Sounds like a return to the days of commissioned art.
Crowdsourced commissioned art? Sounds like a good plan to me, actually. Kickstarter funds a wide variety of projects (not just art) in a similar manner.
Allegiance might be what you're looking for. It was abandoned by Microsoft a long time ago but a small part of the community kept it alive long enough that the developers noticed and decided to release the source code.
It's a lot closer to Battlefield than EVE, with non-persistent matches making two teams face off. The main problem with it that I've seen is that the community is tiny so there's only one active game at a time and a lot of drama can flare up.
Warhamemr is the choice I understand the least though, I can see why people get addicted to the item hording in World of Warcraft because I did quite a bit of that myself in Diablo 1&2 and I can see why a ranked Arena system is fun. But Warhammer? I played DAOC back in the day and while I had fun it only lasted me two months before I got completely bored with the fact that nothing my faction ever did mattered.
You could use the same reasoning to ask why people play Team Fortress 2 or Counterstrike considering nearly everything that happens is null and void once the map changes. I'll give you a reason: because it's fun.
Honestly, Simutronics deserves its own category for the games it's made. They're the highest quality MUDs and have more features than any MMORPG ever released.
(I still want a true skill-based experience system in a MMORPG. DR has yet to be beat.)
As a long time user of a larger trackball, I actually hate the tiny marble-style thumb trackballs that seem to be prevalent in today's models. I'd much prefer a ball that can be used with the pointer/middle finger, leaving the thumb and pinky to do the majority of the button-mashing. There's no real equivalent to it for consoles (unless you want to hook it up directly to a PS3), but have you considered the Marble Mouse? I use my index and middle fingers to control the trackball and my thumb/ring finger for buttons. The only issue I've ever had with it is the lack of a scroll wheel.
I actually prefer it in FPS games to a normal mouse, because I can make much smaller movements and get the same results. I'm actually halfway decent with the hitscan and one-hit-one-kill types of weapons too, so it can't be that bad.
Oh yeah. It's RedBook audio too, so you could stick it directly in a CD player if you want. One problem I had was that the Gold Edition's soundtrack (and maybe the expansion, I forget) has different castle tracks from the original game, so I was searching around the Internet for several months before I found both sets.
The majority of the rest of the soundtrack comprises of recordings of real music composed in that time period (Industrial Age is Dvorák, Modern Age is John Adams, etc.). Baba Yetu is quite awesome, though.
I think I can safely assume that if bits of the demo dropped to 20FPS with a Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme X6800, 4 Gigs of RAM and an Nvidia 8800GTS, there's really no point in even trying on a midrange machine.
Did you see the settings at which that those benchmarks were taken? Don't set them that high on a midrange machine.
I'm in the middle of the download, but I'll post my own results when I get in (Core 2 Duo E6300, 7600GT).
And unfortunately, graphical MMORPGs still can't even remotely approach the level of detail that MUDs achieved years ago. I want to be able to hack off that goblin's arm and make him drop his sword, which I can then pick up and attack him with.
I've considered switching to the TrackMan Optical from a Marble Mouse (I'd like a scroll wheel) but I'm not sure how they compare for me and $50 is a bit much to try it out. I wish there was a corded version as well, because I'm not fond of cordless mice/keyboards.
On a related note, I'm amazed by how many other Marble Mouse users there are here. I first bought a white two-button one probably about 6 years ago and a silver one 3 years ago and both are still working just fine. It's always amusing when people don't think I can play any FPS games with it and I usually end up winning. Anyone else want to petition Logitech for an updated version with a scroll wheel?
Get a trackball. No more flat surface required! You can even wave it about if you want, but it won't do much. I actually have used one while holding it in the air, though.
(I still want an updated version of the Marble Mouse, Logitech.)
I somewhat agree, but only one term wouldn't be a good idea. For the House, you'd have a revolving door where the incoming representatives largely wouldn't know where to begin. ~10 years (5 terms for House, 2 for Senate) would probably work better.
So, what are the odds that any police officer that pulls you over reads/. in the first place?
How about reading this specific article?
And reading your comment?
And they remember your username and what you said?
And are able to connect that comment to you when they pull you over?
Do you intend on adding your vehicle make, model, and license plate number to your post, as well as the time and location of some minor offense you're going to commit?
Because guy that made the game is a programmer, not a graphic designer.

This movie is what Gene Roddenberry would have done if he had the budget and technology available for it.
9 GB honestly isn't all that much for a MMO. Warhammer Online is over 15 GB and Age of Conan comes in at a whopping 25 GB.
Even my folder for Unreal Tournament 2004 (from the distant past of 5 years ago) is over 9 GB with all of the maps I've downloaded while playing.
Have you ever tried simply turning off the TV, sitting down with your children, and hitting them?

What does a popular rhythm-based video game have to do with a Scandinavian country?

The Internet's cut into my sleeping time on a regular basis. In fact, that's what's happening right now.

No, that would make Second Life.

When I first read the title, I thought it was an immediate dupe of the previous article.

Yup, he did a good job on forgetting the Gold Box games completely.
Um.. because the PS3 came out today and the Wii is coming out Sunday?
Only after several years of beta driving that will be available to 90% of drivers.
