The best part? All those online/offsite backup places use...you guessed it, TAPE to backup your backup! There is a reason datacenters invest $350,000 in an automated tape library - and it ain't because tape it outdated...

Have you ever watched (or listening to) any old shows from the 40s and 50s? Do we really want to go back to that type of advertising? No, I would raher have a few 30 second spots instead of going back to the "way it was".

For those that don't know what I am talking about, on some old shows the actors would eb doing the "commercials" right in the middle of the show. So, say someone dropped a pie, the other actor would go "That's no problem with New Floor-SuperShine Cleaner from Spaffco! Why, with Floor-SuperShine Cleaner, it will be clean in a jiffy! Yes, from Spaffco!". Makes 'modern' product placement seem pretty harmless, eh?

I'm sorry, but you missed the NATIVE part in what I said. Sure, that 15in LCD can do 1920x1200 - but it will look like shit. It physically cannot do that resolution, so the electronics takes its 'best-guess' as to what it has to leave out to get a 1920x1200 signal to fit on 1280x800 pixels.

This is common on ALL LCD monitors. LCD monitors have a Native resolution which will give you the best picture. Lower than native, and the monitor need to interpolate to fill the spare pixels. Higher than native, and it needs to drop information.

  11. Re:Anyone done it? on DIY Projector Plans Released · · Score: 0

Of course, 15in LCD screens can not do 1920x1200 Native - so there will be a serious loss in quality with that set-up.

But, what if the maximum would still be 99 cents?

In that case, it would seem to me this would work fine. Popular songs would still be only 99 cents, while lesser-knowns would be maybe 40-50 cents, and some "what band is that??" music would be 25 cents.

Aperture does fill a pretty big hole in the market

What about Portfolio? Extensis Portfolio has been a pretty big player in the professional world of asset management for a while now. It looks to me that it will do everything Aperature will do, without the v1.0 bug or the price. Not to mention for Coporate enviroments, Portfolio has the Server product which adds a workgroup/workflow piece that Aperature doesn't even address.

I would say that Aperature is the Portfolio for home "pro-sumers" (hate that term), but that wouldn't make any sense given the cost difference!

Seriously, if one is to admit that Video Games can teach us (Increased coordination and Social Interactions) and influence society - as this book sugggests - then it is pretty easy to see how someone like him could come to the conclusion that violent video games and media can teach us those traits as well. Influence society in a negative sense.
