For the few days before the election hundred s of AdSense publishers were pissed off because AdWords advertisers were buying up every spot possible to show their pro-prop-8 ads all over the AdSense network...they were especially abundant on GLBT web sites, which I personally got a good chuckle out of.
haha, my wife and I are having this disagreement when it comes to talking to our kids about career paths...my wife is totally 100% "gotta go to college" and I am not. She went to college, I didn't...she works 10-12 hours a week as an ECFE teacher (her degree is in teaching) I work 40+ making twice as much per hour...so, well, no, I don't think college is a must...I taught myself to program and have done pretty well.
Wow, that's just a huge assumption...I just want to be able to communicate with somebody without straining ans wasting a bunch of my time. Has nothing at all to do with their culture...
yes, we are indeed very pleased with out gov't in the last year voting for tax hikes for pet projects, voting themselves a 62% raise in "daily spending allowance" (they now get about $100 a day for lunch and parking expenses) and now they take kids to court and fine them for buying violent games...
Yep, we Minnesotans are popping buttons with pride.
Are there not back-end ways to filter out spam that doesn't totally inconvenience the user? Yes, there are, I have done it on numerous web sites with great success by scanning the content being submitted for signs of spam and garbage input.
Granted, every application has different input available to scan, so the methods I have used likely won't work for everybody, but it's done a great job for the applications it does fit in, such as contact forms, site registrations and such things...CAPTCHA is only a greater annoyance for the user...just like long registration processes for software, dongles and similar systems, they serve only to annoy the legitimate users.
It would be nothing to maintain and with contextually sensitive ads they would vbe related to the pages they appear on (in theory) it would be useful and profitable.
Web ads can be contextually and geographically sensitive, depending on other factors it can contain known history/interests of the user as well.
Of course they are better performing...this is not rocket science...
given the crime increase in my area, it's probably safer for me to be online than out someplace...I'm sick of the punks taking over and the cops doing everything they can only to get no support from judges or mayors by not hiring more cops and not throwing people in jail when they should be...
Obviously whats effective and whats not will be different for every web site...I don't smoke crack and I have run MANY different systems on my web site and nothing, so far, has even come CLOSE to the payout I get from AdSense. If I could find a better one, I'd be using it...if someone has one to try that I haven't used yet, I'd LOVE to give it a try.
And don't even bother claiming AdBrite, Bidvertiser, RMX Direct or any of those stupid, worthless programs...
The worst part is for publisher that get their accounts closed for invalid clicks that they didn't do and have no control of. Obviously it's stupid to click on one's own ads, that's a banning waiting to happen, but there have been many cases recently in the AdSense support forum, that some of the more outspoken jackass publishers that actually answer a lot of questions for people have been targeted by people they have helped (and generally offended while doing so) for clickbombing their ads on their sites and results in a banning of their accounts. I watched it happen at least 5 or 6 times in the last month. I used to help at the AdSense support forum, being and active AdSenser myself, but kind of got scared away in fear of myself offending someone with a little honesty and having them clickbomb me.
The sad fact is, AdSense has no real alternative, I have used many systems and none even compare to AdSense in terms of revenue, though many claim to...the AdWords/AdSense system has it's flaws, but it's still the best there is.
The one thing AdSense could do to better their system is do what many ad systems do, have tighter requirements on who they allow to join their network, and approve per domain...not allow one account to add domains at will, but run each domain through an approval process.
They knowingly have their files available in Kazaa...and people think they are not guilty? Ummmmm, maybe I am missing something, but I don't understand that. That in my mind is not comparable to just "leaving your back door open" at all. That is basically being the distributor...and should likely be punished more severely than the people downloading them.
At my site there is a constant barrage of newbie engineers saying "how can I get more volume out of my CD's so it sounds like a store bought one" so, we tell them how to do it, compress, maximize, flatten the frequency spectrum, etc...then two threads later somebody starts a topic about how pissed they are at the over compression and these "loudness wars"...so, well, either stop buying CD's, or, if you have the clought in the industry, stop making them. Compression is a great thing in moderation, but, well the entertainment industry knows nothing of moderation in any area of life.
wasn't it called "Passport" or something like that and people hated it and did their typical "MS wants to control the world" dance...so, now somebody else comes up with the idea and it's a good one? Unless my memory is failing...
I finished an E.P of my own stuff last year. As a 40ish guy in the US that can't sing, I got some GREAT vocals done by a 16 year old kid in Europe and one 20-something in the UK do vocals for me that I had met on my home recording web site. I never would have found these guys otherwise...and my music would have suffered.
The internet gains as much as it looses, it's all how you use it.
I love trackballs, but I hate the thumb controlled ones, I am much more precise and comfortable with index finger controlled ones like Micrsoft's Explorer trackball. I have two, they are years old and both just broke...I don't know if they still make them, but I am going to have to get new ones, I HATE THIS DAMN MOUSE.
The ACLU is doing nothing but continuing to drive the US into the hole it's in by protecting criminal and ignoring the law abiding, hard working, common citizen. I am sick and tired of the battles the ACLU picks.
Simma down now...I mean seriously, everybody whines about crime, violence, over taxing and all that crap, now they do something about it by catching criminals and tax leeches (insurance frauds costs us ALL money and you know it)...and people still bitch.
If you are not a criminal, then shut up and let them do their job.
Some people are just never happy unless their mad...they are called liberals. Always bitching, but never having any viable solutions, just bitching. Somebody tries to do something and they still bitch.
So, one needs to include violent and sexual imagery to be artistic? That got to be one of the most ignorant arguments I've ever heard.

Probably the same people that pay attention to who celebrities in Hollyweird support...
So, if dataming doesn't work, you take away profiling as a legal option, what's law enforcement supposed to do!

now the tricky part, who, may I ask, will be the governing body of truth? Surely somebody from Skull and Bones, right? :-D

that was EXACTLY my thought, of the six times as many, how many are actually valuable posts...

"Some argue that we need subjective gatekeepers as filters."
Ummmmmmmm, why? I would suggest the only people arguing are those subjective gatekeepers, which are completely unnecessary.

I no longer understand what, in fact, fair use is...can I only listen to the CD, in the first CD player that the disk touches, all by myself?
Jeezuz...
...for me to learn to love Gimp...
