I completely agree with Thomas Jefferson, but the few of us (relative comparison) are the only ones who care, the masses are too busy watching American Idol, Survivor, sensational news to pay attention to any of this anymore. So recently I have really taken to an excerpt from Fahrenheit 451:
Granger: "....When the war's over perhaps we can be of some use in the world."
Montag: "Do you really think they'll listen then?"
Granger: "If not, we'll just have to wait.....But you can't make people listen. They have to come round in their own time, wondering what happened and why the world blew up under them."
So even though we check slashdot everyday and post these stories and our replies. The masses will not listen until they want to. They would rather be tuned out to reality and no one can force them to tune in.
Someone who does something on the internet or in a video game just to cause someone else grief. Team killers, posting goatse randomly, general douchebaggery, etc.
Unfortunately mine has been gathering dust. I bought the Wii as soon as it came out because I was so excited to see what Nintendo was offering and experience it first hand. I enjoyed Wii Sports when the system debuted and I thought Wario was a great game that actually took advantage of the Wii's controls, but that is where my interest started to wane.
When I started to play Twilight Princess and Resident Evil 4, I really could not get past how bad the graphics were compared to games like God of War 2 and especially Gears of War. I know graphics was something Nintendo was not mainly focusing on but RE4 for Wii barely looked as good as it did on GameCube. Not to mention a huge flood of shovelware games that companies put out because they thought any game with Wii controls would be fun, only when a handful (Wii Sports, Wario Ware, Rayman Raving Rabbits) actually used the controls well. After witnessing so many customers come into EB Games and just buy the system not to get anymore games, TFA has some validity. Many people are satisfied with Wii Sports which speaks well for Nintendo because they made a game with such lasting appeal. The big issue is that other software companies have yet to make games that are appealing in their adoption of Wii controls.
For me the big question now is, Nintendo has the third party support, but can we see anyone else besides them that makes a game that take advantage of the controls and uses the additional graphics power in the Wii?
By stating that AOL offers parental controls that should allow a parent to stop a child from illegally downloading music, are you saying AOL should stop children from sending viruses, using trojans and phishing tools?
I thought parental controls were ways for parents to decide what type of content your children have access to (porn, violence, etc) not if they choose to do things illegally. And to take things a step further is it right to allow AOL the possible control of things outside of it's software (not just the browser)? If you're suggesting that it have more control than simple content control, then their software isn't too far away from being a rootkit that allows total control of your computer.
As popular as it is to bash Sony, the PS2s' lasers would go out but the system didn't constantly fail in other areas. I'm on my 4th Xbox 360 ( Two Pros and Two Elites) and my girlfriend is on her 5th one ( All Five Pros). Not only does the system fail in all sorts of categories (mainly overheating and disc scratching), but the first Elite 360 I received, did not even recognize the 120 GB HDD. My current Elite has video connection issues because when you move the wire a certain way with some pressure the screen flickers with green and purple lines.
The worst thing about it is that the 360 has the biggest library of games and a great online service, but there hardware is terribly unreliable.
Both of my parents and step parents are deaf and they all went crazy over the sidekick when they heard about it. My mom and step dad use it to communicate all the time. It is a huge deal within the deaf community because it is simple enough for really anyone to use and it's very portable with pretty good battery life. My mom and definitely my step dad are not very computer literate people but they use their sidekicks with no problems.
I'm not worried. I'm a part time employee at EB (nice 2nd job) and we have yet to get an exclusive game that wasn't a total piece of crap. GameStop will never lock down a big game that is an exclusive because the high selling games (usually made by good game companies) would not just limit themselves to GameStop.
No wonder Activision went with Neversoft (subsidiary) so they could have endless cash-ins on yet another franchise.
Don't get me wrong, I bet the Wii one will be good but look at what Activision has done with a lot of their franchises, specifically Tony Hawk (another Neversoft title).
I'm an employee at EBGames and when we first received our demo unit we were putting in games left and right to see how they looked. One time one of us ended up moving the system to adjust something in the interactive. Later on when we were switching games we noticed the disc was scratched. It has happened a few more times but only when moving the system. I'm not saying not to slighty re-adjust it but don't move it from horizontal to vertical or any big changes to the current position of the system if a game is being played.
Isn't this true of PSX, PS2 and GC?
Not one of these could save games out of the box, so people bought memory cards. I don't remember an overwhelming amount of complaining except in comparision to cartridge games.
I too, was very surprised and slightly annoyed with the $300 model because I didn't know who they were trying to appeal to. Working in EB Games I rarely see a casual gamer talk about the 360, but I now understand what J was saying by making it easier for a new adopter to get into video games by purchasing the Core SKU. The early adopter isn't going to need everything if they are just curious about the system. If they do a little research they will find out the bundle is a better value but it might not fit their needs
Xbox Live! was built on a newer version of Sega Channel that was meant for the Dreamcast.
Sega Channel may not have been mainstream but as a former customer it delivered a great experience.
It had seperate categories for games (New Release, Puzzle, RPG, Action, etc). Not only would it allow you to play games but you could save your progress and it would be kept on their server for a month until the games changed. It also had trailers and playable demos for new games (I remember a demo for Vectorman offered on Sega Channel before anywhere else) and you could even be apart of tournaments (my friend and I were in one for Primal Rage).
It might have been a financial failure but it delivered a great service in a way that was un-thinkable for its time.
I thought it was a lame idea to kill her off just because her relationship with Anakin went sour. But I realized that everything she really cared about had died. The republic which she cared so much for was nonexistant, just an empire in it's place. Plus the fact that Anakin had tried to kill her and changed so drastically.
My only qualms with EB are the pushes to preorder something or buy an additional item.
I have worked at Best Buy and now I currently work at EB. The reason EB does it (Best Buy as well) because helps increase items per transaction (IPT). We are tracked on that as well as Pre-Orders, Game Guarantees (1-year insurance) and other extras. "Pushing" these things is part of the job. I knew a few people that got fired from Best Buy for not "pushing" Magazines and PRPs (Product Replacement Plans).
The other thing I have an issue with is how EB has a habit of opening a new copy of a game to be able to put it on the display shelf.
We do this because we keep the boxes on the shelves so people who don't know about the game can see it on the shelf and see what it's about.
If it's the last copy in stock...even though the goo from the 5 stickers that have been put on the case and the discs that have just been kept in a drawer somewhere...
We put the stickers on the case because it is part of SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) that is set and required by the company. As for the games they are put in sleeves that are filed away with other games. We don't toss them bare into drawers.
Why not use electronic security devices or some other method?
Have you realized that most EB's are pretty tiny? Having to keep a plastic security case for each game and extra cases (for new games), plus whatever other inventory we have, would not leave us any space for the cardboard stands and other items we keep in back. Best Buy uses the plastic security cases and they take up a considerable amount of space, which most EB's don't have.
I've been working there for a few weeks now and everyone in my store is as far from that as possible. We do have our favorite systems but we do not push our personal bias into a sale or when helping a customer out.
The about page on archive.org states they received funding from 'Alexa Internet'http://www.alexa.com/. Is this the same Alexa that is known for spyware applications?
The price of the PSP is ONLY $100 more, but the games cost $10 to $20 more than the DS games (depending on the DS game) and $20 to $30 more than GBA titles (depending on the GBA game). The UMD movies are going to cost in between $20 and $30 dollars and the SanDisk memory cards required to play music cost between $55 (256MB) and $150 (1GB). The cost of buying the PSP and everything needed to take advantage of the PSP's features is well over double the cost of the DS.
What is terribley sad is that Katamari Damacy did not even win in the Most Original Game category. Singster which is more or less a carbon copy of Karaoke Revolution by Konami did.
Looks like the end of the world is coming. Sony ACTUALLY admitted to a design flaw before the US release and they will FIX the problem as opposed to releasing it anyway.
My new 16GB arrived Friday and it is able to connect to my network fine.
I've never fucked a ten, but one night I fucked five two's. That has to count for something.

If you mean the joy of updates everyday and nerfing popular classes. Then yes.
In Gaming News.
Duke Nukem Forever will be better than Half Life 2.

Well hopefully Uncle Orson will come on here and give his perspective on it.
