  2. Re:wireless internet? on Nintendo DS Review and Internal Pictures · · Score: 1

I can't speak for Nintendo and say I'm positive about how the insides of the DS work, but I do know that the DS contains two processors: an ARM9 and an ARM7. The ARM7 was the core CPU in the GBA, although it is runnning at a higher clock rate in the DS. I'd bet my right leg that when you play a GBA game on the DS, the ARM7 just "downshifts" into GBA mode in order to present GBA games with the exact same instruction set, timing, etc.

I have also heard speculation(or was it official from Nintendo? Can't recall...) that the GBA port could/would be used for additional accessories in the future. Well, even if Nintendo doesn't come through with that idea, at least there's the GBA Movie Player, which has been confirmed to work in the DS.

I'd say that 6-10 hours estimate is pretty accurate. I've been playing my DS for 2+ hours every day since launch day(after one full charging), and the batteries just now champed out today. Haven't been using WiFi though, or wireless at all really, since I haven't gotten to play much with anyone else with a DS.

I just picked one up today. The DS kinda snuck up on me, I didn't even know about it until a few months ago. While one reason I got is because I trust Nintendo to support the hardware well and release the best first-party games(as well as developer support from companies like Sega), the real reason I wanted one is the potential of the hardware crammed into this little package. There is already a pretty good community of amatuer Game Boy Advance development using flash cartridges and neat doodads like the GBA Movie Player. I beleive that a lot more could be done with the capabilities of the DS. A touch screen, integrated wireless networking, microphone, and 3D hardware in a handheld system for $150? Think of the possibilities...PDA functions, web browser, MP3 player, emulators, homebrew 3d games...

There was a site recently called DSLinux that claimed they would give $1000 to the first person who could successfully run Linux on the DS...unfotunately, the site seems to be no more...while I find that odd and a bit disheartening, I hope others will take up where they left off. After all, wouldn't it be so much more fun to hack on a sleek portable system like this than a clunky XBox that can't do that much more than your average low end PC?

Precisely. Distributors of content do not take advantage of the full capacity of modern storage media, in order to derive higher profit margins. For example, an anime series that I like with 6 episodes sells at Suncoast on 3 DVDs, with 2 episodes per disc. The episodes are 25 MINUTES LONG, and the discs do not come with much in the way of extra features. The DVDs individually sell for $40, making the entire series over $100. I do not have disposable income to buy into this ridiculous scam. Suprnova, here I come.

Insightful?? What the hell is this? Have things changed since 5.05?

I use Winamp exclusively for my media playing needs and I have seen nary an AOL icon anywhere. If you choose the Classic skin during install, the interface you are presented with is not radically different than Winamp 2.0. I find it rather simple and intuitive, and there are always keyboard commands as well.

Yes, it has lots of features - that's one of the reasons I like it. It's hardly bloated, at least compared to other big-name media players on Windows like WMP and iTunes.

And spyware? I'm scratching my head. Where did you find the spyware in Winamp? You don't mean that anonymous statistics logging that is brought to your attention during install and can easily be disabled, do you? That's the only thing in Winamp I can see that could be conceivably described as 'spyware.'
