They have the public hook, line and sinker because the public is overly uneducated on secure computing practices.
If only Macroshaft or any of the other major companies spent some money in educating the public about simple security measures (`format c:`, Pull out network cable, etc.), then maybe these guys wouldn't have as many people in the sea to phish.
[I]f we thought there was anything wrong with this story factually, professionally, ethically, or legally speaking, we would not have run it in the first place. The reason why we decided to pull it was that when the content, style and the language of the story was perceived as offensive by a group of the readers, a denial-of-service attack was launched against our entire company, interfering with all of our publications and all of our readers. We don't want to be part of this debate, it can happen at websites that encourage it. But, I do apologize to people who were offended by it. I am not interested in offending our readers or in driving them away. I do wish that they had tried to work with me to find a solution before the fanatics out there launched DoS attacks for days even after we pulled the story. Our Web sites remained under constant attack from Monday through Wednesday, for three days. We lost thousands of dollars in revenues during the past three days. We are trying to recover from the biggest cyber attack in history any media company was ever subject to!
DJ Silver is playing (happy) hardcore *LIVE* from Japan, as he does each Wednesday.

Last Wednesday there were 1,054 people tuned into the most listened to 24/7 fully licensed hardcore station in the world. That was 100 more people than the previous highest count.
Let's try and break 1,100 listeners or more today. Together we can surely do it!:D
Thankyou to all those people who have been (and will be) tuning in:)

5 cents is what was suggested and this filly sool said 10. My statement holds because I was discussing the possible increase above 5 cents, not a decrease as that was not the topic.
I would definitely buy tracks at that price, but I'd certainly have privacy/tracking concerns with such a centralised system of distribution.
"Pearlman said that Pfohl misunderstood the idea. Then again, another record-industry type, casually speaking to Pearlman after the talk, had perhaps the most succinct counter suggestion. Why not charge 10 cents, instead of 5, and double the revenue?"
Why not charge $1 and multiply your profits 20 fold?... filly sool!:p
He suggested 5 cents because it's cheap. Increase that and you obviously get a lot less. For example, you could get 20 tracks for a dollar at 5 cents each, but at 10 cents per track you only get 10 of them.
It might not be useful now, but a use for it will be found shortly after they arrive on the market.
I've read comments about boy racers and others about how it's just that these companies will sell it to whoever is thickest.
I surely won't be running out to get one straight away, not because I have no dough, but because there's no need *at the moment*. This is not to say that they *won't ever be needed*.
And I quote Mr. William H. Gates III: "640K ought to be enough for anybody."
Once the technology arrives, uses will be found and then we will all say that 512 MB is not enough on a graphics card.
If he was charged with 'interstate transportation of stolen property', does that mean that he printed out all 92 million screen names and took them in his car across state borders?
If an unpatched and unprotected PC connected to the Internet turns you on as much as a chick walking down SF's Tenderloin after dark in a halter, leather mini & fishnets, I'd be concerned as well.
This has to be one of the best interviews I've read in quite a while. Chuck has certainly done his work and it is easy to see.
The best Q/A I've read in it has to be this:
Chuck Talk: What types of legal and economic reforms do you think can save this nation from bankrupting itself through massive borrowing and continued massive spending? Do you think we have learned any lessons from the Internet bubble, or have investors simply kept throwing cash at their problems? How can we reverse the destructive trends of the current economy toward a building trend that signals a truly healthy economy for all? What does a PhD candidate for economics mind foresee as the changes need to right our ship of state?
Ben Edelman: I'm not a fan of current US fiscal policy. I think I'll leave it at that.
I guess we know where Ben stands!

You have to be fucking joking me. Seriously.. you aren't English, are you?
Do you hail from North Korea or China? Are you just trying to make the English/British look lame by being an AC.
GROW SOME BALLS AND REPLY WITH YOUR FUCKING LOGIN!
Are these the Korean or Chinese hackers we have been told about in the recent geek fables?
So that when people submit articles to Slashdot, they won't be made up entirely of spelling errors..

From my understanding, motherboards can have daughterboards.. but where are the fatherboards?
Illegitimacy seems rife in the computing world! o_O
I formatted and put on a Linux distro. Been using it ever since.
Are there any statistics/studies into how often this happens as opposed to how many people throw their laptops into deep fryers?
I promise to give you all my personal details :)

Because it's still Windows.
Does anyone know what the officially recorded cause of death was?
"[...] Bill Gates reclines on his desk in his office [...]"
:\
So is that how he's amassed his fortune? I must start practicing this and see how far it gets me.
First attempts show that it is hard to use a computer when you are leaning on it... and especially if you are behind the screen
Wouldn't that be like eating from the toilet?
Don't talk about Slashdot like that!
