  4. WMP is not the problem, IE is on PC Makers See Little Reason to Deploy XP N · · Score: 0

Windows comes w/ Windows Media Player, big deal. You don't have to use it.

Windows also comes with IE, which IS the problem, since you are required to have it installed in order for your operating system to even work properly, and to do things like update windows, etc. *try un-installing IE and see what happens...*, but since IE is FLAWED w/ NUMEROUS exploit vulnerabilities, and is pretty much required to run the os properly, this should be the concern of the EU, not WMP (wimp).

The fact that it comes w/ a browser is a given, but the fact that you can't uninstall that browser or choose a different browser during the installation process, should be noted.

Even in most linux distro lamor-install menus, they let you choose from a variety of browsers to use.

Education, along with religion, are a form of brainwash & control, to build a productive work-force society.

I taught myself (almost) everything I know (for work at least), and am doing far better than most kids I know who graduated college.

I never even graduated high school either, that's the one that always pisses people off.

Public Education System for K-12 in Los Angeles is a JOKE! (it was to me at least).

I would have graduated class of 95', but unfortunatly in those days, computers were crap, and the only thing that interested me at the time, was being able to sequence my midi gear (sync'ed w/ all my old analog gear =), using atari+cubase.

My Education Fund: $50/mo for DSL + 1x $800 PC

Years Spent Writting Open Source Code (while contracting as a programmer for various web design companies): 5 years

    Current Job Title: Programmer Analyst

Annual Income: $65k/year (which is still barely enough to get by on, as a single bachelor geek/pimp etc.)

My aunt graduated w/ a PHD in Health Care Administration 4 years ago, and she had always treated me like shit because I never went to school.

Needless to say, she still has yet to get a job in the Health Care industry, and is making 1/2 of what I make annually, but for the 1st time, she can't say shit about me not graduating.

Now I'm no Steve Jobs, and I'm not knocking an education being handed to kids from decent-to-well.off families, but if you can't afford an education, and you are truly driven, you can find a way to succeed.

well, the difference between linux sysadmins and MS sysadmins, is when shit hits the fan, MS sysadmins blame windows, and linux sysadmins can only blame themselves.

We take responsibility for our systems, since we usually build them from scratch.

Windows sysadmins blame Microsoft, because they aren't smart enough to build their own customized system, and are too easy to replace if they take the responsibility.

that's a bit extreme, I don't yell kill kill kill to ms, I yell STFU, RTFM to my clients, who all happen to use windows, but can rarely find the start menu!

I embrace open source products because they give me the freedom to do with what I want, how I want, and without restriction to copyright infringement.

I don't expect everyone else to feel that way, especially my clients, considering they can't even find the start menu in windows.

I only use windows for Audio/Music Production, simply because I'm too much of a cheap-ass to buy a mac. If it weren't for Audio/Music Production, I wouldn't see a need for windows at all, in this day & age (for what I do for a living at least).

From a (anti-VB/.NET/etc) programmer's point of view, windows architecture is flawed, and being restricted to continuously develop in an architecturally flawed environment, gets REALLY OLD, REALLY quick.

I prefer to store all my emails (from multiple accounts, domains, etc) into one centralized database table, using mysql, php, imap, and cron. The project I'm working on, is programmed to scour all of my inboxes (from each account/domain) every 10 minutes, and add new msg's to the database (without duplicating existing msg's). I then have it integrated into 1 centralized web interface, which allows me to delete unwanted msg's, as well as view/compose/reply/fwd/attach/etc. It also has an integrated filtering system, but that's a given. =) It makes my accessing/backing-up my emails a simple task.
