  1. Re:Why have external mem cards? on Sony Adopts Blu-ray Disc PlayStation 3 · · Score: 1

The purpose of extrenal memory cards is to make it possible to take your saved games with you.

For example, if you go to a friend's house and want to take Timesplitters 2 with you, you want to bring your memory card with you because it has all of the unlocked goodies on it. Otherwise, you will have to start from scratch (which really sux).

I had something more aesthetically pleasing in mind than a PDA with an expansion slot. As I mentioned before, each piece would be able to function on its own. I would design each piece to be flat like a small calculator. They would be stacked like a deck of cards to connect to each other in any configuration the user sees fit. They would also auto-detect each other, network together and share resources.

Unlike the HandSpring Visor, you wouldn't have to juggle around modules, being able to use only one at a time. You could use any or all of them at once and as I mentioned before, each could stand alone, unlike the Visor which needed a core unit.

Anyways, thats my design idea. Maybe I should patent it or something. :-P

2600, 5200, Intellivision, Coleco nostalgia I can see... As well as NES, of course... But wasn't the 7800 a terrible flop? Eh. Good luck, Atari. You'll need it. Nintendo can sell us Excitebike, Zelda and Super Mario again because they always were and will be great games. Anything that could be considered "great" on the 2600 was only because we didn't have anything better.

I know I'll probably get modded for being offtopic, but there is a comparable mini-console for NES games. They have a kiosk over the mall near where I live, I think the device is called "SuperJoy" or something like that. Anyways, its $50 and claims to have 2000 NES games built in (in reality its closer to 100 or so games). It comes with 2 gamepads and a lightgun. Everytime I pass their display, I'm tempted to buy one. I'm sure if you google "Superjoy" or "PowerJoy", you might find one of these gray market devices.

Recently when I was over there, I noticed that have a new device they are selling. It's a stand-alone DDR pad (also $50), but the stupid thing is 8-bit and I can't imagine who would want to play DDR to old midi music. :-P

  18. Re:Secret Laws, Secret Courts, What happened to US on Government Asks Court to Keep ID Arguments Secret · · Score: 1

That would not be such a wrong thing to do. What America needs, is a multi party system, with parties having public balance books and vastly reduced and law-enforced budgets, that come from the government, and are based on the number of voters for that party. Dompanies helping or donnating to the party would be considered highly illegal, and all campaign spending should be officially declared.

I agree, but how do we (as American citizens) break up this Duopoly that runs our country? I think Perot was the only person that close enough to threatening its existance so they swiftly destroyed his credibility. Same thing happened with Nader. Immediately after announcing his running for president, the republicans started to get people to think of him as a joke, whereas the democrats started calling him a 'spoiler' and went after him with litegation, anytime he made any progress (I'm not much of a Nader fan but I hope you can see where I'm going with this).

IMHO, I think both parties are really working as one. They still pretend to be separate just to distract us with their promises/lies. They both point fingers at each other when things go wrong, when in reality as our so-called leaders. They are equally responsible. I have yet to see a politician truly take responsibility for any wrongs they have made against our country. But then, they would get voted out of office and lose all that money and power.

When they get tired of pointing fingers at each other, they start blaming the media, claiming the other party controls the whole thing. Yes, I know the media isn't with some bias, but this whole thing that the liberals or conservatives control the whole media is ridiculous, more smoke and mirrors.

Then there is the whole talk radio thing. They are there to get people riled up and destract them from the ugly truths I mentioned above. Each side takes turns seeing who can shout the loudest and get more people (who already sway their way or are total against them) riled up.

'Freedom' as the politicians like to call it, is just an illusion. If they don't like you have to say, you will be silenced. If you aren't part of the upper class, you will be ignored or squashed. They go out of their way to make sure that lower class or middle-class Americans never make it to the upper-class and if by some miracle, you do, you better follow their rules or they will take it all away from you.

Or perhaps, one time events that are triggered by entering certain areas or doing certain things. None of this preset adventures that anyone can go through at anytime stuff(aside from maybe training for noobs).

Also, giving a player complete control of a starship seems ridiculious. They should make them have to have an entire (bridge) crew to run a big ship. Shuttles could get away with a one or two person crew.

Then there's the concept of logging in/out. How will that work? You can't have your Captain or some other vital crewman suddenly falls asleep. Would you have command automatically goto the next ranking officer? What happens if the ship you're on gets destroyed while you are logged off? Do you die or do you automatically end up in an escape pod?

If your character does get killed, what happens to your character? This isn't a D&D type world, there isn't resurection in this environment. I could understand the concept of having auto-escape pods for destroyed ships, but what happens if you are vaporized by a phaser or decapitated by a klingon's blade? Do they just have you wake up in some infirmiry or do they make you start from scratch?
