Oh, yes we should just believe you. The market will magically change, without information about what is a fair deal, about how many stores are out to rip people off. Because it sure worked for all other industries, we all know that you will never get ripped of by a plumber, electrician, landscaper, etc... anymore, before the market has spoken. Or perhaps you are suggesting that people are happy with being drastically overcharged with problems that are incorrectly diagnosed.
Sure these program are sensationised, but they are not complete fiction either. Every computer expert repairer I have met has proven that they know absolutely nothing about computers. They don't know the difference between dual core and dual cpu. They act more like middlemen, who can spout of some nice terms, but do not often make sense.
Sorry, you sound like a real idiot. Somebody wants to pay you money and you think it is ok to say no so many times that it causes an argument? Just because you are cheap and don't feel the need to pay someone money when they have worked hard, but through no fault of their own produced nothing, doesn't mean everybody does. Some people actually feel guilty about wasting your time, and aren't so cheap that they don't want to pay you something back. I see this an awful lot with you feel-good types, actually causes a lot of problems than it solves.
Taking money for work done is being FAIR and HONEST. Try to spin it anyway you want. I guess if you worked on a big project for 6 months and then it got cancelled you would try to argue with the company to take the money back? Is that acceptable?
Treat people reasonably, they are customers, not your friends, so it is not a bad thing to make a profit - this is how our economy works.
Every plane i have ever been on, 10 in the last month, I have left my phone on. Somehow we haven't crashed. Somehow we haven't landed next to the runway rather than on it. Somehow we survived.
Last question: Do you always hate inferior equipment? Why on Earth *hate* it? Ignore it, dismiss it, not buy it, tell your friends it's not a good buy sure. But hate it? Someone has issues.
We don't hate it because it is inferior, or like you say, we would spend an awful lot of our time hating things.
We hate it because it is just a blatant rip-off of a popular item, with no real improvements (all the things you mention have been done before, better), by a company with too much money to waste on crap like this. A company with a couple of mediocre products uses by everyone on the planet due to some illegal business practices. A company which has not produced anything new of exciting in many years, and is just living on the bloat from these 2 products. And then Microsoft use the Zune as an example of how they are innovating.
I see your point, but I still think the word has strong religious connotations for the majority of people. I like Orwell a lot, and have gone on to read most of his books, which were mainly concerned with the horrible conditions of people in the early years. (Down and out in London and Paris, the Clergymans Daughter, Keep the Aspidistras flying, etc...)
Something always annoyed me about that joke, because Chewie does not live on endor. He visited it for a while at the end of Jedi, but why do they say that he ever lived there? It does not make sense...
Yes, how insightful of you. In some areas choice overload is not a problem. The problem is that it is a problem in a lot of areas. You see this in the fact that some restaurants are found everywhere, no matter the fact that they serve the worst food. (McDonalds, Burger King, etc...) This is because people don't always like lots of choices, not because they are superior in anyway.
Wow, what the hell are you talking about, you have just made up a bunch of lies, and somehow got voted up.
One of the reasons that the ipod was so successful was tying it in with itunes, which is pretty handicapped if it didn't sell songs, which they couldn't do without adding DRM to keep the RIAA happy. They didn't have any choice, if they wanted the ipod to be a success. And the ipods success doesn't guarantee anything, especially no the iphone which is a very different device. Once again, tying it to a carrier was essential, they had no choice, because of the extra functionality that the iphone provides.
The simple fact is they can't choose to be a huge supporter of open source, if that compromises their popularity. The will have to answer to their shareholders if they suspected they were not doing the best they could, and would face all kinds of penalties.
Great point, I guess Microsoft is making the same mistake as they have made with their current Office Suite, and we all know how that backfired on them. When will they learn.
Mate, most people don't have a Linux machine at home. This is not to stop all the Linux people from using Googles Word, it is to stop the majority from moving to Googles word.
I know you are trying to be funny, but how can google index a site without collapsing its wave function? That would go against all quantum theory, wouldn't it?
This what people fear, the government having this nanny state mentality. Where you are not doing something on the approved list (watching tv, eating, working), so you have to be shut down. The Government isn't there to approve of disapprove of what you do, until you start breaking the law.
To be fair it takes a while for these changes to filter through the system. If I buy a 1000 Nanos at last weeks price, I can't suddenly offer you this weeks price, can I, until I have sold all the machines I bought last week.

Sun gets bad press for developing free software...
Tough crowd.
Yes, very confusing. It is almost as if we are made up of a range of distinct individuals, each with our own opinion, that sometimes allies with others and sometimes doesn't, rather than an amorphious blob with only one opinion.
Yes, exactly. Maybe you haven't realised this yet, but your presentation is not for to fool around with as many effects as possible. It is for you to get your point across to an audience. Transitions are so distracting, that they are worthless. Maybe you should read some style guidelines for creating presentations!
Just show the damn slide - If your audience is so stupid that they need you to hide parts of it for a few seconds then you are already wasting your time.
I agree with you, but that may simply be due to a certain bias on my part. The simple fact is that society is always changing, it was different in your day, and your parents, and your grand parents. It changes for the younger generation, who have no emotional ties to the past, and want a better way of doing things.
Google realized this early, and bought off a great amount of geek awe by using Linux as the basis for its computing grid.
You are being ridiculous. Goolge used Linux on their grid not to impress the meagre geek community. Saying so is moronic and insulting to geeks and to Linux. They did it because Linux is the best operating system for them. If you think anything else you are being very stupid.
Disclaimer: I am an AMD fanboi.
Ah, I see the problem. Fanboi means that you enjoy something without actually thinking about it, or it actually being any good. I prefer a much more reasoned approach. I support AMD because we have seen what Intel (and all monopolies) produce without it. Competition is necessary.
Sure, you have a point. But I didn't start rooting through his trash, following him around, or trying to hack into his account for evidence. That is the difference. It is ok to have crazy opinions about people, but don't let them affect the way you treat people, or the things you do.

If you are serious, and you should be. You should look up some of the comments that John Edwards has made about banning lobbyists in Washington.
Yeah, I knew Richard Dawkins was somehow to blame. I guess this UI evolved into this stupid mess somehow.
Orwell was a prophet
Wow, what an insult to Orwell. Why do you try to tie his genius and foresight with religious overtones.
Who the fuck needs a dishwasher? And even worse, who REALLY needs one.

Your comments about IBM are just as clueless.
YOu seem to live in a bit of a dream world.

Sure, I recommend the T42...the T42p being the best. The T43 had some strange design decisions, that made it have decreased battery life.
I understand what you are asking for, but I have a nice business dell for work, and it still doesn't compare to an Thinkpad... they were the best.

What is this network you speak of? And storage, I am guessing you mean cupboard space?
To be fair it takes a while for these changes to filter through the system. If I buy a 1000 Nanos at last weeks price, I can't suddenly offer you this weeks price, can I, until I have sold all the machines I bought last week.
Yeah, one of the reasons I don't have net acccess at home.
The other being that I try to minimise my exposure to companies in the UK, since they are all run by a bunch of thieving and incompetent fools.
So who do you think need the excuse more? The correct etiquette in these situations is just to politely ignore each other.
