It makes sense though. Touch football is scary. But a broken nose or a broken arm after a girl gets nailed and hits the concrete is okay because there's an adult there to supervise.
Right?
I'm planning on rerolling a Horde Warlock (likely Blood Elf for the AoE silence) and the new affliction talents make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. At this point, I'm thinking of 45/5/11. Having Corruption, Curse of Agony and Unstable Affliction will be great for PvE and just throwing multiple DoT's on every player I see in PvP. Sure, warlocks with Ruin/Conflag will probably do a little better in PvP, but being able to throw 3 DoTs on every enemy I see will be quite exceptional.
I will be the first to admit that Fable wasn't the game it was touted to be. But, if one takes the game solely for what was in it, and ignore the hype, I thought it was rather good. It may not have had the best main quest, or have been the longest game, but it had character. That was a game where I could sit down for an hour, pillage towns, have sex with wives and generally just cause general mayhem and have fun with it. It was the statistics that kept track of your farthest chicken punt, how many beers you'd had, how many civilians you'd killed or even your sexual orientation that made the game unique.
The questing in that game was pretty much garbage, but I could spend hours in that game just goofing around. The fact that I could play for an hour or two, and not get bored with such a simple combat system says a lot about the game. It had some style and a sense of humor that's not present in a lot of other games.
It may not be the best game ever, far from it, but I think it deserves more credit than it gets.
I didn't mean to imply that if we can't make the shuttle 100% safe, that we shouldn't launch it. Obviously something unforseen can go wrong with the shuttle, and that's impossible to avoid. It's launching when we have prior knowledge of something that could happen which would put the crew in danger that bothers me.
Reasonable or not, if it's not safe, I don't think we should be sending them up. Even if it's a low probability that foam will cause damage or put the shuttle at risk on re-entry, NASA is still taking risks with these astronauts' lives that I don't think they should be taking.
Two people who are obviously very high up on the pecking order around there say, "No-go," and and yet it's still decided the shuttle is going to launch. Is it just me, or are we asking for another disaster?
Coming from a school where a student attacked my calculus teacher and another student with a bat, and received 3 days suspension with no criminal charges, I'm not sure which school is more incompetent. Especially after I got a week's suspension and 2 weeks athletic suspension about a month earlier for drinking at prom. Either way, while I certainly think this kid was an idiot to display such a thing, I don't think it deserves the punishment he got. Maybe a few days suspension and some counciling, as it wasn't actually a death threat.
What I think bothers me most about this case, though, is the increasing willingness by people to use the First Amendment as a rock to hide behind, when it is most certainly not that. The First Amendment gives you the right to say whatever you want. It doesn't give you immunity should you say something you're not supposed to. I can certainly slander someone all I want and say they eat babies and rape women, but that doesn't mean I can use the First Amendment and claim invulnerability when they try to come after me. It's obvious that this idea needs to be reinforced with this kid and his parents, as well as countless others, I'm sure.
The First Amendment is about having the freedom to say whatever your heart desires. But if it's slander, libel or anything else in that vein, it doesn't give you the right to get away with it.
Re-importing it as 160 or 192, I really have no problems with it. But then, the music I listen to (industrial) is so static-filled and coarse anyway, that maybe I just can't tell.
... to call it DRM. It's pretty simple to get around, and it was obviously meant to be that way. Any time I buy things from the iTunes Store, I back it up to a CD for two reasons. One, so I have a back-up, and two, so I can use it in my car. Once you have it on a CD, you reimport it to your HD and, voila. You've set the music free. It's not only inexpensive, but also prudent. I'm sure lots of people know this, but it's obvious that some still don't and the bad press that results from it is unfortunate for Apple.
The article claims the X1 is second only to the Bugatti Veyron in its 0-60 time, being half a second slower than the Bugatti. Firstly, the Bugatti clears 60 in 2.9, meaning the X1 does it in 3.4. I can think of a handful of cars which can hit 60 much faster than 3.4.
One also has to consider the fact that the X1 has a computerized traction system, where as the Porsche either does not, or did not have it turned on (I can't remember if it has one).
Furthermore if you look at the X1, it's obviously a light car. The Bugatti weighs just around 4000 lbs and the Ferrari Spyder and Carrera GT weigh in at about 3300, if I recall correctly.
The article's writer really should have done a better job of quantifying the thing. Basically he's saying, "An extremely light-weight car with a traction system, which obviously would not meet US safety requirements, is trouncing safer, regulation-meeting, heavier and more attractive cars that can drive much farther than 100 miles and which don't have pathetic traction controls."
I'm actually surprised that Stanford is only $31,000. I go to a small private college in New London, CT called, simply enough, Connecticut College and the tuition is somewhere around $44k. It's generally regarded as a very good school, and from my experience, the faculty is extremely competent, if not brilliant in some cases. But a small school of 1,800 (with no football team- CC Football, undefeated since 1911!) that is often mistaken for UCONN (wait, you said you go to UCONN right?) certainly does not carry the prestige of Stanford. Which is why I'm extremely surprised to learn that the tuition here at my school is so much higher.
Heck, it can't even spell or define "erudition", much less achieve it.
It may indeed be the case that some people cannot spell their way out of a corporeal paper bag. However, I for one, am at least erudite enough to know that those pesky commas go inside the quotation marks.
After spending some time in a German history class, I'm going to dare to make the tenuous analogy. People hack Xboxes to install Linux for the same reason the Nazis built Auschwitz. They didn't have to, it wasn't necessary for the Final Solution. But they did it simply because they could. It was a demonstration of technological prowess.
Not that I'm saying the guys putting Linux on Xboxes are out for world domination or anything. That's just silly...
While he notes in the comments section that iTunes is the best of the worst, he admits to using third-party tools to remove the DRM from iTunes tracks.
Or, you know, you could just burn it to a CD, unless you don't plan on listening to it in a car or backing it up.
All this means is that apple is overcharging for its products.
Overcharging? No. More akin to getting what you pay for. A quality product that does it with style. To me, aside from the fact that I just vastly prefer OS X to Windows for a plethora of reasons, Apple just knows how to make things look good. I look at my friends' laptops here at school, and the various Dells or Sony VAIOs are just plain ugly. I think the price of my 15" Powerbook is perfectly justified.
Firstly, it may be a living organism. But at 2 weeks or 3 weeks, certainly not cognizant. Further more, it's not so much taking the life of a 'child' (I wouldn't call a bundle of goop after a couple weeks a child), but preserving the life style of the mother. For people who accidentally conceive, and have no wish to have a child, who are not ready to have a child- say a college student- a child would be catastrophic. Certainly the mother's livelihood takes precedence over a bundle of goop. I can't see how you would argue that an abortion is a worse outcome than a mother being forced to have a child she doesn't want and has no interest caring for.
Secondly- pull your head out of your ass and realize that people can accidentally conceive while using protection. It's not foolproof.
Thirdly- go back to school and learn you some gooder words:
Abortion is LEGAL GENOCIDE. Simple as that.
"genocide- Noun. The deliberate killing of a large group of people, esp. those of a particular ethnic group or nation."
Last time I checked, "babies" can't be classified as a nation or ethnic group.
Lastly- you can say "Abortion is legal ______ (I would say infanticide, but that definition doesn't really fit either)," but the fact is that it is legal. So, neener neener neener.
Please, come back when you have some sensical arguments and aren't typing while slobering over a Bible.

Despite some gameplay frustrations, Black and White 2 is a solid experience. Let's try a parallel: "Despite some graphic design frustrations, Adobe Photoshop is a solid experience."
I'd say any game is going to have gameplay frustrations. Gameplay bugs might be better suited to what you're saying. If I keep dying in a FPS because I suck, that's a gameplay frustration. Certainly not a reason for halting the printing of the game.
I guess the word "faceplant" no longer solely refers to me tripping while going upstairs/while going downstairs/walking outside/walking around in my dorm room.

Flaming vitriol, now complete with proper spelling and grammar!

That's some fearless Mighty Mouse you've got there. Sounds more like it just deadens their responses in general rather than makes them fearless.

Yes, and Heaven forbid I state how I feel too.
"You're as stupid as the people who criticize anything other than cancer/aids research."
I hardly think encouraging research rather than supporting frivolous wagers puts me in that category.
