It makes sense for Radio to have commercials - it is free and they need a way to support (and make a profit) themselves.
However, both Cable and Sat. television are NOT free (and are actually quite expensive depending on the provider) but they still have commercials. Now, I understand that television programs (or Video, rather) is much more costly to make. With shows like LOST/24/Alias/etc having larger and larger budgets (and sometimes the quality of the show reflects that *cough*24*cough*), I get that it costs more. But still, the revenue generated by commercials is stupendous! Add in what us consumers pay for the privilege (Ha!) to receive Cable/Sat. - and it seems like the providers are really double-dipping.
I'm not calling for 100% free television, but something has to give. Either cut the commericals way back or bring the prices back down to sane levels. Sadly, neither is likely.
So, what happens if Linux/OSX becomes successful (how do you define that anyways) in the desktop OS market? Does that mean Microsoft automatically gets moved into the "Not a Monopoly" pile?
If so, is it really a result of bullshit cases like MS v. Real?
No one sells OS's by themselves to be bundled with computers
Wait, what do RedHat/Linspire/Novell/SUSE/etc do then? Seems to me they make and OS to be solde and bundled with computers...
Just becuase you can get 'free' versions of Linux (which, I argue, are NOT the same as a 'Packaged Product' from any of the above) doesn't change the fact that these companies are selling an OS to be bundled on computers. Hell, even WalMart sells PCs with this 'alternative' OS bundled with it.
Wait, +5 Informative? Sorry to drop the ball on this guy - but he has no clue what he is talking about.
500cd/m2 brightness is pretty nice for an LCD display - since most of the LCD display's on the market right now are 250cd/m2 - 300cd/m2. To get a brightness of 1000cd/m2 you are looking at a Plasma Display, which is useless as a computer monitor (too large generally, burn-in issues, and even higher-resolution Plasma displays make text look like shit).
So, 1000cd/m2 brightness it NOT common in LCD Displays currently.
You see, there is a photo dimetric charge built up with the gaseous core surrounding the ferrite sphere that is Saturn's core. Of course, as wel all know, this induces a strong para-helic cohesive bond between the ferro-flux dense matter which is on a cyclic Herbrunger-Feltz Path throughout the rings.
I have my business card out there with many people for the purpose of snagging equipment that would otherwise get thrown out.
I once received about 30 10GB hard disks from the US Army that were tossed in a collection bin (and someone called me to say they were there) which were not wiped and had a fair bit of info on them. Not talking National Secrets, but info that could have been used to cause problems, none the less.
By far the worst, however, was a batch of 15 PIII computers I recovered from the INS. Not only had they not been wiped, but all programs and files were fuctional. Talking about Social Security numbers, Green Card information, and on and on. It was terrible.
Of course, I do the right thing and both wipe and low-level format these before donating on to charity - but it still amazes me what info is given away.
Both of these cases were 1 year+ after 9/11 too. People don't change.
Epson, Epson, Epson. Seriously, I have had amazing results with all of their scanners.
They are TWAIN compatible, have excellent quality and good software (TWAIN driver interface is nice too). Plus, they have models that aren't too pricey.
As a bonus, the 3170 I have (since disco'ed - but new ones are similar) actually do very well at scanning Negatives/Slides. I have a $2,500 dedicated slide scanner from some years back, and my Epson flatbed give me better quality - something I did NOT expect.
Hope that helps, trust me - you won't be disappointed.

Heh, now it is a gaggle of TR'ers.

I'm just curious, but where did you get your experience with Enermax PSUs from?
Offtopic or not, thanks for that. I hadn't seen that yet, and it looks awesome!
Has there been anymore correspondence?
I'm glad you corrected that, I was just about to make a LEGO noose to Do Myself In...
It is really quite simple.
No, there is a far more sinister reason for my signature. But, that is for another time and another place...

I do all of my drafting and design work in Paint. I'm not kidding.
I learned everything I know about Maoris from Whale Rider and the All Blacks...
Ah, who am I kidding - I would never leave the house with broadband that fast...

*runs off to patent office*
So, you obviously didn't listen to him and put it on there anyways...
Of course, how many /.'ers actually leave BT enabled on their phones/PDAs?
Um, you do have a power line though, right? I mean, since that is what this article is about...
Veal is just young cow, not baby cow, more like adolescent cow.
I lived next to a veal farm for a long time, they don't do this. Have you ever visited a veal farm?
What about free-range veal? In that case, it is just a "young" animal that is killed - otherwise it is free to roam around and eat.
Funniest. Post. Ever.
Oh wait, you didn't list any...
Yeah, because six year old kids are excellent at editing host files and setting up domain-forwarding...
