I agree, my god, don't tell them about SMS or instant chat clients like skype, msn messanger etc... And these people are the ones running our governments. This is when I wish fantasy was reality, and that all top agencies in the world were more like what we see on 24 with Jack Bawer then this!
I will reiterate, this comes from unix, they took lines of code from unix without rewriting, and took it as theirs. This means their software was already pre-developed. Windows on the other hand, didn't quite do that, although they are guilty of repackaging the same thing over and over, there is no such thing as a rewrite from scratch as they would have you believe.
I can create my own flavor of linux, with all the code coming over from the "generic pool" of developed stuff from *nix, and add 500 billion $ of advertising, does that mean it cost me 500 billion$ to develop the software???
I do not agree , and this is just my opinion.
"The best way to predict the future is to invent it"
We were talking about the OS , not Visual studio or office, and when they say they rewrite code for 64 bit extension or a new server technology, they never do from scratch they just keep developing better and bigger wrappers for those original win32apis we all know and love.
As well, we were not talking about marketing, as this does not count towards the cost of DEVELOPING a software, only making it known. As for third party drivers etc... like I said, those were made by someone else for M$ therefor not directly a cost to M$ development of the OS.
I still think they throw numbers that sound very high and great to make it a ploy for either accounting (tax breaks from gov.) or marketing...."look we spent THIS much, so it must be good!"
I agree, the mexcians take naps at noon, in europe they close shops for 2 hour lunches to come back later and finish later... We could just adapt by changing our routine and not the law of physics.
First of all, take into consideration ALL the lines of code that came from Unix as a given freebie that should not be calculated, remove all the vendor drivers created by the vendor and not the OS people, as this is not included in the cost of knowing how Windows costs, so why do it in Linux as well (unless they have rewritten them...)
Also remove all the sofwtares that come into play that come from third party but are not really part of the OS. Let's say KDE or Gnome or Grub or Lilo. These were made for any distro by xyz person not currently employed by Fedora to actually cut a paycheck for...
Now how much we talking about. Don't get me wrong, I am a penguin lover, but I just hate to see that now Fedora is getting in on the blinders game of misrepresentation of their products that we have gotten used to from M$ We don't need another M$ machine, stick with being good guys, loving their penguins(whatever flavor)
This si where it is up to the AV vendors to stop taking our money for nothing, and actually get a list of hash sums for each of the dlls used by let's say filezilla software, or firefox software etc.... for each of the version, that way when they check the file system dlls for code that should not be there, they only have to do checksums, this is the point of tripwire (linux).
Then after that, you need a sandbox environment(a la VMWare) to work with softwares that do little things. Open a word document in a sandbox environment, and see if any of those signatures change the overall checksum for the system, if this passes, then the document can be opened in the real world computer and not the virtual one, as it contains no virus code to execute.
This of course would have a great overhead, but would not be that different then running an AV that already takes 80% of your cpu anyways!!!
Or we could just bomb them again and maybe include all the people in our cross hairs that asked for this man's death for wanting more rights for women in his country....then maybe they might get the true meaning of the message they are trying to promote themselves
On a related note, my Azareus client seems to be much slower and asks more upload then allows me to download, I almost want to use blizzard's torrent client to download my movies! I always get my patches in about 20 minutes, and they are min. 500mb. My Azareus takes me a couple of days for a 700mb movie!
Actually I think containers are a great idea as you can attach some solar panels on the roof and sides to maximize the solar consumption. I don't know if I have enough computers for it, but definitely I could see containers being used more and more for mobility as well in disaster situations, I know I want one!
How about making extremely BIG gov. funding for people who want to turn their house green and off the grid, not like 20% of the cost, more like 75% of the cost, with a catch that all the extra electricity not used, belongs to the gov. and gets thrown back into the grid.
This would stimulate more people to make the change and allow also more of a competitive market.
I agree, but the problem is that the police (regular) not only don't have a budget for this, but also are as misinformed as the public. They are average joes like you and me who just have a badge and a gun and take risks with their lives on the streets to fight crime.
Put them behind desks they become nothing, web surfing p0rn like the rest of them.... because they are not really tech savy. You need a special ops force for cybercrime dedicated to this sort of thing, which costs lots of money and would not be abel to do just LOCAL , even STATE, they would have to do NATIONAL, this is where the agencies like FBI,CIA,NSA come in. These agencies have budgets and computers for this sort of thing. They don't however have the mandate for them, they prefer catching big fish which will also net them a revenue at the end of the year for keeping their budgets.
You need a big sting operation that will net you a return , where as these scammers usually transfer money out before anything goes down , and even if they are caught, the money is long gone, so no return on investment, per say.
The banks are actually the ones who need to establish a task force, world banks and credit card companies...all working together. They would have the money, and the know how, plus access to what ever info they really need to make a bust, and for them, this actually does give them a return at the end of the year. 4 billion $ revenue for cc fraud per year, I would say that is a small chunk of change if they get to figure out how to close down shops and hack the hackers.
Hopefully someone reads this and passes the idea along!
Please explain to me, how these surches seized "un-allowed" items on the planes, since when am I not allowed to bring on my jewelry or pda, or even cd player on a plane???
It would at least require that Mac creators acknowledge this and at least offer their input as to how I could get xyz done, or hook up using xyz device in stead of....etc. This would show there was thought behind it aside from just removing this for cost efficiency, they thought it would not be missed as there would be alternatives. Example, yes you cant connect mac to mac books through firewire anymore but using Ethernet gigabit, will give you faster bandwidth anyways....so use that technology to connect...
If you read the outline of what the website admin says at the end, spoken like a true agent, or not.....I am not so sure this dude is an agent as the german police would want you to think, maybe just want to discredit him in case he spawns another website with his name attached to it.

Not if they are smart and integrate solar panels into the frey for charging stations that way they can be 100% free

I see, so that must mean that with 10 million users online, I can download that patch for WoW in about .00003 seconds???
Oh no you didn't...

When are they going to make the eye of vecna, or ring of gaxx...
I could really use one of those....

Go figure!
Who knew that space was the best cpu cooling system out there.....I guess all spaceships in the near future will have the best quad cores available...
Wasn't this the plot of Total Recall,
I just want to know who is supposed to be Arnold in this scene, Al Gore?
If i could I would give you +5 karma
What if your always hungry :(
Yes or they had a botnet which countered the police botnet, and so the police actually only brought down a dmz botnet and not the real.

I wonder if playing with major wattage had anything to do with it, sort of like frying your brain from the outside in.
