I can see how this thing would work out in an industrial setting (like patrolling a warehouse), but I can't see the average home user dropping their $$ for one. The thing would go apesh!t everytime you burn the toast!
In the aftermath of yesterday's gruesome terrorist attack, I'd like to recommend that we fly black ad banners on our sites for a few days in memory of the victims and their families.
Just sitting back and waiting for Doug Englebart to call the patent police on this one! (that is, after they're finished with the whole "one-click ordering" hullaballoo...
In the photo, it looks like the plexiglass goes all the way around from top to bottom. As long as the footprint is > or = the top diameter (which it appears to be) it should be pretty sturdy. Also the guts of the cube look like they take up the upper 2/3 of the thing, preventing it from being truly top-heavy.
We have one here at the University of Virginia Center for Advanced Computational Tech. at NASA Langley. It's kinda neat the first few times, but there's the nagging problem of getting things to wrap around the corners of the room properly. To replace it, we've invested in ARC's VisionDome. Ooooooo...:-)
Sorry to hear about the house, Hemos. Glad you guys are okay, though. I'll gladly donate a partition of my Linux box if you guys need anything mirrored or served.

Nah. Fishburne is pretty much built like a Sequoia trunk anyway.
Add to that list the 16ft Transonic tunnel at Langley.
