You are probably a more casual Starcraft gamer, because in my opinion I've loved the beta it's absolutely addicting. I was a hardcore Broodwar player ever since it came out I played on the Korean servers and they have done an amazing job with this game so far. Better than I thought to be honest. What league were you placed in when you played? Currently Im in the top 10 of Platinum 53, and every game whether I loose or win has been extremely fun and enjoyable.

  2. Re:Is StarCraft the right game to use for this? on StarCraft AI Competition Announced · · Score: 1

The meta game for Starcraft has changed dramatically over the pass few years. The game is more of a macro management game now. Rush tactics are barely used in pro-matches and if they are and are properly defended with a proper scout the player rushing has a very little chance of coming back in the game because they are so economically behind. Most games now are based on quick expansions example 12nexus 14cc 12 hatch Starcraft is probably the best game for this as IMO is the most balanced and RTS available on the market. Hopefully the people programming the AI are seasoned players and know how the current meta-game for Starcraft Broodwar is.

Obviously you didn't play the game enough on multi-player to become good at it. This is not just my opinion but the opinion of the hardcore gamers that still play the game religiously to this day. There is a reason why Korea has 3 television stations dedicated to this game and why it is a multi-million dollar industry in Korea. The game has amazing re-playability (multi-player). You can only play single player campaigns for so long until it gets boring. Trust me when I say that the majority of the Starcraft gaming community have NOT been playing single player campaign for 10 years.

  5. Starcraft 2 will not be defined by single player on StarCraft II Single-Player Details Revealed · · Score: 5, Interesting

Starcraft Broodwar was not defined by how good it's single player campaign, it was defined by how balanced the game was in multiplayer mode. Sure Blizzard games usually have really great story lines and awesome cinematics but there is a reason why it has been delayed till 2010. Battle.net. For this game to succeed the multi-player aspect must be up to par with Starcraft Broodwar, Blizzard is currently having difficulties with the latest version of Battle.net and this is why it has been delayed till 2010. This single player stuff is nice to see but it is just a very small portion of what is in store for Starcraft 2.

I understand that you are trying to reach a broader audience but it was the little things like splitting the workers at the beginning and macroing through your unit production buildings manually, turning collision detection off on your (probes, scvs or drones) etc ... that made Starcraft such a good game it was easy to learn and it is near impossible to master, I've been playing since it came out and I'm still learning tricks to help win games.

  10. Blizzard Entertainment on Blizzard's 'Secret Sauce' · · Score: 2, Insightful

I have to agree that Blizzard is one of the greatest game developing companies around today, if not the best. Ive been playing Starcraft since it came out and havent stopped since. South Korea has a huge professional gaming community based on Blizzard games, instead of say football, hockey or basketball people in Korea watch professional gamers play Starcraft or Warcraft 3. Ive seen huge stadiums filled with thousands of people watching two guys playing Starcraft, with lighting effects, fire effects and sound effects going off in the background. They have Starcraft branded merchandise and Im not talking about figurines, im talking food, clothes. Their current season of MSL is sponsored by Pringles and most of the players are sponsored by big name corporations ie (SK Telecom, FILA, Addidas just to name a few). If Blizzard can help create such a community and hlp its economy in such a way they must be doing something right. I believe that it was Warcraft 2 that placed them on the map and helped them develop their next game, which IMHO is the best RTS of all time Starcraft! Blizzard isnt always about pretty graphics like alot of other companies its all about game play!!

Hes gotten his hands on a couple of their video cards for testing and many of them have crashed his computer forcing him to format/reinstall his operating system. Security should be practiced at all levels from development to roll out and installation and through its entire lifetime. PHP has its place for scripting simple websites and making connections to small-intermediate sized databases, but it will never over take Java as a programming language, PHP is a scripting language in my opion. I dont know if this still stands true, but the last version of PHP that I worked with didnt even have namespaces, something that I believe makes maintainability of any application easier another thing only the core modules of PHP are thread safe, which is another thing you need to have in any large scale application. Java excels with threads making them extremely easy to use and has alot of support for it. IMHO PHP wont over take Java, I have yet to see any Banks use PHP for their online banking involving money transactions. PHP has its place for creating small-medium dynamic websites.
