how about asking them what they want to see? Prepare a short document listing what information you can provide them and in what format, and ask them what they want to see. How often, what detail, etc.
I know, I know. Talking to people, particularly executives, is a daunting task for some in the IT world, but you'd be amazed at how much easier things become when you ask people what they want.
I would never have believed that people in the Linux community would show up at an event just to be rude. I've always heard such glowing praise about the Linux community. They're always there to help the new guy, willing to mentor those learning the "So simple a caveman can do it" operating system and break the monopoly of Microsoft once and for all.
His comments can't be correct. Everyone knows what fine, upstanding individuals the Linux community is.~
Depends on what your definition of 'actively maintained' is. I think my last update was sometime in May, though I keep reminding myself about those updates and additional musings I need to put up.
They should be able to defend themselves against dangers such as smashing into the ground
As well as loganberries, grapes, cherries (both red and black), passion fruit, oranges, apples, grapefruit (whole and segmented), pomegranates, greengages, lemons, plums, mangoes in syrup, bananas and of course, a raspberry.
Sing it brother (or sister)! As one who is currently helping to support an Oracle-based ERP project, expensive doesn't begin to describe how much it's costing us. Original estimated cost: $20 million. Last known official number I heard for current cost: $46 million. I'm sure that number is over $50 million by now.
But wait, there's more. We bought an off-the-shelf portion of their product and of course have to shoe-horn it to do what we want. There are portions of our home-grown process that aren't yet implemented and probably won't be implemented for several more months even though those portions are a critical part of our operations.
But hey, the people who are "managing" the project get to put it on their résumé and act like they know what they're doing, which is all that matters.
an aggressive sales force that would sell ice to eskimos
I'm guessing they had their headphones off (if such are even used),
I happened to hear this morning on CNN that the pilots indicated they had removed their headphones, which is a reason not to hear the airport calling for their attention. They also said they did not see any messages from the home office trying to get their attention but did hear general conversations on the radio.
P.S. Your comment is number 3 on Google if you search for 'Northwest pilots headphones'.
This is about the Mayan calendar but there were/are various religious/wacko groups who believe that the Mayan calendar portends the end of the world in 2012.
Obviously now they'll have to wait another 200+ years to find out.
If you look at the third row from the top, the middle picture, that is the steering system they are talking about. I know it doesn't look like a joystick but the caption says it is of the Toyota FT-EV II, the same one mentioned in the article.
I don't normally reply to ACs, but this one demands it.
It's one thing to say it's no business of the government to say how much someone in the private sector gets paid. It's quite another thing when those same private businesses are being propped up by taxpayer monies because those executives making millions of dollars in pay and bonuses all but bankrupted those businesses.
Then it becomes the government's business because they're the one footing the bill to keep those businesses afloat.
Once those businesses pay back all the money they got, then the executives can resume getting their big bucks. Until then, their pay should be restricted.
If the executives don't like having their pay scrutinized, then they shouldn't have come hat-in-hand begging to be bailed out.
If you insult and mouth off to someone, they can slap you, as hard as they want, as many times as they want, and it's legal.
Modification. They are given five slaps which can be administered at any time for all of eternity (last paragraph). This way you never know when you've insulted them to such a large degree that they'll retaliate. The five slaps are per insult which, depending on how stupid you are, could result in decades worth of slaps!
While the news came out, Comcast has since denied it is in a deal to purchase NBC Universal.
Granted, this is Comcast who is most certainly looking for ways to expand its monopoly and further control what people watch, but for now, there is no deal for them to purchase NBC Universal.
I agree that nuclear would be better. I was merely trying to correct the hyperbole the OP said about ships using "thousands of gallons" per mile. If that were the case, the entire ship would be nothing but a fuel tanker and unable to haul cargo.
Heck I wouldn't have a huge problem if the US Government wanted to own and operate a super-super cargo ship if it ran on Nuclear energy. The amount of oil those ships burn is measured in thousands of gallons per mile.
I know you're trying to make a point about using nuclear energy to power ships rather than burning fuel, but let's not go overboard on the amount of fuel being burned per mile. According to WikiAnswers, if a cargo ship travels at 30 mph (roughly 26 knots), it burns 120 gallons per mile.
Granted, as the second item on that page relates, most container ships burn bunker fuel but the calculation is still the same. Even taking into consideration the size of ultra-large cargo ships, they don't use anywhere near thousands of gallons per mile to move across the water.
we get idiots that don't grasp basic statistics...
Because not all of us have had statistics. I won't be taking my statistics class until next year and that's only because I'm going back to school to add to my degrees.
While I understand the basics of statistics and how they are generated, don't ask me to do any computations.
Then again, some people are simply beyond help when it comes to accepting facts or well established principles.
To be fair, there is that little matter of paying for the invasion and occupation of a foreign country for political purposes.
After all, if you're going to spend a trillion dollars sending troops overseas to nation build, that does tend to put a crimp in the budgets of other projects.
The only difference is that a lot of bugs are obvuous,
Yes, yes they are.
when the code fails to run or runs is an unexpected way, while the bad comments won't stop the code from working, only from being understood.
It took a bit, but your comment is understood.

Either that or a piece of lead traveling ~1400 ft/sec might do the trick.

you've got a straight road to expensive failure.

I see you've read my column.
no Patrick Swayze bad movie moments of private pilots landing the plane at their favorite airstrip causing fun and mayhem but saving lives
Nitpick: it wasn't Patrick Swayze, it was Kurt Russell and the movie was Executive Decision.
Unless you were thinking of another movie.

Ask and you shall receive: picture index.

OR they'll roll down the window to make the call, heating up the car in the process, then run the AC on full blast to level it out afterwards.
Then turn on the blender to make margaritas because they're still hot and now thirsty.

you'll love your PC, does he mean the same love that gynecologists give their patients?
that the Higgs boson is abhorrent to Nature is ridiculous.
Please don't anthropomorphize particles. They don't like when you do that.

A whole $10,0000 you say? That must be crippling to Oracle. Whatever will they do? How will they function with such a huge fine hanging over the head?
If you're going to fine someone, go big or don't bother.

Add in useless bloat like flash, advertising, etc.
Don't install flash, install AdBlock. Problems solved.
Perhaps, but in America it will be called a "Patriotic Artificial Intelligence System (PAIS)."
Correction, it will be called "Patriotic Artificial Intelligence Network (PAIN)".
