes ee!)

i'll speak from my years of experiance with page layout, first thing i do when i get a document to lay out is to copy and paste it into notepad, then i use the replace feature and replace " " with a " " then i will convert the quotes and finally i'll remove the soft-returns and replace double returns with a single return and then i'll run a spell checker.

and thats to get the text in a format i can start laying out with, then once its in my layout i'll do tracking a kerning and forced returns if need be by hand. thats after i've applied all the formatting styles from my style sheets

now, i'f i'm working in chinese i'll copy and paste into notepad, replace all numbers with a real number (funny numbers in chinese) replace the " " with a " " replace , . ' " -- with the chinese version and then copy and paste that into wordpad and then into my document.

    if only they knew!
