Actually, CS 101 is data types and algorithms. Earning my CS degree taught me little of input validation.
Funnily enough, in my first CS course in college (COMP 110) the professor made sure we did input validation. Yes, the focus of the course was algorithms, but since most of the assignments involved input he had us implement some simple checking and validation.

I'm sorry, but it had to be said, and just once I wanted to be the one to say it.
I'll go hide in the corner now.

Researchers and cryptologists are still trying to decipher the texts, with no success.
You refer to episodes of Mythbusters by number only, and can immediately correlate episode numbers with relevant experiments/subjects.
Times like this, I wish there was a +1 Geek mod option on/.
Regarding the extensive debate over its m/d/y or d/m/y or d/m/yy or whatever the hell your calendar prefence is:
WHO FETHING CARES?
The entire point of this is that, by one particular format, the next few days are 286, 386, and 486. PERIOD. Yes yes, everyone here is perfectly aware that there were other days that fit, and that these days don't work out in some formats, but for Christ's sake does it matter?
In one format, the upcoming days remind us of CPUs. Can't we just leave it at that?
I once saw a quote on Bash.org along these lines -
Get all the tech-support people in the world to join together and form a kind of union. The union would have one purpose, and one purpose only: Every month, the members all pay a due. The dues go into one large pot. Now, anytime one of the members has to deal with a REALLY obnoxious/annoying (l)user who just doesn't get it, the money in the pot can be used to hire a hitman.
Sounds good, no?
What's the count these days? Are there any non-evil services out there?
Yes, of course there are non-evil services. They're run by honest politicians, (who's favorite food is jumbo shrimp) and they wish you a happy Monday.
This is Slashdot. Regular, un-enhanced yogurt has more culture than us.
Cowards. I am Viodentia!
You expect someone on /. to have passed elementary school?
You must be new here.
Sadly enough, no, you're not. *Sigh* If only they'd lost 200 more, then we'd all be right.
The average (l)user has the intelligence of an amoeba, does that count?
Are they gonna tell me next that http://www.nuklearpower.com/ isn't really about Light Warriors trying to save the world?
At which point Moses, being a hardware guy, blamed it all on the software.
Well, if the RIAA has their way, all of the above.
WORK?!? Be gone, foul blasphemer! You, as a productive member of society, have no place here!

What's this? A Slashdotter that knows girls? Sir, I accuse you of lying.
Why the hell was this modded "Funny"?
Well, we've already got hydrogen-powered rockets http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/science/86c3/, so a water powered car should be easy!

"Linux has a few bad points..." TROLL/Flamebait
Only when you turn mute OFF.
