The thing with digital is that your backups of the original data can be made perfect. Especially if the data is retained on something like RAID 5 so a random corruption on one node doesn't erode data. You read it, write it to a new format (in a new format if needs be), verify, and you're off again with another perfect copy of the original. Analogues (all prints) can't do that.
I'm constanty retraining my school's filters, and I think we've finally got enough classic literature parsed into the bayesian that it's accurate. I would much rather be learning than sorting a wave of spam, but such is life.
Surely if people could regulate VoIP as a service, then it is possible to regulate any network traffic? Unless there is an extremely standardised VoIP protocol this is impossible anyway, but apart from that it cannot be regulated because it is just internet traffic.
If my UK Skype connection to a friend in Australia happens to hop through networks in Virginia, is it liable for taxation? I should bloody well hope not.
Agreed to this. Everyone says Windows is hopelessly unstable, but unless you actively try to break it then in newer versions it is difficult to reach a non-recoverable (in software) stage. Our server (W2K3) goes down monthly for patches and maintanance, with about 1% unscheduled downtime, and my desktop machine (XPSP2) will quite happily keep going for a month.
AOL is over here in force, and it's just as bad. And the CDs are pitiful as coasters coz they're so cheap:( make nice curtains and shiny things though.
I believe Skype is already multiplatform and has some use on mobile devices (PocketPC 2003). Combine with Bluetooth and a mobile phone with GPRS, and you've got a really expensive mobile!
Hear hear - this is exactly why I refuse to buy PCs or components unless they're to a modular standard, giving me the room for expansion to new standards as they come along.
Actually, if the big cheque is signed and says the same things as the little cheque, it's still a legally binding document. You can write a cheque on the back of an envelope if you want.
It's not the individual American that's the problem. It's the way that when Americans get into a group they generally become a set of self-centred idiots known as "Congress", "The Senate", or "The US Administration". Recent events have also shown "The US Electoral Roll" to be a part of this group.
Individuals are fine, but the group mind grinds against something in the rest of the world.
Because if the humiliating pictures of you weren't available to the world, then the US marines would still be breaking all kinds of conventions with regards to human rights, since nobody would know they were doing it.
When first playing the game, I found it extremely intuitive and easy to play, with challenges later on. There is, however, what seems like a lot of grind to get your minions, loot and complete certain objectives.
There is also a lot of random, rather bizzare glitches which should have been caught in beta but for some reason weren't (No, they weren't caused by XPSP2). I'm hoping a patch (soon) fixes these and tweaks some balance.
It's a one off cost though, which sadly nobody seems to trust in. The energy required is enough to educate the populus that you don't need a 2KW bar fire in every room to keep warm, you need a decent central heating system and insulation. One heating element can heat a whole house easily that way, at a far lower cost.
Pollution generated, if we did eventually use up all the fossil fuels, would be the same or less in line with basic laws of combusion.
Of course, not saying that this can't happen. If they did have 0% returns then I'd worry about which dissatisfied customers they were 'removing'. Customer service, as shown by parent, is still fairly good though.
Seriously though, more than food, sex, and life itself? I'm quite attached to my life, if you take my food away I won't be best pleased, and sex is far more fun than coffee.
Not all drugs are these terrible, horrible plagues of society. Maybe a nice relative scale will be allowed, with things like caffine at one end and crack cocaine at the other.
Given how much raw energy is wasted every second through poorly insulated homes, inefficient designs, idiots leaving lights on, short commutes and more. If world energy consumption was cut back then you can get yourself another 100 years on fossil fuels.
Not ideal, granted, but it's sure as hell more time to get together a decent proposal for infrastructure (which won't need to carry as much power) and stations (which won't need to generate as much power).
Video games really are responsible for making the tiny majority of people without sufficient grip on reality to not go out and shoot people, go out and shoot people!
How the hell did they get weapons though? It's not like you can walk into a shop and press 'b', and i'm sure that l33t h4x0rz1ng the shopkeeper is gonna get you funny looks and nothing more.
Next day delivery, without fail. I have kitted out hundreds of machines with Crucial sticks and I have *never* heard of one of them falling over in normal usage. Or intensive usage. Or even once when forced into the wrong kind of slot (not my doing, some idiot decided to try putting all his RAM into one machine then complained when both his boxes stopped working)
I was just going to comment on this abysmal lack of any basic editorial skills. Or it could be that to get into the spirit of things the original Japanese manual was translated into English through Korean by a Norwegian Spanish teacher with dyslexia.
Dare I ask how much an Os on these cards will actually be used? Aside from performing on-card authentication procedures which can easily be crammed into less than 1mb, I can't see any use. Of course, it could be that I'm tired and talking out of my arse.
Our school is looking at getting smartcard authentication for entry. How does having 1mb on the card give an advantage over say 64kb?

You like being a sysadmin then?

You mean like the BBC does well worldwide?
:( make nice curtains and shiny things though.

Imagine, being able to talk to someone ... while driving! The future holds such promise!
Evidently not your future. Not for any length of time, anyway.
For the love of God make sure it uses IPv6 first!

JC himself broke quite a few laws of the land at the time, and they're skimmed over in most places now.
I was waiting for him to bust out the trig instead of just boring old pythag. Oh well...

I'm going to take the bait...

THAT's why they should be available.
You mean like... er... oh wait.
Has any launch method failed to explode, disintegrate, spontaniously combust or just not work at least once?

But do you really need an OS for that?
