  1. Re:Why should anyone in business care? on Johnny Can So Program · · Score: 1

What? The private sector is saying first, "We want cheap labor from overseas, so there won't be a market for your skills here." Then second they say, "No one is going into technical fields anymore, this is a really big problem."

This is hypocracy at its finest. In the second case they are thinking ahead far enough to realize that trouble is on the way, but in the first case they aren't willing to do what it takes to get there (ie. employ people here).

The big problem is that once the skills leave this country for another, will the programmers there really be clamoring to be managed by American companies, or will they just outsource the last bit (the management) and do it all themselves? I believe that there are a lot of software companies out there that are outsorcing themselves right out of business. Outsourcing the magement at the end of all this is going to be way eaiser than outsourcing the technical work.

I just love seeing stories where business leaders "fret" over the lack of education in science and technology in this country today.

Of course, then they go and layoff large numbers of technical workers and send their jobs to another country. The message is getting through loud and clear to the younger generations in this country. All the while the business leaders are lamenting the education available here they are shouting at the top of their lungs by their businsess practices - "WHY THE HELL ARE YOU GOING INTO SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, WE DON'T HIRE THOSE KIND OF PEOPLE HERE!!!!"

The kids get it. As the one article states programming isn't glamorous like football. But, even more the kids going to college now look at business and see no need for technical people, because they're sending it all away.

Kids are smarter than people think, they see the writing on the wall. Why go to school for 4-5 years only to find a job market with no room for you. So all the best and brightest kids end up going to law school, which is in and of itself a terrifying thought.

So the movies have been getting better. And after the Clone Wars cartoon, I have my hopes up even more for this movie.

Face it. Lucas should have made just ONE prequel, he really didn't have story material for 3.

If you make the decision about what to take literally (i.e., not Genesis 1), you might as well throw out the whole Bible as open to whatever interpretation you see fit (i.e., evolution)

Technically over the ages that decision has been made over and over again. From the interpretation of oral traditions being passed down until they were written down to copying the text by hand to translation to other languages that sometimes did not have the right words to convey the actual thoughts of the original text, to discussions in the church as to which books are official and which are not.

Yes, you can very well conclude that the Bible is open to interpretation and has been ever since it was first written (or even spoken).

The "rights" granted allow for editing of moives, not just filtering content on movies. This could be important for more than just clearplay. We have yet to know what this feature means for fair use recorded content in PVR's. It could mean that the commercial skip code in myth is covered as fair (woohoo). It could mean that you should be allowed to remove the mandatory unskippable previews on DVD, hey they're content too right, what if you don't want to view that content.

There are silver linings here. By saying you can edit the movie, there are a lot of good things that can come of it. So what if it was fueled by people who want to remove sex scenes from movies, this time those people actually expaned YOUR rights as well.

No, what I mean is that NASA wants more money. Thats perfectly acceptable of them and like I said intially this is probably their best angle at getting more money, by talking about elimiating a popular program.

The people in NASA are concerned about their own budgets, so even though its Bush's administration, NASA will (and should, in my opinion) try to get all the money they can.

A move like this opens up the possiblity that some congressman (probably from JPL's district) will possibly try to attach a rider to a bill that will fund the voyager program.

Its an attempt to pull at people's emotions to try to get the extra money. And don't get me wrong its not misleading or untrue that cuts would need to be made, but the programs used to illistrate the debate are always the most popular ones. Just like right here.
