A few things about the story...
It starts off linking to the webpages of his "two compadres". The only thing at one website is a link to the TFA, and the other is the homepage of ryandesign.
Ryan, of ryandesign.com, works on MacPorts, and coincidentally has the same name as the "MacBook Software Manager at Apple Computer".
The phone number he gave (512-796-XXXX) is a Sprint exchange from Austin. When he sent the number for the thief to call, it was the same "512-796-XXXX". Did he send his own number for the thief (the one with the phone, to call), or does his friends phone happen to have the same exchange with the same provider in the sane city?
I'm not calling shenanigans on this, I'm just saying... take the story with a grain of salt.
So i'm going to visit my friend at U of C this weekend, and she says, "oh, this was a good week to come, you will get to participate in the scav hunt." obviously, i figure, "hmm, this would be fun for a short while." Then... i see this article. "damn, this is gonna be hard." but compared to Centurix's list up there, this is a walk in the park. sure anyone can find things like "2. DNA From a) Bill Gates b) Linus Torvalds c) Larry Ellison" and "9. A travelling salesman who understands non-deterministic polynomial time" but if i was able to find something like "10. A girlfriend" do you really think i would be writing this at 4:56, come on, at least make it a realistic list.
In a number of unique visits it may be number 10, but that isn't accounting for the same people who visit it. just for web traffic there was an article about how it was #2 or #3. they have to take into account that the "unique" people who view it, probably view it about 150,000,000 times a day.
Since i have a student discount, i'm thankful that AMC just bought out Loews. With AMC i can see a showing for $6.75 instead of $8.75. Is it bad that I see $7 as a good price for a movie. Anyway, my friends and I didn't have much to do so we went to the theater. With out $2 discount we bought tickets for Date Movie . Now i know, this isn't going to be Oscar quality, but i felt since we had so little to do we could laugh at some totally stupid shit for a while. But seriously, what the fuck was that? I understand that the movie is going to be bad and stupid, but seriously, this was beyond belief. For those who aren't familiar, it is from the people who made Scary Movie, and basically makes fun of all the date/romantic comedies from the past short while. The first problem was, half the movie was Meet The Parents/Fockers. Second, most of the time, they didn't even change the dialogue of what was going on, they would just have a tiny twist and hope it was enough. i.e. "I have nipples (whatever his name was), can you milk me?" He then lifts his shirt up and shows he has 8 nipples. Holy shit! Alert the press, Eddie Griffin is half cat! The second problem was, there wasn't a plot. It was a bunch of changed clips, thrown together with softcore porn in the middle. There were other problems too numerous to mention, but here's the kicker. The movie was just over an hour. Thankfully, this let us out in time to sneak into 16 Blocks , which I am sorry will not get the money for our viewing. While most of this post will be lost on the fact that there are already too many comments to read, i did find a list of stuff being remade of recent and upcoming. . Yeah... it's disgusting.
I think this means it is time for a half-jaws, half-free willy environmentalists movie. in the spirit of free willy, michael jackson will obviously be chosen for the theme. i see the theme as being, itself, a cross between "beat it" and "don't stop til you get enough." it's probably not a coincidence that this also seems to be his take on children.
So Sony BMG who sues everyone for copyright infringement was found violating it themselves with not providing GPL documentation, and now MPAA is violating there rules? It seems that the bodies that prosecute violate the rules they are trying to "protect" in bigger ways than anyone, but we only notice it when something else brings it to light.
Fuzzy monsters like Bigfoot shalt no longer wreak havoc on unsuspecting rednecks who would have means of affording such a 16-megapixel camera. It'll be like Oliver Wood meets Bo Duke.
If you wanna see some old white people get their panties in a twist, you should have seen what happened at my school a year and a half back. Years ago, this kid was going a project with the principal to make a computer map of the school, and after the kid spent all his time looking around, drawing blueprints, whatever kids did back in those days, the project was scrapped. So using the maps he had, he released a mod for Duke Nukem 3D that was set in the school. Couple years later, the blubbering vagina squad that is the media found this and went completely fucking nuts. Site is down but here's google's cache http://72.14.207.104/search?q=cache:1Ht9jH_-UAEJ:k dka.com/specialreports/local_story_140181158.html+ allderdeath&hl=en Interviews at school, whiny kids talking about how "they don't feel safe". Going to an inner-city public school, walking through metal detectors every morning, and still hearing about gang violence and kids getting shot, and it's a video game that compromises their sense of safety. It just makes me think "if only some of these people had been a blow job..."

Having traded in a Tech major for Music major, it's good to see that I haven't lost anything in potential employability.
And I just realized that this went into the wrong story. MOVE ALONG... nothing to see here.

either way the "make/(buy) me a sandwich, woman" command will still get me a sandwich.

What is slashdot coming to that there is not one headlining post?

We've known about this for years. We even know the name before google does. It's gonna be Sky Net.
if the work goes out of copyright, someone can just get it for free anyway. they don't need to worry about their DRM'ed copy

Anything anyone needs to know about computers they can get from watching Tron.
