AFAIK, Opera for non-PC devices, ie, mobile phones etc., has always had a pricetag. This is how Opera got their start, that's what their business is based on.
The only problem with that is those annoying apps that start at the top of the screen, disregarding that the startbar might be there. I really hate that. I've had my start bar at the top since 95, and had this problem ever since. Always on top or not.
While fine for geeks, I believe you give the average user too much credit. (If you intended your post as a suggestion only for geeks, why bother?)
I suggest a different strategy: make sure Windows firewall is turned on prior to connecting. Period. Do not muck things up with such well-intentioned but poorly-executed crap such as what is on the "personal firewall" market today. Install anti-virus package of choice. Enough.
It's a good thing I wasn't drinking anything when I read that comment. I would've spewed it all over the monitor. Come on, mods, give this guy the two points he's missing. (Ok, maybe it's only so funny to me because I used to work in a call center, that once was down a whole day because a T1 got cut..)
What channels do you watch where they advertise actual products like that? I've only ever seen networks "promoting" their own shows that way. No comments about how shows are products too, please.
The only reason XP is more vulnerable than 98 is that 98 is on the decline and most of the machines running it are shitboxes, so people aren't putting out new attacks and trying to take over Win98 systems. My Win98 got owned several times; I haven't gotten owned on XP yet.
This is probably more due to the user than the OS.
Your idiot boss? Who's more foolish, the fool, or the fool who follows him?
+1 Star Wars reference.
Tell me about it. The reason I'm still using Pegasus instead of a cross-platformer like Thunderbird/Mozilla Mailnews is because of my fixation on keeping my old email. I could solve the problem, Peg can use "unix mbox format" (quoted purposefully) and I'm sure I could import that into Thunderbird, but then I run into the other reason I use Pegasus: Pegasus is just better.
And to this I say, Simple Formula for Strong Passwords. It's great. I'm gradually phasing out my library of old, weak passwords and generating SFSP passwords to replace them. SFSP-generated passwords are easy to remember and strong at the same time. The only problem is most places don't allow special characters such as (,),&,% and such.
Guild Wars, though not an MMORPG, has enemies that will happily target and kill healers with extreme prejudice. WoW just has mobs that are easily fooled by tanks.
Heh, I'm even worse and I suspect I'm not alone--
If it's a road, it's a rOOt (Route 66 == Root 66). If it's my path from A to B (often involving many roads) it's a rOUTe. However when dealing with networks, OSPF is a rOUTing protocol that Cisco rOUTers can use to discover rOUTes.:)
Eh? I let Firefox update itself on my deb box, and it worked fine.
Of course, out of sheer laziness, I had installed it to home. I'm the only one who uses that machine anyway.
I donno, I rather like the WRX...

I can't wait for the Ionic Breeze PC Edition! Available now for only 3 easy payments of 39.99!
In a nutshell, the point is security through obscurity is a good thing. Security by obscurity is no security at all.

And just how many Mr. Fusions did you burn up getting back here? ;)
You deserve some points. Too bad I don't have any. I don't ever want to work in a customer-facing position again if I can avoid it.

Well I think it's just plain purdy.
Except for when you play Warsong Gulch. Then everyone would curse you (opposing team) or love you (your own team). (Speaking of Druids, of course)
SeaMonkey is a Gecko browser. (rv 1.8.x same as Firefox) :(
It's only supported if you change the UA.
What gives, Google?

Come now, my debian box was ready in a mere 20 minutes! :)
You mean you actually put accurate information on the application for it?
I'm sorry, I must be missing something. What's so special about this?

Not so surprising, if you know much about Windows 2000. XP is the same way. It's an NT thing.
At the risk of being way off, I rather found "A bile demon is unhappy because he hasn't been paid." more annoying.

Somebody mod this guy up. Drag and drop is a lot quicker than the equivalent command-line command in most cases.
