There are two other towers that are within about 1 foot of the IDS tower. I forget the heights, but the Wells Fargo building and S 5th St tower are both about a foot shorter than IDS.
In this case, would it be useful for criminals (or whoever is being tapped) to install real spyware/adware that deletes other spyware/adware, thus getting rid of the gov't-sponsored spyware? I never thought I'd see the day that I would actually WANT to install Gator...
They have to pay $130,000 if the ad is "too commercial"? How is that determined? And isn't a non-profit a non-profit, no matter what kind of ads they run?
Excellent questions that I hope the Ohioans addressed. For #1, I wouldn't think there are too many heavy spammers in OH, but hey, never hurts to clean up the few that there are. I wouldn't think that the destination of the spam would matter, but I'm sure some lawyer will try to convince a judge differently.
For #2, I'm sure it will not affect spammers outside of OH. I'd like to see them try to charge someone in China, and the laughter of the Chinese government in response.
Do you find it interesting/annoying/strange/etc. participating in the geek culture (i.e. being a geek), while at the same time being such a recognisible influence or member of that same culture? For example, say you go to a ST convention. What does it feel like to sort of admire or follow such a phenomenon, but at the same time you are thinking "Yea, I remember when Pat Stewart and I did that scene." I guess it just seems that you might have a different experience than most of us/.ers, in that we are more observers than contributors.
Hope that makes sense. Cheers for responding to the/. community!
Most of us spend hours and hours online every day as it is...now we are supposed to watch a 7 hour documentary about being online too? Trolling on/. would be more productive...
And using basic grammar wouldn't lead you to use the phrase "a normal, intelligent thinking to believe this."
If your conclusion is the case, then why are people buying Linux machines in the first place? If people want to run Windows that badly, why take the extra time to buy a Linux machine instead of just buying a machine with no OS? Also, people are not paying for Linux, they are paying for a PC with Linux installed.
In any case, your point is irrelevant because we are talking about Windows piracy being blamed on Linux, not whether or not people want to run Windows or Linux.
I agree with a reply to the article on CNet, which basically said that the piracy of Windows is Microsoft's problem, not Linux's problem. It's not Linux's problem that it's free, it's not Linux's problem that Windows is being pirated world-wide, and it's not Linux's problem that people are choosing Linux PCs instead of Win machines. This just amounts to FUD, trying to make Linux look like it has some involvement with piracy. It's the people who pirate, not the software.
Exactly. What's the point of buying a Linux machine if you are just going to install pirated Windows? Seems like a wasted extra step. And its not like you are tricking anyone by buying a Linux machine first; if you buy a barebones, no one will know what OS you run anyway.
So how soon will we find out the "Funded by Microsoft" part?
M$ says they are focusing on security, but how does giving advance warning only to subscribers support security? It's the average user who doesn't know how to patch their computer that is at the most risk (and can also propogate the most damage to the rest of us). And the average user won't be a premium customer.
Does it seem like M$ is saying one thing and doing another?
Agreed. I am all for spammers being crimially punished, but this hardly seems like it will make an impact. Spammers won't think twice about dozens of others being arrested, but maybe they'll reconsider after 500? 1000? 5000? We'll have to wait and see how this really affects the amount of spam out there.
It would have to be marketed for special purposes, like the mentioned tail-gating, or camping or something. Otherwise, its much cheaper, and not that much harder, to just keep it in the fridge.
It seems like you can have an entire existance without physically interacting with anyone. Take care of your Virtual Girlfriend, live the life you've always wanted in The Sims, talk to people via IRC/ICQ/AIM/MSN/etc, share thoughts on/..
Do we even need to leave the house to have a social life anymore?
The key word here is "should". I agree, if you put out a high quality product, a DVD with lots of cool features, great video and audio quality, and, above all, a movie that is good enough that people are willing to buy it, then piracy wouldn't be that big of an issue. But try telling this to the MPAA...
A good point, and very true. In this case, though, "female" is a proper term, not much slang. I would think that MS would translate it to a proper term for a female, "mujer" or something like that (if I remember my high school Spanish).

I use POPFile too, and it's been a great filter. Around 99% accuracy for me.
I wonder why they didn't include it in their tests?

So instead of sucking a lot all in one, AOL will suck on a smaller scale 4 different times?

How did they know we were coming?

Fixing broken links, that's a good idea. However, a better one might be to figure out a way to avoid getting slashdotted, as their site will soon be.
Does this mean I can give USB thumb drives to my girlfriend as a gift?
Sounds like a good use of spinach. God forbid I would actually eat it...

Touche, I should have said "Translate from female to bitch." Its a good thing there aren't any women around here to get mad about this.
Going from "female" to "bitch" would be pretty hard to do. I find it hard to believe it could be done unintentionally, if at all, of course.
