He's stating that currently to stop drug abuse, the govt is going after all the places that produce it. Stopping the imports to stop the drug problem.
However, when it comes to guns, the govt is taking the opposite approach. Instead of stopping the supply by going after Smith and Wesson et al. they are going after the individual "user" through gun control.
Hence the contradiction in govt tactics, not the poster's views.
I need no pity. I am impressed with what they have accomplished, having done what no other person has ever tried. Truly pioneers. However, that said, I would like to know how much of their feat can be attributed to taking advantage of the jet stream? Aren't you at all a bit curious? I would think that there would have been a portion of flight completed just from gliding.
I'm just a cynical bastard like a lot of these posters here on Slashdot, and I just like to question everything, no matter how a reader may perceive it.
While his feat is impressive, I would like to see him repeat it going the other way around. That way they can see how effective the flight would be against the jet stream, similar to most commercial aircraft would have to go through flying East to West.
I'm not advocating going all "survivor style" in having to produce everything for yourself, but would you not be less reliant on the "GRID" if you were able to provide for yourself.
For instance, if you had solar panels, or a small wind generator, you couldn't completely power your house, but you could keep essential things running like your fridge.
In this situation, unlike electricity and water, computers can be run completely on their own without a grid, as evident by current computer setups. So why move into a GRID?
I'm thinking "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" on this topic. I really don't see any benefit of having a GRID system for home computing unless you're a large corporation wanting to sell online applications by the hour.
Hasn't the blackout taught us to move away from GRID type setups? If people just created their own power the blackout would have affected us less. Could this principle not be used for home computing? Rely on yourself and not on others?
Oh, and the reason for the open coolers? The stores have to be air-conditioned anyway (heat does evil things to food), so it doesn't make much sense to put doors on any of the cases except the frozen products, especially when lazy people object to having to put forth the effort required to continuously open doors.
So what happens when they need to heat the store? Say, like in winter? Seems to be counter productive to heat and cool a store.
Of course the explosion didn't happen 400 years ago.
They are just saying that ever since we began observing large explosions of any sort 400 years ago, THIS particular explosion is the biggest one recorded.
That wasn't a conversation they were having over Yahoo! They were merely "trash talking" over a game of Domninoes.
Come on, where's the common sense? Who's never played a head to head competitive game without yelling out "You can't touch this, Biatch!!", "Who's your daddy? WHO'S your daddy!!!" Illicit affair... bah!
Check out the corporal punishment in places like Singapore. I believe having your ass professionally kicked will deter you from committing the same crime again. It might make you more creative to try something else. But I'm sure you won't make the same mistake twice.
You're not reading him correctly.

They say they are able to store 10GB of data, but can't read it.
How is this any different from deleting, except you are limited to 10GB at a time?
Nice... so you were at least with it up to and including "nail them over the head"...
Excellent, maybe not everyone prefers frying pans as their tool of choice. To each his own.
I can't help but think about Strong Bad's "The System Is Down" song.
Even better idea would be to tax air and water.
How many people can afford not to pay that?

What if we put the cat between two slices of toast?
What? You mean like a cat sandwich?
Mmmmm.... cat sandwich....aargh....
How screwed would we be if we turned our buttered toast into a Mobius strip?
My guess that around Thanksgiving, there will be a huge surplus of turkey's to use.
So cheaper fuel in the fall season?

In that case, you can probably write off Google's gmail, as it requires javascript enabled.

Correction: 6.57x10^5 times
10 light years is really close... Thats like only 3 times the distance form us to the sun.
Considering that it takes 8 mins for light from the sun to reach Earth, I think your calculations are a bit off.
365 days x 24 hours x 60 mins = 525600 mins/year
525600 mins/year x 10 years = 5256000 mins
5256000 mins / 8 mins = 6.57x10^6 times
Therefore 10 light years is actually 6.57x10^6 times the distance from us to the sun.

You're getting the numbers all crossed.

I played Number Munchers, but my math still sucks. What does that say about video games?
Because I played this game, all I want to do is pick up random women and have sex with them.
er... actually, it's a toss up between the video game and my XY genetic make up.
Get me a lawyer, I need to sue someone.
I believe Chris Rock said to make bullets cost around $3000 each. That should curb shootings.
You have to turn it upside down and give it a couple of shakes to clear the screen.
"cherry cans"? I don't know if you know that I know that I'm think you're thinking about "jerry cans".
That would really suck to be taxed for driving out of state then.
Drive you car out to Oregon, or Nevada and California gets bonus taxes if they are only going to check your odometer.
