Lifetime as in the lifetime of Oracle as a company? I would have to agree with you, the costs on a promise like that can become a very serious liablility.
I suppose they can always claim that they meant the lifetime of the product, as in, we don't sell it any more.
I've never really understood this issue. Sounds to me like it is a simple greed issue. First, The RSS feeds are a tool to promote your content. Search engines and aggrigators use that to produce customized lists of links to content someone may be interested in. ( Promoting the content of the RSS feeder )
I wonder how the law suits would shake out if let say Google REFUSED to index someones content or RSS feed.
People complain that the aggrigator is making money of their content. I would argue that the aggrigator is making money of their value added by collecting all the sources (rss feeds etc) and organizing them in some customized way.
As long at the aggrigator is keeping the links to the content and not trying to claim it is their content then I think it is a win win for both parties and as someone has noted, if you want to be removed from someones aggrigation I'm sure they would comply with the request and promote someone elses content.
It's not really news that there are security issues in IE 7. Problem is there are security issues in so much these days that it's really just about what has been found so far.
Back to the old text based lynx browser for me. Now, Anyone know where I can get a flash plugin for Lynx?;-)
Pretty soon there won't be anything we do that isn't in a database somewhere to be used by someone who wants to sell us something or influence us in some way. The only problem with this as I can see it is that it will result in the same thing the TV ratings did which is to cause the producers of games/tv to shift the focus from producing something good or innovative to focusing on producing things that were popular in the past. I suppose from a marketing standpoint that might be a good thing but I'd rather see new and interesting games being produced rather than copies of old successful ones.
Tetris version 137 - the ultimate ultimate tetris game.. wheeeeee.;-)
Unless you actually want them to go downhill I presume.
Nature makes very good use of swarm behaviour in all sorts of things, Insects, Birds, fish all use forms of swarm behaviour so I guess it makes sense that our little robot buddies might find a use for it. If nothing else it's an interesting approach.
I would have to agree with you here.
Any business should have the freedom to decide which products they wish to promote and sell, just as every consumer should be permitted to choose which products they wish to buy.
As we all know, video games of any kind are the work of the devil and will make you go blind among other things.;-)
Any kind of Obsessive behaviour is going to have negative results. It doesn't matter if you play online games, or watch TV for 20 hours a day.
Does the same apply if you play nintendo all day? http://www.nickyee.com/daedalus/gateway_addiction. html
Maybe downloading too much music would do the same?
the fate that awaits our own galaxy, which is likely to collide with the (cosmically) nearish Andromeda galaxy in about six billion years time
Intersting stuff.. but when you consider time scales like this what kind of practical applications does this have?
Can anyone explain what knowledge is gained from these pretty pictures?
I think George Orwell may just have been before his time... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thoughtcrime
Next thing you know I'll need a licence before I can hum a tune in my head.
They can have my videoblog when they pry it from my cold dead server.;-)
I find myself wondering if this virus was an accident or was it placed into the production environment by an employee with an axe to grind?
Either way, I'm not sure how you would go about QC'ing for this sort of problem, especially if it was done intentionally.
Perhaps the only solution to all these highly paid lobby groups is to form an anti-Lobby Group lobby.
I can't believe I just said that.
Eck.. One should never search for lobby groups in google. http://www.circinfo.net/anti_circ.htm
All Hail our new Lobby Group overlords
I saw a color tv floating in a tank of this at a trade show years ago, something about a running color tv floating in liquid is just wrong.
But I'm sure It would be much better than water for many many reason.
"Fluorinert FC-77, a specialty fluid from 3M, to cool the laser tube. It is a colorless, odorless liquid (just like water) and if you get some of it on your fingers, it is harmless, just wash your hands with clean water (according to 3M).
Here is the description from 3M web site:
"Heat Transfer Fluids
The wide liquid range of Fluorinert liquid FC-77 (-110C to 97C) makes it ideal for use in automated test equipment (ATE) and other semiconductor process equipment. Its high dielectric strength means it will not damage electronic equipment or semiconductor wafers, chips or packages in the event of a leak or other failure. In addition, FC-77 liquid is chemically stable, nonflammable and practically non-toxic".
1. Easy to copy.
2. People don't really see it as stealing.
Hardware is on the other hand HARD to copy, It has a value the customer can see and it is not easy for him to make a few copies of his great new video card to hand out to his friends.
If there was a xerox machine that could copy a CPU or a video card people would be doing that too.
Humans are basically about getting everything they want as cheap as they can. Most will stop at harming another to do it so they won't walk into EB and shoplift their next video card. (some will but not most)
I would think that would be a problem only if they want to then re-publish the work for their own enrichment in a new forum not previously approved by the copyright holder. The news papers, by getting the freelance authors to let them include it in their database are really just taking ownership of the authors material to do with as they please because it is now 'IN' their database. To me the issue has always been one of what it is used for, not where it is stored.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Forget what games it comes with./ yellow-dog-linux-designed-for-playstation-3-208902 .php
With it running linux I think it may be a nifty way to get a cheap cell platform to play with.
The price may be a bit high for a game console but it's a dirt cheap, screaming fast Cell based platform to have some fun with.

I don't know what the big deal is. MasterCard and Visa cut *ME* off a long long time ago.. ;-)
In truth there are so many payment options now that it probably won't make much difference to them anyway.

Legal... Legal
This is also very true for the leagal system. We need to educate the Judges and the Politicians I think.

Making hardware cheaper will not reduce piracy.

Maybe if we get the carbon to call the oxygen names then the oxygen will just leave all by itself. Voila! Instant carbon. ;-)
You can't create energy, you can only move it from one form to another and almost never at anything like 100% efficency.
