FTA: 'PoE could end up being a universal power supply system as the cables and connectors for it are the same all over the world. By contrast power sockets and plugs differ by country.'
This may be true, however not all places use PoE, so you would still have to lug around an injector that may not be compatible with the country you're in.
Also, what happens when more people convert to Gigabit? What if there's no Ethernet drop available, just WiFi?
Neat concept maybe, but somewhat behind the times IMHO.
I can already say that Open Office, for as nice as it is, cannot load MS Word files that have embedded jpeg images. Even the latest beta versions have this problem.
Really? That's strange...I'm using a beta of OOo 2 (1.9.93 to be precise) and I just opened a doc from a colleague with a jpeg in it. Seems to work just fine here.
Actually, yes, I do think it is a good idea. In fact, I plan on branching out my business to do just that (right now we're an outsourcing firm for small businesses).
I was thinking of making them mini-itx based to keep down cost (and noise).
Looks like I should get this going sooner rather than later...sounds like I just missed a sale:(
You don't need IE for that. You can do that in custy old Windows Explorer (explorer.exe)
If you don't believe me, go to Start > Run... and type in a server. Or better yet, open an explorer window (Win+E) and type the server address there. I've always used this without any problems. In fact, I never knew you could do it in IE.
Those are some interesting new features, quite innovative actually.
However, I would be much more interested in hearing how X is being made smaller and faster.
Xserver seems to be a nice continuation of Kdrive since the fork, but it is still lagging behind a full Xorg installation. Most X users are not serving up desktops to thin clients, and only need a full install for things like hardware acceleration and multihead support.
I would think a small and fast X would greatly benefit desktop adoption, and if any of you have tried Kdrive on modern equipment, it more than feels snappier, it is.
That's exactly what I was thinking. Hook this up as an extension on my Asterisk box, and I wouldn't need my cell when I head out to most of my customer's sites. The only thing that would make this better if it was WiFi capable, and legal to operate in the U.S.;)
No, it is a type of ammunition that is bludgeoning, fired from an Exotic weapon. I don't know about you, but I can think of much better ways to spend a feat. Plus, it's generally a bad idea to fire one of those off at close range, unless you're the type that likes to drop Meteor Swarm on your party.;)
In fact, MTV sometimes airs uncensored videos at odd hours of the night and there is nothing the right wing can do about it but complain to the advertisers.
That is completely untrue. It has been years since MTV has shown videos.
Why not just chmod 660 directory that contains the file? If the directory is unreadable by those without permission, it can't be viewed or indexed. Just be wary of whom you're giving permission to where like you already (should) be doing. There's no need to add another file attribute.
I am primarily a *nix admin, however I have had to assist Windows admins from time to time, and my biggest question is this: How come there is no useful information in the Event Viewer logs? At my place of work we have a particularly unstable Windows 2003 server, and whenever it goes down, I can never find any useful information as to why. As for the servers I'm primarily responsible for, I've had one die (due to my own mistake), but I was able to figure out what had happened thanks to the nice ASCII-encoded log files. Is there any hope for something as simple and elegant as this for Windows? I'm tired of the crappy Event Viewer pointing to a KB article, which in turn tells me to check the Event Viewer.:(
This is exactly why I believe that the infrastucture should be government owned in this case, while access to the infrastucture is up to private corps. Better profit margins for them, since none has to go into infrastructure, just last-mile. However, a gov. owned system probably would've only been possible while it was being built, or during the time when the Rural Electrification Administration was providing funds to expand infrastructure in the '40s and '50s.
From my own personal experience, I have had stability issues with previous versions of Mandrake. YMMV. My boss is the only one I know who is running SUSE, and she really likes it. By the time I heard all the great things that is SUSE, I had graduated to Slackware, and now Gentoo. If you're not having any problems, there is no reason to change, unless you want to try new things....
As the security administrator of a small liberal arts college, this switch has probably made the largest impact on desktop support issues. Unfortunately, you can't fully remove IE, but removing shortcuts seems to be good enough to prevent most end users from using it. The other consideration is that many sites use IE-specific extensions, which breaks how Firefox renders the page. For example, we use Exchange with the Outlook web client for student email access and web access. The client is useable with Firefox, but some features, like the check name applet, does not work. A desktop url opened in IE is our workaround...
I guess my point is that you really need to review which web apps and sites your users want to access to truly weigh the pros and cons. In our case, the benefits were greater, and we made the transition as gracefully as possible. I know the parent means well, but sometimes the solution isn't that easy.
Is there any way to apply my mod points to a story title?
While the title may be -1, Offtopic (or +5, Funny, depending on your current state of mind), the optical illusions are very cool. Very vertigo-inducing, however.
Well, considering that is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1/10th of the words estimated to be in the English language, there are quite a few not in the list.
The actualnumbervaries by source however, estimated between approximately 800,000 and 1,000,000 words.

Honestly though, weren't there more laws in place regarding large media conglomerates (or the prevention of) about four years ago? Hmm, I wonder how we might go about chaning that....

Considering this product is still being sold as eComStation, I don't think we'll be seeing an open source version from IBM any time soon...
You were probably being facetious, but my company's firewall blocks any incoming sarcasm.

Free mini Mac. You know you want one...

Free Mac? Here's hoping...
I would *SO* mod you up right now if I had the points. Some people's children....
Now, we wouldn't wan to offend anyone, especially our silicon-based microprocessor-controlled friends.
Oh and to curtail anyone who doesn't catch one of the many references...

Saying things are 'gay' is like calling something 'nigger rigged'.
ahem...I beileve the PC term for that is Afro-engineered.
oh yeah, I'm going to hell for that.

Terrorists fly planes, not you
Nice try, but I think what you mean was:
In Soviet Russia, Sport-planes fly YOU!
